8-bit Display of the Day

That was really neat. I wonder how they got that to run? Surely they didn't manually program the light show on all the individual keyboards.

What did they use to get 160 usb ports on one system? I would rather like to see the back end setup for something like this.

I'[m sure the programmers were able to come up with a synchronization program for all those keyboards.. or they have a program that is just able to play whatever on the keyboards just as if they were one big display.

They probably had 161 Raspberry Pi's, each one controlled a KB and 1 controlled them all.

They have shown with research that going for the middle in advertisement doesn't sell anymore. People are so bombarded by advertisement so much these days they treat nearly everything as noise unless it unique. Therefore using a keyboard not as a keyboard might actually get somebody to buy a keyboard. It is nuts as hell, but the data backs this up.

Yup. Advertising has gotten so endemic everywhere people no longer notice a billboard in front of them.

And while a stunt like this is cool and I'll remember it...I'm never buying a Logitech keyboard...

This is a pretty memorable stunt, good for them for trying someone out of the box. It's amazing how obsessed people are with keyboard backlighting, considering you never actually look at your keyboard if you know how to type.

looks like more keyboards on the other 2 sides?
yes i too would like to see the backend workings of this.

i thought the usb specification allowed for 255 devices? probably could be done with several usb hubs

all it would take is an up stream and down steam usb device, the usb spec was back in the day you plugged in one device then the others into it... I remember keyboards that had plugs one either side of the cord... wow that was a long time ago...

I meant more on the software side. Some kind of intelligent translator between an 8-bit video and the keyboard grid, I'd think. 1 pixel = 1 letter. Wonder what it was coded in.

Luke from Linus Media Group said something about it being done through a network mesh.

(at 35 second mark)
