While the PlayStation 4.5 may very well be real, it seems that Xbox won’t be following suit. Whatever they end up doing, I just hope it is a much stronger effort than the One.

When asked about a potential Xbox 1.5 update, Spencer answered, "I'm not a big fan of Xbox One and a half. If we're going to move forward, I want to move forward in big numbers," Spencer clarified that he doesn't have any inside knowledge about PlayStation's plans or the rumors currently circulating, but he added, "For us, our box is doing well. It performs, it's reliable, the servers are doing well. If we’re going to go forward with anything, like I said, I want it to be a really substantial change for people--an upgrade."

"We're the lowest common denominator for game performance bitches, we don't need to change anything, game developers will target us no matter what"

Nope. Game developers target the platform they will make the most money on. The is why the PS4 versions of multiplat games this gen are usually better. Games are developed using the PS4 as the primary platform and assets are ported from there.

If anything, the developers should be relieved that both consoles share the same type of architecture with the exception the XB1 having the ESRAM. Trying to program for the previous Cell processor could not have been easy on the Sony side, especially trying to port games to that.

All I care is that the games are fun and the controller(XB1) is comfortable. I had a high end gaming PC when I used to care about graphics. I may get back into it at some point when I have more time in my schedule, but gaming in my recliner is pretty nice.

It's just doublespeak for "we are butthurt Sony is going to increase the gap even further till next gen" honestly I don't think with management change at Microsoft that the Xbox one doesn't really matters to them anymore.

I want to move forward in big numbers,
If their definition of 'big numbers' is what going from XBOX360 to XBONE is... then its no wonder this is the first generation i never bought the "next gen" consoles.

What a WOFTAM

XBox matters enough for Microsoft to do everything they can to drive gaming from PC to XBox.

Insert standard this standard reply for:

A) XBox
B) Windows 8
C) Windows 10 spying
D) Internet explorer
E) Windows Phone

Microsoft said:
There is no problem here. Just keep using this teacup to bail out the titanic and everything will be fine

This is usual lot of PR words that mean exactly nothing from Phil Spencer.
He might be against xbox 1,5 but that might as well mean they will call it xbox two

What a delirious motherfucker he is. It's not doing well, it performs like shit, and its reliability is good in that after the RRoD anything is an improvement.

But I thought both the PS4 and XBone were so far advanced, the marketing said so. Now PS4.5 is the bestest and Xbox next is right around the corner. Rinse and repeat, same old lies. All console buyers should have bought a PC. Whenever I talk to them they claim their console is so great. Then I ask them how they mod, they look confused and act like mods are dumb. Kind of nice knowing you are right, even when no one will listen to you.

In other words, XBox Two is fine.

There won't be an Xbox Two, because it was already decided internally at MS that the One would be the company's last console -- all the way back before it's launch in fact.

That was a rumour, first off.

That rumour had weight MOSTLY because the rise of casual gaming in ~2010 meant that Triple-A titles were becoming less profitable, and everyone and their dog were expecting a crash in the AAA market, and to have mobile and casual game take over. This was all pre-2013 while the consoles were in development.

That crash never happened, consoles are still selling well, and PC is more competitive than ever. The AAA games industry is holding strong, and sales records are still being broken. so I don't buy the whole 'the last console generation evar' BS.

You keep saying this but you can't be more wrong. Your "inside source" is an idiot.

And even if his dipshit claims were true (LOL) everyone involved in decision making at that time, including the Xbox chief and the company CEO, were replaced shortly thereafter.

I don't know, what I'm reading from that is Spencer doesn't want people to think of a hardware upgrade as a Xbone 1.5 but as a more substantial hardware upgrade. So like a Xbone 2.4.

It's getting harder and harder to understand Spencer's double talk, I liked Spencer more when he first took over the reigns and kept his messaging simpler.

IF Microsoft releases an NextBox that can play XBone games in 1440p, and then up-scale them to 4K, but can also play NextBox exclusive titles, that would be a 'single digit' increase.

I (much to the amusement of Microsoft no doubt) did not know that. Ouch to all XBone supporters, didn't know you were buying into a dead tech did you? Should have gone PC.

That information was an unsubstantiated rumour. It was never decided internally that the Xbox One would be Microsoft's last console: Businesses simply don't make those sweeping decisions before a product's launch. With Sega and the Dreamcast, that decision was made after two failed consoles had launched. No boardroom sits around in a circle and says:

"Alright gentlemen! The market is dying and we don't see any more profit left... Lets make ONE MORE console!"

If Microsoft felt the market was done for, they simply would not have released a console.

You probably are right that they never formally discussed it, this is the first I have heard the rumor. I think they went too low on the hardware specs and tried to skimp on hardware costs and tout TV features etc. We will see what happens, doesn't look too good though.

Define dead tech. If by dead tech you mean I'm going to get a good solid 10 years of game releases on a single platform for a mere $400-$500 and the next generation might or might not support BC, sure it is dead tech. However as a primary PC gamer, I spend way more than that in the same period of time. So really things like the XB1 and PS4 suit their purpose just fine. They are relatively inexpensive gaming and media machines that allow me to play certain exclusive games from my recliner. If I want to play other games where I care more about the graphics, then obviously I play them on my PC. Choice really is an amazing thing. I don't have to get on forums and make an ass out of myself trying to act high and mighty and pretending like there is only one choice for playing games.

DPI claims to have an inside source that has all but assured him that the XOne is the last MS console. However, I have two very close sources that laugh and flatly deny that is the case and considering they're actively working on the next console I'm more inclined to believe them rather than some random dude on the Internet that actively goes out of his way to spread as much fud regarding MS as he does.

10 years, huh?

You're so original.

But, but, but I can play my PC while on the recliner too, and upgrade it.

Well given that is the typical cycle of these machines yes. For that matter I still have two day one PS3's that are running just fine and get used every day. I'm pretty sure they are both older than 10 at this point.

That's nice. The games I play on my PC I don't want to play from my couch and the PC doesn't have access to all games I play. This argument is moot.

The console upgrade cycle is USUALLY 5 years or so. The Seventh generation was QUITE protracted and was stretched out to seven or eight years before a successor. This is NOT typical. also, the day-1 PS3 was a highly over-engineered device. This is a good thing, but not a normal thing. Day-One Xbox360s were not as reliable. I would expect to see new consoles by 2018, with support for current Eighth Gen consoles to last until 2020.
