What's going on over at BioWare lately? It sure seems like they are losing writers left and right. Anyone have any insight into the recent departures?

"I had a great time at BioWare, working with so many talented, passionate folks," Harris said in a tweet. "I'm grateful for everything you taught me over the years." Harris is the third notable departure from BioWare this year alone.

Writers leaving usually means creative differences and arguments with management about content.

Probably means she found a better job where her talents are more appreciated.

Huh to the above post. Am I missing something? Anyway, this can't be good.

I will tell you why EVERYONE AT BIOWARE IS TIRED OF EA'S SHIT... Likely they wanted to touch starwars and EA said nope

Mass Effect is their only announced project in development, isn't it? You don't need many writers for a game that's a year away from release. Assuming they have something in the works, it seems safe to say it won't be more Dragon Age.

I wonder if they'd try another mobile game now that Bethesda had success wtih one?

BioWare has been in a gradual decline ever since they were bought by EA. It was slow at first, but you could see the cracks starting to form around the time of ME3 (writer behind ME & ME2 left for SWTOR).

What? They plan to continue with Dragon Age, Patrick Weekes took over as the lead on it once David Gaider left.

Bioware has more than one studio, they have one in TX and one in Edmonton.

Don't forget about Bioware Montreal, which is the studio behind the upcoming Mass Effect game.

EA lock-in of top level employees expiring after the purchase.

I think that's pretty much it. Bioware evidently isn't a nice place to work for as a writer, so they're leaving as soon as they legally can.

I was gunna say this doesn't bode well for the next ME, but thinking about it, all the writing must've been done already. Doesn't bode well for the next ME...

I know on the SWTOR front, the heads of bioware left over creative differences, and on top of it, EA fired a lot of the original staff and changed producers (which is what led to the creators leaving - one retired and the other moved on to another company).

Really, EA ruined BioWare. Looking at SWTOR as a microcosm, they aren't even trying any more - they have this really horrid community manager in Eric Musco who threatens players or else just acts like a glorified marketer hyping the most stupid stuff up - totally tone deaf compared to the Community Managers of most gaming communities and MMOs.

The reality is BioWare is now a shit show. There's some good people there, but it absolutely is being mismanaged horribly, which is why I think people are jumping ship. From what I heard, the atmosphere is pretty toxic over there now as far as a work environment goes.

It's what happens when bean counters take over. You start making games based on how you to maximize profits instead of how to make the best product. Leads to shitty decisions and games. Your top creative people will leave because they are no longer part of the decision process as the almighty bean counter controls everything. Happens in every industry and is why big companies end up going to shit. Some MBA has to earn their salary by maximizing profits. They are successful for a year or 2 and get big fat bonuses and promotions, but it leads to the eventual breakdown of the company.
