[H]OT DEAL: Acer Recertified Monitors Back In Stock (X34 Predator $730, XR341CK $600 and more)

What is the general consensus on the XB270HU? What would be the advantage of getting the 271 over the 270? Just curious because the 270 seems to have everything I was looking for: 1440p, IPS, 144hz refresh (anything over 60 really). What is the difference? I ask because I found the 270 refurbished from a major retailer for $400, and I'm just about to pull the trigger. They seem pretty much identical, both have G-sync plus everything I listed, only thing I see advertised different is the 271 can go up to 165hz. Is that it?

Just curious cause I have a hard time justifying at least $115 difference (if this deal was still open), or as it sits now, more like $2-300 more. Am I missing something?

Also any first impressions from anyone who did get the 270 refurbed would be great. Thanks.

I use to have the 270 and now have the 271 as refurb

The main difference is the ability to 165hz OC and also the aesthetics. The 270 has a somewhat ugly plastic piano black stand and frame, whereas the 271 cleans all that up with matte black. The stand IMO looks better on the 271, but some will disagree as it looks like a 16 year old boy racer. Other than the two, there really isn't a difference. 270 is still a great monitor at 144hz and Gsync. Most people say they can't see a difference between 165 and 144.

I just got my XB270HU in and its solid. I like the OSD on the XB270HU over my XB271's but other then that the XB270HU is more subdued in look. You won't be disappointed on what ever you buy. Now I am waiting on another 271 and the RMA on the damaged one I was sent.

At first when mine shipped I had no tracking information but roughly 2 hours after it said it shipped i got an email with the FEDEX ground tracking.

Sigh, still no tracking info. I guess it's going to be a waiting game now.

X34 back in stock at both the ebay store and the acer recertified store but they want $999.99 for them.

I just went ahead and ordered directly from the Acer website. They don't charge cali tax unlike the ebay store. I save about $30 versus buying from the Ebay store.

Let's see how many monitors I go thru before I get a golden one, or I tap out :)

i thought the 271 had a superior panel mounting bracket or something that reduced chances for backlight bleed?

I received my Acer 28 inch 4k from the eBay store, shipping was quick, I believe the reason it was returned previously was due too a bent tab on the stand, I bent it back with pliars, its good to go. The panel is 100% perfect.

Just received my XB271 after it's 5 day journey from Texas to Ohio.

As per usual in the thread, piss poor packaging. screen was in a bag that was sandwiched between cardboard filler. I can see how it was supposed to work but the filler structure was entirely collapsed.

BUT, NO CRACKED SCREEN. Haven't had the time to check out Backlight bleed/dead pixels yet. But the biggest worry is out of the way.

Mine is sitting on my porch at home. Making the wife leave work early since it's going to rain.

Well, mine is going back. Pretty blb on the left side and a bunch of dead pixels.

I am looking at the Acer website and it says the following for Refurbished monitors

14 Day Refund - No Exchanges Accepted

So no exchanges then? Just straight up return, then purchase another one separately if you want to play monitor musical chairs?

That's the plan. This is going to be a pain in the ass to shop back though. The box is pretty huge.

They should issue you a label for defects. They did for mine and refunded me right after FedEx showed they picked it up. I've worked with Andrea and Melissa there and I think they know me now since I have ordered about 6 monitors.

I guess something must have gone wrong when they were cross shipping monitors a month ago. I am guessing the packaging hadn't been solved during that causing a ton of loss.

Did you call the toll free number or use the e-mail service?

Email and called to follow up on my email I had sent over the weekend. I actually was given pretty prompt service through both channels.

From what I know, the monitor will be fine at 144hz all the time. I heard the GPU might ramp up and down due to the high refresh rate though. Nvidia supposedly fixed this recently?

They re-broke it in the last update I did. I'm running 120Hz on my desktop to avoid it clocking up for no reason.

I did receive my second XB271HU today. I honestly thought I hit the jackpot because the monitor is nearly perfect. No exessive bleeding and theres only ONE dead pixel on the very edge lower left corner. Doesn't bother me at all. But what bothers me is the monitor has something loose inside the chassis. It's making me real nervous that something internal broke and it can cause problems down the road. It's not like a huge ball of marbles rolling around in there. The sound is more like a loose piece of plastic rattling inside the chassis. But I'm just very nervous about keeping it because the shipping box Acer uses is ATROCIOUS. Who knows what kind of damage this monitor suffered during shipping.

I honestly wouldn't worry about it. If it were a mechanical piece of equipment with moving parts, or something mobile then yeah it may be a cause for concern, but on a monitor with no moving parts that's just sitting on the desk, I wouldn't even worry. Especially considering how hard it is to find one of these refurbs that actually works.

Just received another XB1 and it came flawless this time. Packaging also held up nicely on its journey with no crush or collapse on any of the box components.

Has the X34 ever come down in price to $729 after they raised it to $999?

As far as their ebay store goes, only once, april 28th was the last time it was that low. everything since has been 999. As for acerrecertified.com, i know i saw it once for $750 on may 6th.

Ok I guess I'll keep an eye out. I'm really interested in an Acer direct deal than an EBAY deal. The reason is because Acer direct doesn't charge tax and disposal fee. So an X34 for $750 shipped would be perfect. I would snatch one up so quick, and pray that it doesn't have defects! lol

For those of you who returned multiple monitors, did Acer ever give you crap? Or do they give you a return label no questions asked?

I'm about to go on my 3rd and 4th XB271HU. At this rate I'll be going 5th and 6th soon.

just ordered an XB271HU yesterday, couldnt resist for that price. fingers crossed, will report in later, hopefully i will receive it next week. i think i will do 2 tries, don't want to go overboard, shipping has to expensive for them.
edit: my 1st post :D

X34 doesn't seem like its moving off the $999 price.....

So $999 for a refurb -vs-$1217 brand new?

Yup, there is no reason to buy refurbish at that price if you can buy new for about +$200 on top of the $999 and get Full warranty and better chances of getting a Defect free panel.

XR341CK
0 (MISSED YOUR CHANCE) stock in the ebay store. These can have a Square trade warranty purchased also via ebay.
Earn $11.80 in Ebay bucks + up to 5% Ebates cashback.
2 year square trade warranty $48 http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Year-SquareTrade-Warranty-Electronics-500-600-/280991474037?hash=item416c65a175:g:VRwAAOxyBvZTR~eC They don't have a 2+ so 2 year is the max you can get through the ebay store and you can't buy direct from ST for ebay refurb items.

I would get one myself but got tired of waiting for them to list again on ebay so I picked up a Dell U3415W with full 3 year warranty instead for $580.

So in other words, Acer doesn't even check their returns and resells as refurbished. Nice.

YES!

I bought one,a "recertified" return,it arrived with a cracked screen and 5 dead pixels, crack not as bad as the above example, but still. Box was near mint. Still shocked they had the balls to call it 're certified'

Someone will probably end up with the XR341CK I just sent back. It had a bunch of dead pixels, dust under the screen and some pretty bad blb.

Can we all please stop posting squretrade warranties? They wont cover a refurb monitor, no matter where you buy it from. I contacted them directly and got an answer straight from them.

Acer offers their own extended warranty.
Here is the link, this was even in the signature part of the Acer customer service's response.

Protect Options

It's a bit pricey though, $159.99 for a 2 year or $109.99 for a 1 year for my X34. I think I will roll the dice on mine.

Squaretrade will not cover this monitor and apparently now any refurbished item. Mastercard and Visa wont give an extended warranty on refurb items either. If you buy a squaretrade warranty and you need service, they will deny you and just refund you the money you paid for the warranty. Worst case, you buy this warranty, never use it and wasted your money on something that you could never collect on anyways.

Incorrect! Plain as day doesn't matter what they tell you over the phone it's in writing. It clearly states: "Covers new, refurbished and used items - even if there's no USA manufacturer's warranty on your item" This is only for items purchased on ebay though and you have to purchase the extended electronics warranty for the proper value coverage from the ST ebay store.

There are 2 reasons you are incorrect. I know they don't make it clear so I will inform everyone. First one is if the item were elgiable for Squaretrade the option would be avaliable on the auction page itself. If it is not then Squretrade itself deemed it not applicable which is why you have to go to their store page in ebay.

On the link you sent me they say:
"How do I purchase a SquareTrade warranty?
If the item you are purchasing qualifies for SquareTrade Warranty, you have the option to purchase it directly from the item description page prior to checkout. After checkout, you can still purchase it from the payment confirmation page or through your post-purchase reminder email."

There will be no option to purchase with this monitor, because it does not qualify.

Here is the link to their terms:
eBay Protection Plan | eBay Seller Center

Here's where it gets tricky:

"Protection plan eligibility of each listing is determined by a number of factors — price, condition, category. eBay will automatically associate the eligible protection plan with each listing."

"We are currently offering protection plans in Electronics, Parts & Accessories, Auto Tools and Home & Garden categories based on overwhelming feedback from our buyers. In the future, we plan to expand this program to even more categories"

So the reason they will deny this is because it does not fall under electronics, it falls under:

Computers/Tablets & Networking
>
Monitors, Projectors & Accs
>
Monitors

There is an electronics section in ebay, computers are a completely different catagory. Everyone should also keep this in mind for any other item they buy, not just a monitor.

Now on to part 2, even if you somehow convince them to ignore the ebay category which is in their terms, they can still deny you on the fact it's not new:

I asked Squaretrade directly, yes it is in writing.

This is what I got from them in writing.
