Amazon.com - Bissell 86T3/86T3Q Big Green Deep Cleaning Professional Grade Carpet Cleaner Machine - Carpet Steam Cleaners

the big green is going for 300 again!

I own it and love it minus one thing. You can't use water above 140 degrees. I have tested this on 2 units...a part breaks because it is merely super glued and super glue with detergent breaks down at 140-150 degrees. Also the hose can't use anything hotter than 130-140 too because it'll break.

It is by far the best carpet cleaner besides 100% professional. My uncle has special professional machines and this thing does a close to those jobs. Not as good but damn close. I have jerry rigged mine to use 190 degree water since my carpet were trash and 190 degree water does make a very tangible difference. I'll post pictures later on what breaks at that temp.

For 300 this is a great deal especially if you got dogs and high traffic areas on your carpet.

EDIT you can see the flow indicator and regulator is the weak spot* and the super glue breaks down with very hot water. A really dumb design because 170-190 degrees makes a difference on super soiled carpets. You can see where I tried a certain tube and it kinda blew up :D I found that a thick vinyl from home depot works and can withstand the heat and pressure well enough....its not rated for that temp or pressure but it has survived with some effort ~40 uses. You could transplant the spare tubing from the flow indicator and bypass if you wanted to but its more work and harder to "fix" back to normal to warranty it. My method works for the most part so I can put it back to normal in ~20 mins to RMA it if needed.

You can also just not use super hot water....but i rather overclock my carpet cleaner

If you buy it and want more details on how to jerry rig it just PM me. I can take more photos if needed. It won't be anytime soon due to i am very busy over the next week or two before i leave the country for a month.

2-part epoxy to replace the superglue (nothing fancy).

Reinforced polypropylene tubing for the high temperature stuff.

Neither are probably worth the cost:benefit.

Out of stock? "Order now and we'll notify you by email when we have an estimated delivery date for this item. " Should I order and get it delivered whenever and will they still be charging 299 + tax? Or will the price adjust and I'll get it in like 3 months?

if you pay 299 now it will be that price whenever they get more in stock because u already payed. It normally retails around 380-460 so it will go up ion price tomorrow. use camel camel camel.com to see the price history.

if you plan on buying it buy it now and wait for it to ship otherwise you'll pay probably 100 more if you buy later

Bought it for $287 and it is a nice unit. I think the hose sucks especially the sprayer part but everything is nice. Haven't tried using super hot water.

don't unless you do my bypass. It will break. Happened on two units. The second unit is where i figured out why and how it broke. I didnt want to return it again so i just did the bypass.

How does this compare to hiring profesional carpet cleaners?
depends.

My uncle uses special sponges that work really well and leave the carpet 100% dry.

This machine leaves carpets fairly dry and depending on how you air is and what not it can take 1-4 hours to dry which is really good. Depends on how much if any pretreatment spray and how many/slow passes you do.

I was able to get ride (mostly) of a stain that even my uncle would have struggled to remove. He could have done a bit of better job but not by a whole lot. It was a pain to remove though. Lots of pretreatment and a good bit of focus. The spot was horrible bare in mind. My dad puts his shoes on there every day and night and it hasn't been cleaned in 5-7 years so the spot was very dark. Note I used pretreatment and 190 degree water on that spot though. If would not have gotten out as well if you use 130-140 degree water.

This also takes a while. It isn't a very fast process. Its a home machine and not a pro machine that has a very wide area of use. If your carpet is lightly dirty is pretty quick but if you use 10-15 things of clean water on a 15x20 room it takes a couple to few hours. Again its the room where we all watch TV with 2 dogs. So its a very high traffic area.

A big thing is proper pretreatment. You need to know what oxy, enzyme, and the like are and how to use them for pretreatment. Also know what hydrogen peroxide is aswell. I would safe if you go all out with 190 degree water, pretreatment, and so on you can nearly match even the best pro stuff but that requires some bypassing of tubes and extra work.

For a home machine its great if you plan on cleaning your carpet bi annually or quaterly. Depends on how much you mess up your carpets. Some people are good with an annual cleaning. Depends on the room.

It all comes down to your time and money. Does doign it for 1/4-1/2 the cost and whenever you want to matter to you? Do you got the time?

EDIT: oh also this machine has one downfall. The brush spins all the time if the handle is not upright. This causes unneed wear when your trying to dry the carpet. You can not the handle up so that the brush stops spinning and exhaust heat and suction still work but the machine no longer glides easily. Thats the only issue besides not being able to use super hot water.

Any who its the best machine you can get without buying a 5-10K pro machine.

BTW this is what my uncle uses.

Hope this helps.

I decided to grab one yesterday, just to try it out. It's Amazon after all. Unless they have some special provisions against returning this item, we can just try it out in our homes and see how we like it. Both myself and my parents have carpeted floors, so cleaning them up with this wouldn't exactly be a bad idea. I don't really care to get out hardcore stains (not that I'm really aware of any honestly) so much as I'd just like to keep the place sanitary (considering that's where I do my pushups...), so for me it's mainly just about actually cleaning the carpet in general. I'm not gonna bother heating or any crap like that. We'll see how it works out; should be here Tuesday.

let me know how it works. You can get boosters that help with cleaning and smell tool. Its basically surfactants, peroxide(IIRC), and other misc stuff like smells. The boosters also add some good smells too. 3 or 4 kinds exist.

Bissell website sometimes have really good deals so check them out to compare prices on detergent.

They also have this craneberry one that smells really good.

Also double check on how much you add. they really only sell 2x concentrate so it confusing on how much you add. I measured it out once and i forgot if the book assumed 1x or 2x. Should have wrote it down :/

I have had good luck with the $350 Rug Doctor they sell at Costco from time to time.

big green is overall better. I do have another beef with it though....well its a pro and con.

The machine uses very little water to do the job which is a pro overall except when you are dealing with heavily solid carpets and want to actually apply a lot of solution to get deeper down. I wish they had two flow rates. One that was higher flow and one that was default like it is. On bad carpets i go super slow to get good saturation. When you use this you will marvel on how well it works with using almost no water but when you hit a carpet that has not been cleaned in years and is very dirty you will hate how little it uses because you'll spend forever doing that super dirty carpet.

Add me to the list of "Big Green Egg for $300!!!" but then again the weight of that thing would cost $300 for shipping!

Every single Bissell carpet cleaner I've ever owned or used has been a giant piece of crap. About the only thing that was at least halfway worth a damn was the original 'Little Green Clean Machine', and that's only because it had portability working in it's favor. I'd have a hard time plunking down the discounted price of $300, let alone whatever it is they normally cost.

I see it thanks. Ill watch the video tonight, just saw your update now. Did you get all the parts at home depot for the pipes and connections? I see some silicone tubing that will do up over 200degrees made out of silicone.

you need good PSI too. I tried some high temp stuff but it exploded hahaha (it was like 500F but 10 PSI). The vynel works fairly well but you need to RTV or super glue it and be careful how hard you tighten stuff especially on the plastic part. You want to support the plastic part as you tighten so it doesn't move. I did another 10 loads with no issue so i am well over 50 times since the last time i had to fix it. Just don't break anything and make sure you can make it look normal again to RMA it if you need too :D Down the road if you RMA it make sure next time you use super hot water you do the bypass first :D.

It was like 70F 55PSI (IIRC). That was the highest vynel homedepot had but it seems to hold up well but it'll leak if you don't seal the tubing and connectors. I had to get a fastener like this from HD. 7HS44XX - Z-FLEX 7HS44XX - 3" Z-Vent Gear Clamp

You need to get the smallest one. You might luck out and you don't need that but mine had 2 different fasteners and i had to replace one because it required a special tool to rehook. Also if you have to get a fastener like that you will have to fully tighten it and reform it a bit so it stay in a circle. Sorry I don't have time to fully disassemble it before i leave. I tried to be as detailed as possible. The 4K was overkill and was kinda pointless but i had to play with the camera :D 4K looks bad in a dim basement :D

I'll be flying to CA tomorrow night but i'll be around on these forums so let me know if you need any talk through.

I bought a coupel different hoses to find the right size. No clue what the actual final size was but i have this in an email so its a start.
