Science Channel Reviving 'MythBusters,' Seeking Hosts Via Reality Series

Please tell me this is some kind of a joke. I mean, this just sounds too goofy to be true. Then again, this is a great way to get hosts that will work for a fraction of what Adam and Jamie were probably getting for the last few seasons of MythBusters.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively that the Discovery-owned cable network has greenlighted a reality competition series titled Search for the Next MythBusters, which comes on the heels of the series finale for the original show in early March. MythBusters, which ran for 14 seasons, featured Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman using science to put various myths and rumors to the test. Search will focus on finding an "all-new generation of myth-busting science superstars with mind-blowing build skills and nerves of steel." It will involve both social media and stunts as it tests a cast of hopefuls on their skills as they compete in various challenges.
 
I want to make a longer response, but "no" is good enough.
 
A reality show to find new hosts? This is exactly why I ditched satellite. This is FAR from belonging on the Science Channel or Discovery Channel.
 
I'm just going to repeat what I said on another site: This sounds horrible. What made Mythbusters work was Adam and Jamie. The way they worked together and their combined decades worth of experience working on special effects. They also had Jamie's shop, with a huge amount of materials they could repurpose either from old myths or from old special effects work. You get a bunch of 20-25 year old kids on the show, with only a few years of professional experience each, it's going to kill what made Mythbusters special. Starting this all off with a freaking "reality" show makes it feel even more forced and fake. If they wanted to keep Mythbusters as a thing and bring in new faces they should have kept Adam and Jamie on and have them mentor a new group of people who could eventually go off and do their own thing. Make it an actual passing of the torch thing instead of a cynical cash in.

At least the original 3 have their own show coming this Winter. This is just awful. Mythbusters IS Adam and Jamie. I just can't imagine it otherwise. They should just let it go. Discover is a shit channel now anyway. Between all the dumb shit reality shows? Fuck that channel.
 
If they want to resurrect a show make it Junkyard Wars!

They should not mess with MythBusters, it is too amazing to have it be watered down as a competition.
 
I would guess BBC used the same logic for top gear. That whole spat was the excuse to do it. I would expect would be easier to find 2 people to replace jamie and adam then 3 top gear guys.
 
And on tonight's program...

"Can you replace the entirety of the iconic staff and not have it suck like your grandfather's ballsack"

I loved top gear -- but have you kept up with what's happening on the new show? Apparently Chris Evans is the new pussy poster child for lazy dickhead who doesn't actually care about his job or cars. Clarkson was a workaholic, and an ass, but a funny one. Evans? Just some pompus guy who thinks a 4 hour work day is "hard" and doesn't know crap about cars.



If they think they can duplicate Mythbusters... they are wasting their time. The show worked because those guys (even though they didn't like each other) loved the work itself. A reality show to find the new mythbusters, all you are going to get are wannabes who are after the fame itself. Obviously Adam Savage is more camera friendly, but neither of them at the end of the day really gave a damn if they were famous or not, and that matters.
 
they killed Mythbusters when they fired the B team....Tory Grant and Kari. My guess is that those guys were getting more popular and they were not going to have them steal their show.

I think they've had 2 or 3 knockoffs already that have evaporated.
 
Yeah! A show with even more cut-aways, context changes and commercial breaks then Mythbusters! What can go wrong?
 
must be an april fools joke. apart from having run out of myths imho the hosts were somewhat irreplaceable, rather like some classic tv shows were the actors made the show good. still wouldn't mind a new series of scrapheap challenge.
 
They can do a show alright, but why try to graft the history of mythbusters to it.. That doesnt make sense. Mythbuster can go on hiatus for years and it adam jamie want to revive it, maybe then they can work something... Tory grant and kelly? Were ok too... I havent seen science channel but discovery was pretty terrible last I bothered to look.. Its not like theres a lack of science to discuss... I get most of it in typically poorly written articles, sometimes i try to read the abstracts if i can... Which is why i know so many articles are poorly written.

Oh so much this. I LOVED Junkyard Wars. My favorite episode is when they had to build real flying airplanes.
 
Great. They may as well just call it "Nutshots Weekly"

Amazing in that their physics explanations were often wrong....and most of the time it was less myth-busting and more "random impossible crap someone on the internet claimed happened that no thinking person would believe to start with".
 
Why not re-hire Tory, Kari, and Grant? I mean, seriously, I'm pretty sure they'd do it and people would love it.
