All this research and I'm back at square 1... Ceton or Happuage or other?

I'm looking to get rid of my 3 cable boxes... the boxes and remotes cost about $9 each per month from Cablevision here in northern New Jersey.

I have a desktop HTPC in both the living room and the bedroom with GTX960 video card and 2TB drives. Not looking to do any crazy recording, but want to make it easy to watch TV and potentially record. I don't subscribe to HBO or anything like that, so no premium channels are required - but if I could have the ability to purchase and watch them, it'd be good.

I'm torn between Ceton or Happuage or is there something else?

I have a wireless keyboard for both each computer and I use it when in bed in the bedroom or on the couch in the living room. I don't watch much TV other than some MSNBC, MSG for hockey games, etc.

Thanks, guys!! I'm so torn here :(

You most likely need something with cablecard support. I highly doubt cablevision has all the channels you want to watch on their system unencrypted.

I had a Ceton, it was kinda crappy. The HDHomeRun Prime I had worked a lot better.

And with the Prime the tuners can be shared between both HTPC's. The Ceton does that too, but it's a big PITA.

This times 1000. I had a ceton infinitv4 for about 5 or 6 months. It was slow a tuning channels, my windows media center would hang alot. I tried in conjunction with a HDHomerun prime for about a week. I sold the infinitv4 on ebay and bought a 2nd HDHomerun prime. Been enjoying it ever since. The HDHomerun prime is by far a better product. In 4 years I had less problems with two of them then I did with one infinitv4 in 6 months.

Only problem I had with them is that last year had a power surge through my cable modem that killed a few things that were connected through the ethernet port. So one of them wouldn't connect at all, and one would only do 100Mb. Other then that they've been rock solid and I don't think I can on more then one hand the amount of times I've had to restart them. The infinitv4 I was rebooting my HTPC once or twice a week.

Yeah... i've had more problems with the !@#!#*!# tuning adapter than I have with the Prime. Those need to be kicked over once in a while or things get funky.

Do NOT get a Ceton, they are absolute garbage. HDHomeRun Prime is definitely the way to go, way more reliable.

Thank you, guys!!! HDHomeRun Prime it is for me. I'll order and post pics of my setup as soon as it arrives and I set it up. Thanks, again!!

I installed the HDHomeRun Prime and have had nothing but trouble... WTF?!?!? I'm about to throw this shit out the window and get my cable boxes back... I don't even care about the $20 a month anymore... I just want this shit to work

Need more info than "HALP! BORKEN!". "nothing but trouble" is quite useless. Have you called the cable provider? Do they require a tuning adapter? (chances are quite good the answer is yes there) Do you have the tuning adapter hooked up? Is the signal strength good? (that last one's more a question for the cable company)

Have you gone through the setup completely? You'll want to go through the full WMC setup for it to work. Just calling and getting it paired with cable company isn't enough. Instructions for Windows Media Center

My ceton card was fine but get the hdhomerun. Ceton looks to being out of business

What issues are you experiencing?

Without any detail, I bet you forgot to open the necessary ports in your router for it to perform WMDRM verification.
