The Division - officially announced for PC!

I played the beta. Is it worth it to play it now? I enjoyed the beta but it was a very empty feeling world.

I think the game is worth it. The DZ has a lot more mobs now, even the PvE area has more street mobs (they increase as you rank up and move into more difficult areas, they are not bad in the early areas). It is not as empty as the Betas felt. That said, don't expect constant confrontation. I think they've created a nice balance and spacing, for the most part. It is common to be fighting one mob (DZ) and have another close by mob get pulled in.

the >5 people exploits I agree with. The weapon crafting thing is a problem though. To craft high end equipment you need to convert some 30 items, generally only obtainable by killing bosses or DZ loot chests. And if it does not have the things you want, sorry, try again after another 15 bosses. Oh, lets add the blueprints - 60 bosses to buy one, but you maybe should get enough materials for 4 crafting attempts.

The best parts of the game have to do with a steady sense of progression. But then at some point the progression just stops and things just shift to grinding for materials and coins.

Now you certainly don't have to craft. But random gear you find will never be as good as what you have, and what you have will probably not have the setup you want.

EDIT:
My numbers are somewhat off. Deconstructing purples will give 2 blues, so crafting requirements will be half what I stated....

Agreed, once you progress past the level cap, the game changes. Frankly, to keep up and not get buldozed by the Rogues, level 31 blueprints, crafting and reconfiguring is your only option. These require Phoenix Credits, Crafting Materials and the rarest of all... Division Tech. All these things translate into days and days of grinding. The game currently does not reward your time and effort well enough in 2 of these areas. Crafting materials do not tend to be a problem, so long as you're deconstructing anyting you do not want. The Credits and DivTech however are a different story. A Boss drops 1-3 Phoenix Credits no matter if you're playing on Hard or Challenge; facing level 32 Bosses, or 30. DivTech is only available in the DZ and only High Ends can be used to craft HE gear / weapons. The cases you find them in only respawn every 2 hours, and if someone else gets there first, you could spend all night running around the DZ, fighting off mobs and Rogues, and still not leave with enough to craft 1 item. This needs to be changed, and it sounds like it will be before long. In the meantime, players who don't particularly have hours and days to waste on a video game, are finding ways around the system. I can't blame them. Is it right? No, but neither is the current condition of the game. When players can REASONABLY acquire what they need, without making it so easy people are racing to the finish line in a couple days, then much of the exploiting will cease. It will never end completely, but those who prefer to play the game as intended will be less frustrated and more likely to stick to the 'rules'.

Great to know. I just want to make sure that if I decide to get the game, I'm not wasting my cash.

You will spend 30-ish hours completing the solo part. Then you will spend countless hours either playing the same missions over and over again, or running around killing shit in the DZ. All for minuscule upgrades to your gear so you can kill the same shit quicker.

If that doesn't appeal to you, then you will have wasted your money. Me personally, those 30 hours were worth the cost of admission. I'm not firing the game back up until their next update (which will be soon).

Played for about 2 hours last night. Gotta say, I'm enjoying it. Got to lvl5 and made it to the command center with the three wings then log for the night.

Got another 3 DZ levels knocked out since last night, up to 21. Goal for the weekend is to try and get up to 30. If anyone sees me on and wants to do some hard modes, just hit me up, I'm all for some mass slaughter. :D Still gotta get that gear up for challenge modes though, I feel really behind the curve.

Sounds like Destiny... which is what Ubisoft is trying to emulate/beat.

Had quite a good day yesterday. Ran the two hard dailies with randoms, then spent some time collecting the intel stuff (phones, etc) for a slower pace. Ran into a named dude and his crew and he dropped Midas. Went into the Dz for a bit solo, picked up a couple of ranks (now 17) and had Caduceus drop...was sweating out that extraction but got it out ok. Midas is definitely inferior to my crafted HE Vector, but with some decent mode Caduceus looks like it might make for an interesting build.

I prefer the Midas and also my purple AUG over the Vector I crafted. the Caduceus is definitely my favorite AR.

Also nice run! Caduceus and Midas in the same night, good stuff.

I'm wondering if the server maintenance and Hornet/Hutch exploit patch (server side) last night also adjusted the drop rates. I entered the DZ through a checkpoint and immediately entered combat (at the checkpoint) once I went through the gate. The second bad guy I dropped gave me Division Tech. I then joined a group and we ran between a few landmarks .. Every landmark had a Division Tech crate as well as other mini crates I don't remember being there. Either it was just perfect timing on our part, or they've made an adjustment (maybe DivTech is able to be looted per player instead of one player per server every two hours?).

The Incursion stream yesterday talked about a new Gear Score. I think they may be planning to use that to level the playing field for all of the end-gamers. Right now, I'm done with 30 and have yet to see any HE drops. I have mainly purple and some blue gear. I get mowed down if someone goes Rogue who has been farming Hornet. Looking at just the level, we're even, but if you compare our gear, there's shit-ton of players who are twice as strong. So newer Level 30 players get steamrolled and it makes for a bad matchmaking experience - gear score is the way to go with this IMHO.

Had fun farming Hutch one last time with you guys last night - of course, the mic and headset were at the PC and I was playing streamed to the TV.

I will be on the mic next time heh.

I think you'll start seeing plenty more, take a look at your Scavenging rate (under Character, all the way at the bottom of your stats). Try to boost it towards 100% with gear and mods, this will improve the quality of the drops you do get (ie: more likely for a HE to drop in place of a purple). My first time in the DZ as a fresh 30 netted me 9 High End drops (squad of 4) inside 4 hrs, 5 more the second night. It seems the game also biases drops towards those with little to no HE gear in their inventory. None of my squad mates were as lucky, but they all already had 70% or more HE gear. Now I'm the guy with all the gear and rarely seeing a HE drop. That said, the rates have improved since 2 server side patches ago.

I had a good time as well, hope to squad up again some night. I've got a lot of 12hr shifts these next couple weeks, but I will still be on when I can.

I'm really enjoying the game now, but man are there some serious bugs. Just in the last couple hours I've had:

- Team and I kept falling through the ground at a certain point on a mission. Every. Time. Tried every possible approach. We were almost completely done, on Hard, and could not progress any further because we would fall through the world and die. Had to disband and abandon the mission. Very annoying, especially on Hard.
- Tried another main mission with a team. Had to blow up 5 napalm tanks. Also had this mission on Hard. Got close to the end with 4 of 5 tanks destroyed. Last tank is bugged and won't blow up. Had to abandon again..
- Just now I was on a solo side quest protecting supplies. As I was running from supplies, I noticed I was getting the normal voice prompts. The normal "Enemy approaching" or "supplies under attack" stuff. Didn't think anything about it. Finished the mission and fast traveled to a safe house. Was walking around, when here come the voice prompts that I didn't get 5 minutes ago. So standing in a safe house, I get 2 straight minutes of voice prompts about a mission I finished 5 minutes ago.

Those are just the ones I've had today in the last couple hours. They REALLY need to get these massive bugs patched.

I've had various other problems the last few days as well. Random disconnects, massive lag, unresponsive mission objectives, etc.

Had that happen to us, don't abandon. Clear the tank area and then move up to the top scaffolding. Jump off and die. Once you reload and reclear, you'll be able to destroy all five tanks. Saves a bit of time rather than restarting.

My two son's and I were playing last night and in the middle of a large group of yellows in the DZ when a group of three rogues with manhunt status started to bang on us, and I was immediately worried, but then a group of about 12 or so friendly players showed up that were hunting the rogues and we cleared the NPC and the three rogues. It was a good time for sure.

I got my first HE from Lincoln Tunnel. No actual drops though. That one was part of the challenge difficulty mission bonus.

My scavenging is 118%. There's a form on Reddit to try and track whether it's bugged. Some have given a hypothesis that it's dropping the leading digit (so 118% equals 18%).

I think my firearm score is around 2400. So if I ever get a HE gun, I should see a decent DPS increase. I'm sitting at 74k right now for my primary.

Btw, there's an excellent Android app out called "Battle Assistant". It allows you to use your phone screen to collect grenades and/or use consumables. Very nice, since I find using those to be cumbersome otherwise. Mobile Assistant For the Division

Got to 30 in the DZ, and looks like all the random drops I got are as good or better than what's on offer. Guess it's time to work that grind to 50 so I can snag the good stuff.

I'm DZ level 43 and I haven't spent a single DZ credit. Nothing from the DZ vendors is worthwhile. I'm picking up better stuff from drops.

Agreed. I'm DZ level 62, bought all the DZ Credit blueprints when I hit 50 and only used them for a few days before my gear was surpassing them. The Tech Wing and DZ06 Vendors are your ultimate resource for Blueprints. Just know it begins the Phoenix Credit / Division Tech grind in earnest.

Since some have asked earlier in this thread. Just as a PSA, there seems to be a growing number of hackers and it's gaining traction on Reddit. I've come across a few in my limited experience in the DZ. The hypothesis is that the glitch farming was keeping them busy and now that it has been patched, they're returning to the DZ.

Although they moved the ammo count to server-side, they left the rate of fire client side (wtf?), so it allows people to dump an entire mag at once. .. Hence why many run an M60+200rnd. I'm thinking player location is also client side.

Current Hacks:
- Aimbot
- ROF
- Teleportation

Obviously, aimbots are difficult to tackle since it's usually a local program using a bit of computer vision to snap the cursor. That follows more of a virus/definition (cat & mouse) style of fix (it gets released, anti-cheat company roles out a detect mechanism, rinse-repeat).

The ROF is downright brutal. I saw a single guy mow 4 people down with in in < 1sec. Teleportation is being used to grief (going into walls) and grab DivTech.

DZ credits can be used to purchase HE weapons/armor/gear from the safe house vendors in 3-5, which can then be turned into HE crafting material, cost 8-12k for 2 materials. Not a total waste.

I see someone else has been browsing Reddit as well. ;)

Wow, the DZ today was a wasteland, groups of roving rogues. I just had to stop playing, it was stupid. Rogue groups of 15 or more just wiping out the entire DZ.../sigh I was hoping it wasn't going to become this game...

the infinitely regenerating healing hack was posted to the reddit forum to force a fix. essentially you craft a mask with 2% healing under status effects then flashbang yourself. :(

On top of that the base of operations vendor is currently selling a HE mask with that talent equipped. I haven't bothered trying to roll one of my masks for it, figure it will be fixed soon enough.

Must have been the same group that kept killing me right at the checkpoint to get into the DZ. Level 10 and had a quest to go there and since I was in there, wanted to explore some but didn't get too far for the rogue players. Did get to DZ lvl 3 before leaving.

So for those that way higher geared that me, what kind of gear should you expect to be in to start challenge modes? Right now I can ROFLSTOMP hard mode 30s without any trouble, I'm at around 103/60/?? (not really paying attention to the electronics stats, all superior except for Midas and HE kneepads), and I want to start hitting the challenge modes without being a burden. I know it's essentially a bulletspongefest, I just want to carry my weight.

103/60 is good enough for challenge missions. I had 80ish/45 when I first started doing challenge missions and no one said anything. I also never felt like I wasn't helping.

i agree with PureBooYah you should be good to go. i started Challenge modes at around 80/60/10 all purple gear and did fine. i wasn't breezing through them but i got through ok*. They get quite a bit easier as you (and the people you're grouped with) level up your gear. Now it's rare for me to die in one as long as i'm with a semi decent group. i'm not significantly higher in stats (i'm around 120/80/14) but I've been focusing on optimizing talents, perks and armor which has made a pretty big difference.

*aside from the Russian Consulate and WarrenGate Power Plant. when i first started Challenge modes those were a serious challenge for me. which is the point i suppose :)

I've heard unhappy things about the Power Plant, especially with the timer. o_O

yeah, powerplant, was doing that, 8 minutes to beat the waves. We finally managed to do 3 but nothing happened. Timer elapsed, 4th came out. Everyone dropped out after that one.

Did challenging w/ a buddy who just hit 30 the other day. His gear was crap, but we went through the daily w/o to much team death involved :D

I remember this one. I was thinking once we got done with the third wave, that should be it. Nope.

a change log is up. the 4/12 release has also been discussed on their twitch channels.

In the log we have this gem:
Increased costs for converting crafting materials and crafting High-End items: 10 Standard (Green) materials instead of 5 to craft 1 Specialized (Blue) material 15 Specialized (Blue) materials instead of 5 to craft 1 High-End (Gold) material 10 High-End (Gold) materials instead of 8 to craft 1 lvl 31 High-End (Gold) item

Changed deconstruction yield of Standard (Green) and High-End (Gold) items: Deconstructing a Standard (Green) item yields 1 Standard material instead of 2 Deconstructing a High-End (Gold) item yields 1 High-End material instead of 2

basically all gear is going to become obsolete, and then crafting new gear is going to become a pain.

On the positive side some blueprints will be added, others will be moved to HQ to remove the divtech requirements.

a change log is up. the 4/12 release has also been discussed on their twitch channels.

In the log we have this gem:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but why are they making the gear grind even more excruciating than it already is?

Recalibrating High-End items will now cost normal Credits instead of Phoenix Credits

nice! something to use all my credits on. i think i have around 900K at the moment.

Added new level 31 and 32 High-End items Blueprints to Vendors
Removed Division Tech requirements from some level 31 High-End Blueprints

i won't be crafting a damn thing until the 1.1 Update is released. time to hoard phoenix credits and crafting materials.

Fixed an exploit where players could ignore the fire rate of certain weapons

glad to see this, sounds like they're fixing the ROF exploit.

overall some really great fixes and additions. they're doing a great job supporting the game as far as i'm concerned.
