[H]OT DEAL: Acer Recertified Monitors Back In Stock (X34 Predator $730, XR341CK $600 and more)

I received my broken XB271HU 4 days ago and I emailed them ([email protected]) the same day about the broken monitor i received but I haven't got any reply.

Any ideas?

I would call them first thing Monday morning instead of waiting for a reply.

+1

Some would probably call right off the bat. I'd personally wait at least 2 business days and then call if no response... you've already waited 4.

Envious of those of you who got a working X34. Wish I had seen this thread in time.

how is it possible they keep dropping the ball on this kind of stuff? I mean a guy orders three monitors and all three arrive broken? The first thought in my mind is they are trying to offload all the crap panels they have been getting as returns the past few months and seem to just not give a damn about the people spending 1/2 a grand on this stuff.

The conspiracy theorist in me says they are packing them horribly so they break then they can submit damage claims for them. I keep coming back to this thread looking for a change in the state of their packing - the consistency of the poor packaging is definitely suspicious.

Is it part of their fiscal year? "Year end sales" to raise their books some, then returns will come back in the new year which they will hope to make up?

With the way they are packing the monitors (Atleast for the XB271HU), there is a 90%+ chance it will arrive damaged.

Apart from the 4 tiny flimsy styro they only use to hopefully protect the monitor, there is a huge gap inside the box which guarantees a slight movement will knock the monitor off the flimsy styro.

Yeah -- that's pretty damn bad I'm not anti-acer by any means they make some nice laptops, and I have one of their LED monitors functioning as a security display, but this kind of stuff with the initial quality controls then shitty refurb sales make me very very happy I bought a Dell S2716DG. Sure it's not IPS, but it's fast, sexy, and mine arrived perfect. Very happy with dell brand monitors, probably picking up an ultrasharp in the coming weeks so I can have a main/gaming monitor and a "good" secondary monitor.

It's weird that model is getting such sub par packing, the x34 I got was in a brown box version of the original box.

It's not Acer that's repacking these refurbished monitors. It's some third party vendor that Acer commissioned to verify, repackage and resell. What I think is happening is that Acer put this work out to bid and awarded the contract to some shoddy business. If enough complaints come in Acer will be forced to make the necessary changes to their refurbishing process.

-------->Three Monitor Guy <------- incoming 4th in the making :S
Here is the picture of the packing of the 2nd monitor that arrived with a broken screen.
The front of the panel was literally leaning/making contact against the inner of the cardboard shipping box when I opened it, not making this crap up at all...

Are you able to share these pictures with the CS reps? It basically looks like the company refurbishing these monitors don't have customized packaging on hand. They're just using generic Styrofoam and cardboard boxes.

I did and they didn't care

Mine will be here tomorrow, we'll see how it goes. I don't understand how they can allow this to happen. I sell about $30k per month of mostly electronics on Amazon and would never package my stuff this bad.

I ordered a XB270HU-brpz ips and an X34:
The XB is disappointing because out of the box the contrast and color space were great with no dead pixels or ips glow/back-light issues. The bezel and base were scuffed up like someone used the monitor for lan parties or something, but I didn't care. However, I just got my RMA number for it because anything above 60Hz causes the monitor to turn on and off and then eventually completely off.

The X34 has very minor backlight issues that are barely noticeable and no dead-pixels. The bezel was actually still in the plastic wrap stuff and was probably only returned because the monitor has flickering @100Hz. 95Hz it works perfectly. Since I am coming from a 60Hz monitor and am getting a $1300 monitor for $700, I think that the 95Hz is acceptable.

Got my XB271HU and it looks good. I agree though that the < 1 in of space between the screen and box is a bad idea. So how do you test the higher refresh rates?

You should be able to OC the monitor using the monitor setting and windows should automatically detected the new Refresh rate, if not just change it your self.
I order a 4th one but was never delivered, apparently the ran out of stock yet they still sold a few ones without checking with the warehouse!

I got my GN246HL today and it's flawless; zero dead pixels, can't even tell it was ever used. The packaging was great too, completely cushioned all the way around and zero movement within the box. Only problem was they included a single link DVI cable. No biggie, I had a spare dual link cable anyway. My OCD is finally at peace now that my wife and I have matching panels. Such a bargain at $140. :)

Hopefully people read this thread before buying, totally not worth the risk at $999 - Captain Obivous

The 4th XB271HU came in last week, this time in a bigger box and more robust packing. To my misfortune the Panel has a massive back light bleed on bottom left corner and a cornea scorching IPS glow... gawd!!!
Well that monitor is going back to Acer and I'm officially throwing the towel in the whole IPS G-sync monitor fad and going back to TN panels. IPS Glow is like having a Delicious crap and shrimp sandwich, I love Shrimp but Shit in my food is a no no! I previously owned an Acer XB280 TN 4K G-sync panel so viewing angles and color shift is not an issue for me. Peace out!

I just ordered 2 more XB1's to see if I can get a working tri screen setup going. Hopefully the packing goes well.

IPS glow is pretty normal. Backlight bleed is not. IPS glow shows up or disappears depending on the angle you are looking at the screen at. To see if it's truly backlight bleed, you have to back up, away from the monitor. FYI, you can fix backlight bleed. I did so with my Qnix. I would detail how, but I have written about it before in the Qnix thread and it's plainly obvious no one is really going to bother despite how simple the operation is, and you've probably already returned it anyhow.

As far as these go, I would just buy a new one. This doesn't seem worth the hassle to me. But I'm satisfied with my RoG Swift anyhow. I don't need IPS for a gaming monitor. Next gaming monitor I'll get will be OLED, if it will ever actually exist...

I did try to reduce the back light bleed with the different techniques out there, it just didn't worked due to the frameless design of the monitor. I recognize the difference between Normal IPS and Eye bleeding IPS glow, this was the case of bad IPS glow, you have to back away and shift/aim/center your entire body and head to that particular side of the monitor to make the Glow semi-disappear. Plus 4 corners with backlight bleed that managed to creep even with bright images on scree... not worth it, going back to TN panels for gaming and VA for productivity, IPS glow is horrendous.

im so tempted to order the xb1 but with everyones issues im not sure it's even worth it :(

Yeah, I'm pretty pissed they upped the price so I'll just wait until they drop it back to $729.

You have to wonder why such a huge price difference on the x34. It was 999 on ebay yesterday, and then 729 again today, been F5ing their ebay page for two weeks now, finally scored one for 729. so now we'll see how i fare in the panel/shipping damage lotteries. It seems the stars have to align perfectly to get a good one at this price, fingers crossed.

The price difference along with none being for sale in the prior two weeks rattled me into buying one now too. I was trying to wait until it lined up with a 8/10% ebay bucks day again.

Both XB1's arrived to day way better packed then the first round I had. One arrived fine and the other had a very subtle crack in the top right corner. shame too because 99% of the area looked pristine. Sad part was the partially open box had the fine monitor and the sealed undamaged looking box had the crack.

3 XB1's on the ebay store. Cheaper in the actual recert store but can't purchase an extended warranty this way.

Is it really worth $50 to get an XB1 over XB270HU bprz?
You got me after having a 21:9 monitor I have no want to go back to a 27" I just can't stand the 2560x1080 res in a 29".

I meant between last years model and this years model for the 27 inch monitor.
