Dark Souls 3

6 of Dark Souls 3's Deadliest Looking Armor and Weapon Sets...

Very cool looking weapons! Looks like there's some unique moves, like the constant charge thing for that lance, and even dual wielding movesets! Looks really fun.

They coulda done way better on the witch tree branch thing though.. the magic should cast from the tip!

I'm loving the speed shown in that video. After playing DS1 lately, it looks like it's running at 2/3 speed compared to that video. I don't want the series to become overly spazzy, but some speed is 100% welcome. It just takes some of the tedium out of normal running around and fighting basic enemies.

I don't have a real frame of reference, but the speed shown in that video seems pretty natural, and compares favorably with a lot of the games I like in similar genres.

I agree with everyone that the weapons and armor look totally bad-ass in that video...Bloodborne lacked variation and everyone looked and played the same...I'm glad DS3 is bringing back the unique gear and weapons along with Bloodborne's faster pace

I tried to play through DS2 at least once before DS3 comes out. I still can't do it... It just feels so bad for some reason. So I went back and started yet another character in DS1.

What exactly were the major differences (gameplay-wise) from Dark Souls 1 to 2? There was definitely a slightly different "feel" to it, and the slow weapons tended to allow you to re-direct them mid-swing, but I dunno if I was ever good enough to point out anything else.

Everything has a floaty nature to it, like your inputs are not very precise. In DS1 you could be sure that, barring the occasional queuing bug, when you did something it happened with immediacy. In DS2 your inputs feel more like general suggestions. The overall game mechanics I can acclimate to, but with the input I just feel like I am going to get more and more frustrated as I progress through the game.

The bosses in DS1 had absolute move tracking. If you did not roll precisely you would get smacked. In DS2, not so much. They commit and then you can move away.

I need to try playing the Dark Souls games one day with a Steam Controller. XBOX controller is trash designed to hurt my hands, and the keyboard layout was designed by a buffoon. I have hundreds of hours watching others play on Twitch though. :)

agreed...the magic coming from the center is a strange design choice

that's not enjoyment, that's torture :D ...watching somebody else play an amazing game would not be fun at all for me...I wouldn't bother, but that's me I guess

I find it fun to watch people who are playing for the first time. Its the closest thing I'm going to get to playing it for the first time again for myself.

I always thought the magic was coming from your hand and the branches and shit where just and instrument. This is going to drive me crazy now :p

while that would look cool the problem is in the aiming, if you were doing a no-lock fire then your aim would be off coming up from an angle, thus center of body

still no PC Collector's Edition available in the USA??...there's not even a standard boxed version available on Amazon, only a digital code

game comes out on next Thursday for Japan (PS4/XBone)
i don't know if i can wait until April 12th for NA release

I want to replay 1 of the Souls games before Dark Souls 3 but can't decide between Dark Souls 1 or Bloodborne...DS3 will be closer to Bloodborne in terms of speed and gameplay but I want to familiarize with kb/m layout again so maybe DS2 will be the best choice...might just go with DS1 out of nostalgia

I wonder if a lot of people (outside of Japan) are actually going to buy the Japanese version instead of waiting 3 weeks for the international release

I continued my journey through the first game over the weekend. The Anor Londo archers are still a total pain. I think I finally made it on the 6th or 7th try.
Ornstein and Smough were surprisingly not that bad. I actually solo-killed them on the first try, but backed off from killing Smough because I forgot super-Ornstein drops the Leo Ring. After realizing that, I think I beat them on the 3rd or 4th attempt. Super-Smough is definitely the easier of the two.
I'm now at the level where I can make the "ruins run" to farm souls and slabs without too much trouble. In general, humanoid opponents aren't much trouble when you can circle them or flatten them with the jumping club shots.
I remember hating the Tomb of Giants and the area of the Archives with the invisible platforms...but here I go. I've got a +15 giant club with their name on 'em.

^^ What is this "ruins run" of which you speak?

It's the new Londo Ruins. After you drain the water, it's a very easy place to farm souls, Titanite Chunks and even the occasional Titanite Slab from the Darkwraiths.
You enter that area from the front (down the Firelink elevator) and make an immediate left. It's down the first very indoor elevator before you get swarmed by ghosts.
At the bottom of that elevator is a series of Darkwraiths and an area that makes a big circle. I think there are 10'ish Darkwraiths in total. They drop chunks regularly and give you something like 1500 souls each. You can make a run of it, killing them all, and then returning back to the elevator in less than 10 minutes.
If you're looking to boost your gear, that's the best place in the whole game to do it. You don't get as many souls as the woods or Anor Londo, but the constant flow of chunks is unmatched.

Awesome! Thanks, Domingo. I was looking for a good spot to bring up the quality of my other Katanas so I can swap them more freely based on the situation. Maybe i'll actually get some bonuses to gear too, that'd probably help.

uh, you are doing it wrong.

try this instead. I am skipping the one around the corner of the church, you have to deal with ghosts there

That's literally the same thing, he's just cutting maybe 10 seconds off by not going down the elevator (and going in a slightly different order) :p

looks like a lot of people are indeed buying the Japanese version...I'm going to have to go into super-lockdown mode to avoid spoilers...no DS3 threads on other forums, streams or any videos of any kind

people have been telling me to absolutely not watch the Japanese launch trailer as there are some amazing things shown...so I will avoid...

The official Japanese site for Dark Souls 3 has put up some PC system requirements for the game...On Steam, the game has had a set of system requirements for a while, but it had often been speculated that these were placeholders...here are the updated system requirements...

  • 8 GB RAM
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti / ATI Radeon HD 6870

I actually have not had any trouble with the Anor Londo archers in a long time. I just did my 17th or 18th run there in 3 weeks without dying.

Am I the only one who thinks Super Ornstein is easier than Super Smough? At least for melee-focused characters.

I think it's actually quicker to start from the bonfire in Darkroot Basin and running past the wyverns outside the Red Tearstone Ring tower through the now-open Seal. The route to hit all of the Darkwraiths is also more straightforward this way. If you need Dragon Scales this also adds a farming opportunity for those to the route.

Livestream of the PS4 Japanese version starts in a few minutes. Do not watch as he is literally going to play nonstop until he beats it.

manvsgame is an asshole, but thanks for the link I guess? He played through the first one offline like a pussy so he wouldn't get stream sniped, so wouldn't surprise me if he does the same in DS3.

Both Jim Sterling and Giant Bomb East, both while streaming and at home, have been having issues with the PC version randomly crashing on them. Doesn't seem to be something happening to everyone though and the release is still far enough away for them to fix things. It does seem to run really well though, as long as it doesn't crash.

the Nvidia logo seems to be displayed on the Japanese official site...hope this doesn't mean GameWorks
