I almost forgot, in addition to the new trailer I posted earlier, id Software passed along an uncut 6-minute direct feed, 1920x1080, 60 FPS, 2.1GB PC gameplay video to the folks at NVIDIA so they can share it with you. If this video looks familar, it's because it is just a higher resolution version of the video Kyle shared with you guys over the weekend.

Apparently this was done on a Titan X, not a 1080:

"“We were thrilled with the response to the videos that some in the audience captured and posted, but we also know you'd like to see high-res, full-screen gameplay. We weren't capturing live, (and accidentally left our GTX 1080 at the event when packing up - argh!), but we came back and captured this re-play of the demo. This gameplay is from a PC running Vulkan on a Titan X at 120 FOV - with the player's personal upgrades and rune perks set for advanced speed and movement capabilities. Enjoy the video and we can't wait to have YOU play this Friday.”

The video that Steve linked from us is 1080 with the framerate unlocked. Recorded on my phone but turned out pretty damn good.

god damn, a bit fast for doom, more quakey, but real level design returns...finally

Moves way too fast for a Doom game. Seems like the devs weren't sure which to make; A Doom game or a Quake game, seems they settled for a hybrid.

Which kind of makes me wonder if the single player is going to be all that spectacular. One of the best things Doom 3 allowed the player to do was to rest, or let your imagination take hold and wonder what was around the next corner or through the next door or enjoy / fear your surrounds. Honestly it looks more like a Tech Demo than anything, very cleanly textured with an abundance of lighting & glowy things.

Seems that's not the case with the new one. Will this be an example of the brightest flame burning quickest? Or Will the Tortoise continue to beat the Hair?

Funny, I remember certain levels in Doom 2 (outdoor city maps) that had so many baddies, you were toast if you didn't strafe and circle at those speeds. The sheer amount of enemies demanded you constantly move and dip. Granted, jumping and ledge grab add a new dimension, but the speed remains in many areas.
Perhaps you played on "Hey, not too rough" or below? /joke

Yeah, DOOM was 20% atmosphere 80% endless demons. Remember the Hell levels of DOOM 2 where you turn a corner and there was something like 20-30 pinkies immediately agro on you? Or the room with 15 hellknights and a cyberdemon?

Chances are one 1080 will probably run it at ~50 FPS. if the game was running at 200FPS at 1080p, 4K requires 4x the shader throughput.

Yep so , multiply whatever the Titan X runs it at X 5..... :p

Pretty smooth but I agree that was way too fast for Doom. Seemed more Quake-ish. You know they'll take this engine and remake Quake next. Recycle, re-use, repeat.

That game looked pretty dang awesome. Very awesome to watch but also intimidating due to the speed of the game.

It's been so long ago but what I remember of Doom playing back in the '90s was hordes of mobs and wide open areas. This looks nothing like it but more of a rehash of Doom 3 BFG but with lighting enabled.

That was pretty rad.

I feel like part of the hectic pace was the player, I probably would have looked around a little more during some of the parts where he was just cruising to the next part.

hence the fast speed and movement. nobody else catch that?

what

you ran fast as fuck in doom, like literally 50mph fast.

LOL. I used to watch speedruns of the game and get dizzy! Heck, I still enjoy watching Quake done Quick with a Vengeance if I have 14 minutes to burn.

2.1 gig 6 min video? UGH! I thought the 45 gig download for the game was bad. My internet leaves some to be desired though.
That is a pretty large file for just 6 minutes. I use Shadowplay to record at 1080p and 60fps and the filesize is much smaller but my bitrate is set to 10 Mbps. 45GB...the downloads for games these days are enormous.

Yup. You moved unbelievably fast in Doom.. Faster than you could in any of the Quake games. People that think this moves too fast for a Doom game should replay the original.

Yeah but the abstract nature of the levels made the movement speed seem normal. The only time you really felt like you were flying is when you raced past a bunch of bad guys. Overall nobody characterized the game as "fast" at the time, it seemed just right. However Doom4 tries to replicate realistic areas to scale, so now the movement speed seems all jacked up. I suspect this is largely an attempt to cater to the "twitch shooter" crowd since they know that is supposedly part of their audience. Too bad they already screwed the pooch with a class system and weapon loadouts. So basically you get a crippled twitch shooter.

I've been playing them all week; since I was a teenager when they were first out I remember using codes - this time I'm not and damn, its hard!

Looks very good. But for me, i would rather play in VR, but im not sure moving that fast is a good idea on a full stomach. :)
I guess im just not exited to play games on a flat screen anymore unless its RTS, but that might change.
Just my opinion though.

I played the multiplayer beta and the pacing seems right. The original Doom was fast paced. This may feel faster because the player has full control to look around vs the original that was locked in on the vertical plane (in other words you could not look up and down, only side to side).
Doom 3 was much slower, I honestly did not play all the way through it. There were other games that had my attention at the time and I never went back to it.

So I'll echo the same sentiments I had waaay back when the first alpha footage of the game was released:

Seriously? This is Doom 4? It literally looks like an expansion pack for Doom 3. Remember in Doom 3 how everything was shiny and looked 'wet'? Same shit here. I see very little graphical innovation and certainly nothing that would even begin to reflect over TEN YEARS of advances in 3D graphics. The new Geforce 1080 can run it at 60FPS? Well no shit! Given the amazingly mediocre graphics the Geforce GTX 280 in my backup rig ought to run it at 60FPS.

With that being said will I buy it? Yup.... as soon as it hits the 75% off sales on one of the bundle sites... Anyone want to start a betting pool on how long that will take? I'm betting on less than a year. :D
