Why is my Windows 10 Virtual Machine so slow on my i5 2500k ?

I gave it 2 GB of ram and 1 processor core

Windows updates takes forever.

Your question is to broad. Describe slow? What is the specs of the host?

Because Windows 10 (and any version since Vista, honestly) needs more than 2GB of RAM and one processor core to run fast. You can test this on just about any physical machine you like... Windows 10 will run, but you'd have to optimize the heck out of it to get even mediocre performance. I tried it on a Celeron 900 laptop with 2GB of RAM. It ran, but ran slowly.

I also tested it on a little Celeron N2808 set-top box with 4GB of RAM and 2 processor cores. It actually runs pretty well on that... so give it 4GB of RAM and another processor core. That should help a lot.

I'd honestly say that my recommended requirements are as follows for each version of Windows:

Windows 10//8.1/8/7/Vista: 4GB of RAM, dual-core processor at 2GHZ or higher.

Windows XP: 1GB, single-core processor at 1.2GHz or higher.

Windows 2000: 512MB, single-core processor at 700MHz or higher.

Windows ME/98SE/95: 256MB, single core processor at 300MHz or higher.

Windows 3.11: 32MB, single core processor at 66MHz or higher.

I've never tried an older version of Windows, so that's as far back as I can go.

@OP as well ....

See post #2 above.

Can't really give an answer without more info.

What if the OP is running a VM on a type 2 hypervisor via a single 5400rpm hard drive while doing an antivirus scan.
What if the appropriate VM tools are not installed?
Yes....it's a stretch ...but we don't know his/her config or what else is going on the physical box.

Windows Update is slow for me on physical boxes lately ...from Win 7 to Win 10 and they all meet your recommended requirements.
