I do love Forza -- but I really don't feel like coughing up another $25 so I can use my Xbox one controller on the PC (I know I can get it to work for free in wired mode, but who really wants that?)
because that USB cable that you already have for charging your wireless keyboard or "smart" device is such a hindrance while sitting at a desk.
real question will be to what degree they support multiple panels and resolutions as well wheel setups.
I hope that the PC versions wont be gimped down versions of the XBox1 version.
To be fair, that "gimped" version is also free.
The real test will be quantum break.
Graphics /resolution will also be a big question mark. The Xbox version is already 1080 and 60fps using forward rendering . It will remain a significant title for consoles, so I don't know how much they will try to expand what's possible for PCs at the expense of making their core market look worse.
One F2P demo is not indicative of a trend. If anything, the trend so far is full fledged releases on both platforms with Gears of War, Killer Instinct, and the forthcoming Quantum Break. That trend is already set with the 6-track <30 car Forza Apex on PC.
PCG: Why do that specifically? Why make the free curated version rather than just Forza 6?
We’re very transparent on this one. We shipped Forza 6 obviously in the fall on Xbox One, and the team started to look at could they build a 4K version of Forza with the assets that they had, because they capture and build their cars and tracks at very high resolutions. With their engine they were already supporting DirectX, obviously, from Xbox, so they were able to bring up the engine and bring up the assets, and show something that frankly when you see it is just stupidly stunning. It looks great. But we don’t think Forza 6 is what the PC racing fan thinks of as a racing franchise. If you look at the racing franchises that are on PC today and do incredibly well, they’re not, kind of, $60 shrinkwrapped products the way we built Forza 6.
This is a good example of, you know, I’m not trying to make all games the same everywhere you go. So we're going to learn. We’re going to put Apex out there and people are going to give us feedback about what they like and what they don’t like. I wouldn’t say it’s a model for how we would do PC Forza in the future, but it’s a great opportunity for us to get it in the hands of people, allow them to play—as you said, it’s free, so we’re not charging people to go play it—and get the feedback from the PC gaming community around here’s what they like and here’s what they don’t like. I think we have something to offer, because I think we have—frankly this is a boast—but I think we have one of the best racing studios on the planet in Turn 10. But we didn’t build Forza 6 with the idea that it would go to PC, so instead of kind of creating the wrong experience for the PC community that’s there, we chose to do something less expensive for the customer and, to be honest, an experiment by us on what we could do.
No one has ever released a game like Forza on the PC, so how can he say something like that? Did they ever bother to do any market research on a PC version of Forza? I can't begin to count how many times I've seen people online wishing for a game like Forza or Gran Turismo to be released on the PC.So it has no multiplayer and no wheel support. It is indeed a free beta. They are really trying to make it seem like they are going to do it properly. If the quote below came from Turn10 instead of Phil Spencer then it could be taken a little more seriously. The no multi gpu turns out was untrue. They do still have vsync issues but thats being worked on and its a UWP issue. Getting anxious for this to come out.
More like MS wants to push UWP and doing so with a huge, well known, respected, and until know, forbidden, franchise makes since. This move isn't going to help Xbox sales and they know it.Xbox One not selling as they'd like, need more units to compete for exclusives? Colour me surprised.
To honest I fully expect the game to be closed off. This prevents issues with cheating and creating advantages with glitches. Turn10 has become VERY aggressive with glitches/bugs/cheaters on the XBL environment so I don't think cheaters will be to much an issue. That being said, there are some elements of Forza that are not going to play well with the PC crowd. the PI system is the core of the balance and what allows it to work. that's going to mean the game is going to have be fairly closed off, which is going to piss off a vocal minority that can't understand why Mods won't be allowed. I am also quite worried about cheaters that now have a lot more freedom to play with on the PC vs the console. you thought Turn10's FM3 AWD glitch was bad, its not going to be a drop compared to what could come out of the PC world.
Those who want those things should jump in and play Apex. Its basically an open beta. Voice your concerns and suggestions to help them make a better game.Another factor is I don't think Turn 10 is prepared for the level of customization the PC sim crowd expects these days. We want to disable the wheel/arms models, maybe wheel-only to match wheel rotation, adjustable cockpit views and FOV, per-car shifter selection (sequential vs. H pattern,) customizeable FFB and the list goes on. I don't think they'll ever get it to that level that we are used to on PC right now.
