No Man's sky

Wait... we actually have a release date now?! Time to get hype (again) :cat:.

Sounds like a cool game to just veg out and explore.
Also something tells me it would be even better on a 100" projector.

Think about the nightmare it would be to review this game. The experience will be significantly different for each player.
Hell, as a player, i'm going to want to have the ability to record my home planet, as I may never see it again.

What crazy-awesome problems to have!

What if you land on a planet of beautiful nymphomaniacs? then what do you do? I know what I would do....blow up my space ship.

NO! That would be a VERY useful tool for... extraterrestrial extracurriculars!

Maybe just disable the FTL drive.

Yeah, from the interview they are saying that it is "extremely unlikely" for two people to find the same planet. I mean the scope of the universe sounds insane.
With my luck I would land on the Nympho planet and just get going when a tour bus ship full of chip and dale dancers would crash land.

Taken from the Playstation Blog (No Man’s Sky Launching June 21st on PS4):

"In No Man’s Sky you can trade, fight, explore, and survive in a boundless, computer-generated universe. It’s a vast, open game, and always a hard one to demonstrate quickly, but recently we let some people from the press loose in No Man’s Sky."

"They got to see new features like how to survive on hazardous planets and how to learn alien languages, and for the first time we showed off some alien races you will be able to communicate with."

Seems like there will be a lot more to it than just exploring, but I am really excited about exploring. That was my favorite part about Mass Effect; bombing around on planets with the Maco. Even though there wasn't much to find it was still fun. This'll be fun in a pick-up-and-play-for-a-hour kind of way. Go explore a little here and there. Pre-ordered my copy.

Looks like they maybe put more effort into the graphics...not too bad.

Procedural generated universe sounds like a recipe for boring as hell to me.

Also not getting why people are raving about how it looks. To me it looks like a random color generator for everything and the result is not pleasing to my eye at all.

I feel the same way.

I would appreciate this game more if they tried to use more real astrophysics in the design.

After watching the 21-minute IGN video, the game actually looks a lot cooler than what we've seen so far. At least some actual gameplay mechanics are being revealed now.

Still seems to mostly just be exploration and resource gathering...has terrain deformation but it doesn't look like you can build a base or anything large-scale like Minecraft.

One step at a time... lol. Looks amazing to me. I've never seen two things from the latest video... one is that you can actually talk to NPCs and the other like you mentioned is the terrain deformation.

Well it's set to be released in June...I don't think they are going to be making any more major changes at this point.

However, given the vast nature of the universe in the game, I think you are just encouraged to explore endlessly rather than build a base somewhere. I just hope there is enough diversity/progression in crafting and whatnot to keep it interesting.

I still think this game is going to be a let down. Even with the latest videos, the actual gameplay looks razor thin...

Whelp, who has it now? Debating on getting it, everyone online that has it, says it exceeded expectations. Watched a couple live stream gameplay on YouTube yesterday.

Well, this is interesting. Two players found each other in game but they cannot see each other. Wonder why the company just didn't come out and say you cannot see each other in game?

At no point has the game been pitched as a multiplayer game that wound support this:

What we can do is, like many games that you have at the moment, where you are flying around with an open lobby. People are coming into that lobby and leaving it – like if you play Watch Dogs or something like that. Effectively, we have players joining your discrete space. We're not trying to make an MMO where you can play with literally 60,000 people on screen. We handle the case like where other people can fly past in your game or that you can bump into other players in the game.

That is developer speak for "You can't play with your friends, but you might see some random people if the stars and the moon on the servers line up just right".

But isn't this demonstrating you can't see other people? I guess I don't know what they mean by "see" people.

Presuming the player games are somehow instanced, two people would need to be on the same server of instances (instead of instances hosting worlds, where people would then immediately all flock to the same areas).

This game had numerous warning signs of a developer trying to blow smoke up people's asses. The zero commitment on multiplayer was one of them for me. I cancelled my preorder, I'll pick it up if the vibe turns to positive soon.

I dunno, the online connection was "offline" all night I was playing it.

Yeah wife surprised me with a copy yesterday...so I was playing, pain in the ass running out of space in my inventory, but I guess part of the game. I noticed it was online and then offline switching back and forth a few times.
