Mirror's Edge: Catalyst

I liked the idea of the first one but couldnt quite get into it. This looks a lot better overall. I love the First Person view but I wish the camera would bob around a lot more, its to perfectly smooth.

If the camera bobbed realistically, you'd have a looooooot of motion sick gamers.

It may've been smoothed out for playback, or at least played on a gamepad to minimize shakiness?

I got the first game during one of those cheap Humble Bundle sales but am not in any hurry to play

Andromeda is an excuse and cop-out IMO to steer away from the train wreck that is 3.
Back on topic, then.

3 was the last of the original series anyways. Andromeda will likely be a crappy grind fest with a dull sci fi back drop only, but I think most people will love it anyways. I wouldn't mind a remake of ME1-3, but give it some time. ME3 isn't even 4 years old. Remakes so close to the originals are kind of pointless.

Loved the first game, i thought everything from the environments and controls were perfect. I'm kind of annoyed that they complete removed your ability to pick up a gun in this one though.

Agree! The first one was absolutely incredible. I didn't use the guns most of the time when I disarmed someone, but every once in a while the situation called for it IMO. It wasn't required or forced, so I don't see why giving the player the choice was removed.

Look like EA is not alone than. Is there a link between the two EA btw?

Congrats. More black and more piercing presented by W and his friends.

 I'm afraid I don't get it. Are you attempting to draw some kind of feeble parallel between someone with a lot of "face jewelery" making a fairly grotesque expression with some simple and IMO understated tattoos on a game-character's face? I have nothing against anyone with rings/studs/whatever (used to have a ring through my septum actually) however, your example is gratuitous due to the face being made for some kind of shock factor. It's in no way the same thing. If you just showed someone with a normal expression (or even a smile) who had a ring or two in their face, there would be nothing different than the subtle tattoos that Faith has.

If you want to compare the two, you'd need to find a picture of faith with a full face-mask and making some kind of contorted expression.

Besides that, who cares even if her whole face was covered if she's a compelling character in a compelling game? She could have rings and tattoos, and still be a good part of a good game.

IMO you're just far too out of touch with reality.

For the record, I also am a fan of Jack in Mass Effect.

I hope you're wrong about Andromeda, but after burning out of DA:I after 80 hours with barely getting to the half-way point in the story and little desire to finish it, I'm inclined to believe you are right.

As for the trilogy remake, it's one I will be eagerly waiting for.

Wtf are you posting this for?

I was thinking the same damn thing. The hell...

I'll have to take a look at this someday. I still haven't finished the first - I really wanted to like it, but had a difficult time getting into the story due to the cheesy dialog, and also the animation style used in the cut scenes. I'll have to give it another shot. The parkour gameplay elements were pretty awesome.

I'm the only one that think the tattoo in the face of Faith is not really suitable for a game for the mass?
Lol. Wut?

Tattoo's and face tattoo's specifically have had lots of cultural significance for millenia. A lot of Asian and Island cultures specifically used face tattoos.

Who gives a shit? It's not like she has a gang related symbol (e.g. teardrop) or a swastika or any number of things that could be offensive.

<giant pic of piercings>

EA is not alone? Who is the other entity you are referring to?

More black? It's a tattoo. Tattoo's are traditionally black ink.

More piercings? There wasn't a single piercing on any character shown in the game footage.

Who's W and his friends?

To show the result of your administration.
Our Administration? What Administration are you referring to? Government? Special interest group? EA themselves?

WTF are you going on about? No one here understands what your issue is.
Stop trolling and GTFO.

If there are no guns, which is fine for a game like this, will a lot of martial arts (more than before) replace it? Would love some Wing Chun (which is great against larger opponents btw)

I feel like the combat looks awful, but I guess this is the best they can do with the first-person thing.

Oh I totally agree, I'm not after full on realistic motion but to see her arms and legs flail around and have the image look like a camera is on a gimble is a bit weird.

I would like firearms, but they must be done right. With no vests or ways to retain ammo (well, she probably has a few pockets...) you should only be able to use the current magazine. Meaning if there are 13 rounds left, that is all you get. No holsters, make the long guns sling-less so they must all be dropped when you have to do any type of climbing. Point being, they're only used infrequently and you can't hold onto them forever. Just for small parts of the occasional mission (like the first game).

It doesn't surprise me because the original was excellent. This one is REALLY looking nice though. This is the only reason that I will install Origin on my main gaming PC. I've been waiting a long time for this.

Oh man it looks awesome. I love the art style and they've definitely kept it consistent with the first game. The modern lighting effects are so good!

The original was awesome.

Def an original gaming experience. At the time, it blew me away.

The original starting game of many EA of IPs have been great, since when has that meant that all the sequels are automatically as good or superior? In fact the opposite has been occurring over time. More poignantly, Mirror's Edge and Dead Space were both developed at a time when EA was prepared to take greater risks with new IPs, and even then John Riccitiello claims that he had to fight to get them made. Look what happened to the last Dead Space game, it was a boring action shooter with microtransactions.

I've got a closed beta key - send me a PM if you want it. If I get a lot of PMs I'll randomize and pick a winner.

edit: it's been claimed!

I've finish the beta in 2 hours. This is a very good game. Can't wait to play the rest and I hope EA will take our save from the beta so we don't replay all this again.

game looks good. got a key for ps4 from someone. I like the hit and run aspect of the new mirror's edge gameplay, but hope they don't go too far with trying to make it a combat game. For those that have the pc version how is the performance so far? I don't expect it to have sli right now but would definitely like to have 21:9 support for sure.

I can definitely see this game becoming extremely popular with all the VR gears and people raving about the experience.

Game looks and plays awesome. Really made for a controller, keyboard is meh.

can't wait to play it.
I felt the first one was short, just when I started to master the movement tricks and didn't have to replay everything 4-10 times I finished it.

I'm afraid the game combat play a large part of the game and I don't mind because the combat are so cool in the beta. With all the unlocks and the other units in the final version, I bet it will get even better.

I got a R9 200 or 7900 and the frame rate is all fine. But I don't need 60 fps for your information and fraps was not running. I'm sure I was something like 30 or 40. Also, I got some lag spike of 50ms to time.

I really like the game play, it feels faster than the first one and very fluid. It also feels like a bigger game and has side quests. Combat being de-emphasized is a nice change from the majority of games. I'm glad they didn't bow to pressure from the COD-heads and added a lot of combat to a game where it wouldn't make sense.

The fact that it's sort of a remake but not quite is really disturbing. Why did they have the change some of the little details that don't affect the plot. Why is Faith's sister Kate now named Cat? That's barely any different and doesn't serve a real purpose. Also, Faith was 24 in Mirror's Edge and now "2 years later" she's being released from "juvie". That's going to bug me. It would have been easier if they'd changed either the bare minimum to get where they're going or much more and been really obvious about it.

I'm definitely going to pick this one up, maybe not on release but after I clear my current backlog.

What also impresses me is a single 280x can play fine at 1440 60+ FPS! Amazing the optimizations of the Frostbyte Engine is all I can say.

Keyboard and mouse feels fine to me. Feels like the previous game.

It's good to have the options! I actually had to blow the dust layer off my controller for this one.

Outside of some hitching the only issue I've noticed in the "beta" is that the game locks up when trying to exit it. I had to restart my computer the last time I played.

While I have not tried the beta I think this is a must buy for me. I absolutely loved the first Mirror's Edge.
