My computer runs as slow as molasses and I think it may be partly due to my router. I'm using an AT&T 4111n router that I've had for a few years and I suspect this might be the problem. If this proves to be the case, what it the Fastest Router out there that you all can recommend? All responses will be greatly appreciated.

Why would you think it is the router and not anything or everything else local to the machine?

You would have to have some SERIOUS network congestion problems induced by poor configuration (running in Wifi-B mode) with lots of traffic to bog a network down such that only one computer is "slow as molasses". Your verbage strongly implies this is not a router-based networking problem to me.

What made me suspect my Router is that for one my router is over four years old. I have both my desktop and Laptop both connected to it and they both tend to have the same issues. I first suspected that I may have Malware issues, but after running Malwerebytes Anti Malware software and coming up clean, I still have the same problems

Computer running slow vs. having slow internet/network are two completely different things.

You need to run some speed tests from both systems while connected directly to the router to see if you're getting the speeds you're paying for. If connection speed is fine and it's the system that is slow a new router isn't going to help.

AT&T High Speed Internet Speed Test

It would also help if you could describe what you mean when you say that they are slow. Are they slow with delays while Internet browsing? In what instances are they slow?

They both take a very long Tim to move from screen to screen. After deeply considering what all of you have said, along with the fact that BOTH of these systems are over 4 years old, it may simply be tie that I replaced both computers.

My Linksys router is over 10 years old - network speeds are just fine. 100base-T throughput is still about 4 times faster than my ISP connection. Wireless runs at the 54Mbps within the network, and faces the same bottleneck of the ISP connection.

The Dlink before my Linksys is even older yet - still no problems. (modem>Dlink>Linksys) Dlink also routes to the kid's router for all his devices. I operate 3 networks within the house to separate the kid, from the old lady and myself, and for my work computers.

Routers are usually the LAST thing to cause a LAN speed issue.

Really depends on what you are doing I suppose. Steam In Home Streaming (Steam Link) crushes old 10/100 routers that can't handle the low latency traffic while other devices are on the network. In my house there is a big different going from an old router to a new one when Torrenting from one device and using another device for streaming. And no old router has the wireless range that I get from a newer AC1900 router, radio tech has evolved a lot in 10 years.

A lot of people bitch about the routing functions of the 4111N DSL router the OP has. It's a combo DSL modem and router.

you might want to try running a cleaner program to get rid of the junk on your computer. I use slimcleaner plus by slimware its 39 for 3 computers.

also I have a gaming router, if you are running more that one unit they do not bog down like a regular router.

I have a laptop, daughter has a laptop and ipad, wife had a kindle fire. and folks link to my wifi when using there smart phones in my house, I insist. we very seldom bog down.

my router is an asus and the n600 runs about 85 on amazon

System sounds like it has been owned. You need to stay away from the torrent sites my good man! :D

Reinstall Windows ON BOTH SYSTEMS, buy an antivirus subscription FOR BOTH, and stay away from the dark web, and things should be as good as new.
