Galaxy S7 / S7 Edge

I'd consider doing the factory reset (wipe everything from recovery) and then disable and/or remove every possible bloat again. Something is clearly churning the battery.

There is something on your phone causing the problem and not the phone itself. 60%+ Android System and OS is waaaay off. It has to be coding something weird on the phone. You just have to figure out what it is. Maybe the battery life isn't the best, but you'll never know with stuff like that going on.

I remember reading that apps weren't going to be allowed to hide behind "Android OS" or "Android System" in Marshmallow. I haven't had an issue with it on my M8, but it's ridiculous on my wife's GS6. I see there isn't much hope for Samsung fixing it in the Marshmallow update either if it's still doing it on the S7.

Yeah the problem is finding out what. It's surprising no one has quite figured out just what is causing it yet, as there are a bunch of threads and posts over at XDA of people having the same problem.

The wife just sent me a screenshot from the battery page again. the last ones were from Sunday. This one is from today's use.

I suggest you return/exchange your phone. If you do exchange your phone, and this happens again, return the phone and get something else. Makes things a whole lot simplier.

Probably ought to close all that shit too. Turn off WiFi since you aren't using it. Get rid of the weather stuff. Turn off bluetooth. Stop app updates, etc. Probably want to reset it and try it from scratch. Disable stuff you don't use. I'm surprised people posting here would run their phones like this. Looks like a customer's phone haha

Those steps shouldn't do anything. AAMOF using wifi should save battery a bit, compared to surfing on LTE. If those steps are needed to get a good battery life...then the OS is crap from the factory.

Seriously, I get better life on my Nexus 6 with vanilla Android and not even trying to optimize battery life.

No one said they're needed, but why would you leave WiFi on if you aren't connecting to WiFi? That's a total waste of battery. Same goes for anything else. If you aren't using some connection, then turn it off.

That's not the source of the battery problem, but might as well do it anyway.

It's my wife's phone.

But regardless of that fact, she got more than double the battery life out of her G2 completely non optimized on a stock rom with facebook installed on it.

I shouldn't HAVE to turn off a bunch of things to get halfway decent battery.

If it's still like this by the weekend I'll be taking it back into a Verizon store.

Did anyone order thier S7 and have it take a long time for delivery? I ordered my S7 edge last week and the delivery date is the 25th. Wtf?

Carrier is AT&T if it matters.

Again, I think you misread what I said. Leaving things on isn't the problem, but you should turn them off anyway.

I just see this stuff everyday. People whining about their battery but not doing anything about it. The phone could be defective, but how do you know if you don't even try anything. Reset the phone. Run it in safe mode, disable stuff, etc. Figure out what the problem is instead of trying to blame the S7 Edge. Maybe it does have shit battery and its not a good phone. Return it then. At least you'll know it was the phone and not something you did to it.

I don't expect any of the big 4 will sell it. Buy an unlocked one. I think it will cover all the U.S. bands (though I could be wrong).

No way will Xiaomi ever support US CDMA. In so far as I know no Chinese manufacturer ever has. Even if they did VZW would give you hell trying to activate the thing.

This is true.

This is not completely true. Verizon will let you use any unlocked phone on their network if it supports their bands, providing you already have an active SIM on their network. If you want to activate a new phone/SIM on their network though, it may be an issue if it's not a phone they sell through their stores themselves. But if you get a rep or tech that isn't a total moron (which admittedly is kinda rare), all they have to do is activate your SIM in any other Verizon phone, then you can swap it into your unlocked phone. This is what a friend of mine had to do when the Moto X Pure first launched.

True. And, as a former Verizon rep I know better... should've been clear there were relatively easy work-arounds.

Also, unrelated, but there's actually a way to disable the "quick connect" portion of the pull-down shade. You have to pull down the shade, hit the "down arrow" in the top right corner of the screen, then edit just beside the "up arrow" it becomes. At the bottom of the resulting screen there's a toggle switch to disable the "quick connect" option appearing. After that hit done and you're good.

The only thing I now wish you could do is make the quick toggle tiles / icons smaller, and eliminate the text beneath them. Then I'd be fine with TouchWiz. Well... fine with the few parts I haven't already replaced.

Now I just have to figure out why the hell Android System is showing over 1000mAh of battery usage over the last 11 and a half hours (35% of total usage), when screen is only showing 521mAh with 3 hours and 40 minutes of on time. I purchased Package Disabler Pro, did some reading and went to town. Hopefully tomorrow it'll be more reasonable.

The results of two days messing with this thing:

That's with 5 hours and 17 minutes of screen on time. If I can get the background / bullshit "Android System" usage down I bet I can get 7-8 hours screen time, easy. Disabled a bunch of stuff with Package Disabler Pro and will continue to slash and burn tomorrow if it doesn't drop considerably.

Running Apex Launcher with the Stark icon pack, the Android 6.0 theme to re-skin/color the pull-down and setting menu, and Adguard local VPN for ad blocking. Since replaced the app drawer shortcut in the bottom middle with Discord, and put Amazon Prime Music (its default icon fits with the theme and it's the only "premium" music service I have for the moment) where Discord was. Also turned off the edge thing, as I find the tab annoying and pretty much never use it.

I doubt it's the hardware much, although I would prefer the international exynos hardware so I would get dual sim phones. I think it's unoptimized TouchWiz and whatever carrier crap that's spying on you for advertising companies. The exynos does have a higher clockspeed, but not so much that it takes seconds less to open apps.

Could well be hardware.

Not just the SoC is different...odds are they sourced different NAND and RAM.

The SD820's GPU is superior. No offense, but I'll believe it when I see it from an English-speaking reviewer at bare minimum.

I like how you said no offense and then proceeded to offend all people who can't speak English well as untrustworthy... Xp

That's really funny, Android has had support for this type of scaling for quite a while. I'm glad OEM's are starting to give you options to adjust it.

Well looks like that bootloader isn't getting unlocked.

Prepare for the Note 6 to be the same way.

Really wish some other manufacturer would bring out something similar to the Note line, because I really don't want to deal with a locked-down Android device unless Samsung completely ditches TouchWiz.

Been using my Note 4's stylus to digitally sign documents (on stock and CM roms), and I can't see myself not using a stylus.

Damn Samsung, at least give me the option to buy an unlocked device, or a locked one with stock Android.

So, an update to my wife's S7 that was getting 10.5 hours of battery with 2.5 hours of SOT. Galaxy S7 / S7 Edge

I had already ran package disabler, and uninstalled facebook, but it didn't seem to help. The final setting that I changed that seemed to be the game changer was turning off Smart Alert in the phones advanced settings. I saw a few threads on reddit about it, so i turned it off. And well.... all of a sudden this phone is amazing. And this is even with facebook reinstalled.

I guess it's possible the phone settled down, FINALLY, after having it for an entire week, but almost immediately after turning off smart alert, it started lasting longer.
I plan on turning it back on in a few days for a couple days just to see what happens, but the phone is not going back.

Got the girlfriend an upgrade on Thursday and got her an S7 edge. Played with it a lot over the weekend. It's a beast of a phone. GF is a moderate to heavy user and after several consecutive 15-16 hour days, she's ending the every day with nearly 50% battery life. Haven't done exact testing yet but this phone likely gets 5 to 6 hours SOT easily without any tweaks. Really nice phone. She's very happy with it.

Why the hell would you ever re-install the Facebook app? Use the website and you could add another hour or more of screen on time.

Right now my S7 Edge is down 7% with 6.5 hours on battery and a little more than 40 minutes screen on time at around 3/4 brightness.

I'm confident I can do better with some tweaking. Kills me we can't get CM / AOSP on these things. Great hardware, terrible software as usual.

Thanks Samsung.

It's my wife's phone, I'm not getting in her way of her and Facebook. it's what give me time to browse the internet and play games. Also she likes the additions the app give you over just the browser.

Thanks for that tip, I'm going to try it on my wife's GS6 as well. This thing is worse than her GS4 before it and stays awake constantly while just sitting. I'm pretty sure it would die within 12 hours without touching it or turning the screen on the whole time, it's that bad and I've already factory reset it and installed minimal apps for her, excluding Facebook and making her use it through the browser.

Starting to get irked by all the things you cant do without root:
-Cant hide carrier logo in status bar
-Cant get unread count notifications over gmail / messages app in google now launcher
-Cant delete some bloatware apps (T-mobile app lookin at you)

I'd get the nexus if it wasnt for samsung pay and the fact that the edge fad is kind of cool. If they would just let you customize the shit out of the phone in the various advanced settings menus then it wouldn't be a huge deal.

Package Disabler Pro doesnt let you disable the Tmobile app?

Yes it does! Thought that would require root to install and didnt even bother. Thanks!

Now if only I could get rid of the stupid samsung phone dialer app and use the default google dialer. They made a huge stink about how T-Mobile and Orange France or whatever were one of the few carriers that were compatabile with its visual voice mail feature. But of course when I go to the play store it says "not available on your device"

Yeah there are still a few software annoyances for me to. I'm ready for the next compact device now.. Over this one.. It's a bummer the g5 is so big. It would be a serious contender if it was more compact and had qi charging.

I picked one up coming from an iPhone 6.

I really like everything about the phone, and would love it if it weren't for all the software issues i've found. Something with this phone or android 6 is causing many games to just run like crap. Given the hardware specs of the phone it shouldn't have any issues - But it does. Some games are completely unplayable as well like XCOM. Most games are just a stutter fest and my iPhone 6 ran them better. Really unfortunate, and it's making me consider returning the phone and hanging onto the iphone 6 until the iphone 7.

Great build quality, great camera, great specs - But the software optimization is so poor that it's a major turn off.

Welcome to Samsung, where 124124 cores and 2329409238gb of RAM run worse than a phone from 4 years ago.

Samsung pay? I dunno if that will ever pickup... I have never even used android pay. Plus if you root your phone, bye bye samsung pay. Don't drink the cool-aid, do you want a good overall experience of a buttload of 1/2 assed features and specs on a software crippled device?
