New Mouse Time....

Sigh....

It seems like every mouse I buy tends to last less than a year (excluding Microsoft mice).

Either the left click starts double-clicking when it should single click or the scroll wheel goes out.

Yes, I've "invested" in several gaming mice but they never seem worth it.

I've had especially bad luck with Logitech developing sticky buttons within a few months.

Most recently, I've been using a Thermaltake Talon Blu: Tt eSPORTS TALON Blu USB Gaming Mouse - Newegg.com

Been great for right at a year. A little small (long piano fingers and lazy, palm mouse grip etc) but it has the two side buttons I require, the scroll wheel has a solid click, and the black and blue light color scheme matches the rest of my gear....

Alas, the dreaded double click when single click has sporadically started. :(

So, basically I'm open to new brand suggestions.

Budget is less than $40, 2 side buttons is a must, and it should be suited for someone with lanky fingers using a palm grip. (black color is preferred)

- For frame of reference, Microsoft IntelliMouse Optical 1.1A - Black - Newegg.com

I LOVE this mouse! I must have bought at least 4 of them but I'd prefer to try something new.

Lay it on me [H]

Thanks as always,

I really have not liked any mouse other than the Deathadder for the last 7-8 years. My first one lasted 4 years before the doubleclick issue but I really abused the hell out of that mouse. I am on a 2nd one so I really would recommend a Deathadder Chroma although it's a little over your budget. It's actually on sale for $54 on Amazon.

I'm in the same boat and have the same basic preferences as you op.
Currently looking at the Mionix mice although they are beyond your price range.
If you cant decide, its another option.

The castor looks excellent but only has 6 buttons, I hoped for a few more ready for when I get some VR goggles and cant see the keyboard.
I might still get it.
CASTOR
Mionix Castor Optical Gaming Mouse Review
It looks sweet.
As to the actual optical sensor, they chose the PWM-3310 IR-LED. This sensor can be adjusted from 50 to 10,000 DPI, and for an optical sensor that is freaking amazing. It can track movements at the rate of 5.45 meters per second, or roughly eighteen feet per second of hand jiving. There is no positive or negative acceleration in the device, and it does offer adjustable lift off distance as well.

They are even sure to show us exactly what the software offers as well. There are five profiles that are saved on the Castor, not in software. There is adjustable X/Y axis control, polling rate adjustments, Live Record Macro Manager, and a ton of LED color choices with various modes. There is adjustable angle snapping in fifteen levels, angle tuning to adjust for user offset by up to thirty degrees either way and even sports a Lift Off Distance tool that runs and calibrates that setting for you. There is a Surface Quality Analyzer Tool that will rate your mouse pad, and back to the LOD, you can manually set that if you wish as well, without the automated process.

Avoid Razer and Steelseries, I added a post here about them.
Have razers improved their quality?

Just an update, just picked up a Logitech M500 at Fry's (price matched down to $25).

We'll see how it works out....

I ordered the Mionix Castor and it would be the perfect mouse but the lack of buttons (only 6) was bugging me because I intend on using it with a VR headset which blinds you from the keyboard. More mouse buttons would be very handy.
And a fault requires to return the mouse to Sweden as they have no support in my Country.
So I cancelled and am now getting a Corsair Scimitar RGB which has 17 buttons lol. It has a great sensor too.
Support for Corsair is in Holland which is almost as much of a pita but I have some Corsair memory I'd like to return as well so I can kill 2 birds with 1 stone if its got a problem.

Well...... it's official that Logitech M500 is COMPLETE GARBAGE. (mouse pointer was studdery / rubberbanding etc)

Fuckkkkk Logitech, for good this time.

Returned it and grabbed another Thermaltake Talon Blu for $19. It'll do just fine for now....

(at least it does what it's supposed to do and for less than $20, I don't feel bad replacing it with another one after.... 14ish months)

I've had good experiences with Steelseries mice, specifically a Sensei I've been using for over 2 years with no noticeable degradation. My last Razer lasted 8 months. I've never had a Razer work correctly for more than a year.

I've been using the Corsair Scimitar RGB for a few days and it is fantastic.
I was at home with it almost immediately, it feels natural.

My only misgiving is the lack of buttons on the right of the mouse but the pad of 12 on the left makes up!
It takes a while to get used to them but after 2 days I'm almost there.
You of course have to choose which functions they have.
For now I have configured pgup/pgdn, forward/back and volume up/down.
Its easy to lift the mouse without pressing any side buttons, they are sturdy enough to lift it with just one button.

The software lets you configure a profile for each game for every feature the mouse has.
It loads the profile automatically once it is told the games executable.
Even alt tabbing in and out of the game switches to the right profile, its been flawless.
The software really is very good, rtfm for the win :p It can do an incredible amount.

The tracking is superb.
I'm using mine on a sofa. Movement is very smooth and immediately responsive.
The feel of the mouse is excellent, the fact it weighs more than most mice doesnt seem to matter and it feels sturdier.
The feel of the buttons is just right, travel is limited so fast clicking is easy.
RGB colours and schemes put my old Steelseries Sensei to shame, it looks cheap in comparison.
Colours are deep and gorgeous, it can go pretty bright!
Its great using in a dark room.
The build quality is the best I have seen in a mouse, its almost a masterpiece.

I was a bit pissed with Corsair after a few quality issues with my DDR4 ram and K50 keyboard.
But this mouse is great, a true high end quality mouse.
My most recent mice have been the Logitech G500 and Steelseries Sensei. fyi

I think this is the mouse I was looking for.
I'm well set up for VR gaming :)
Shame I have to wait until May.

It seems you got something, but here's some recommendations based on my recent reading, in case you're in the market again in the near future. Since you like the Intellimouse, here's 3 mice I've heard compared to them in glowing ways recently.

Ducky Secret
SteelSeries Rival 300
Zowie EC1-A/2-A (The only difference is the size, with one geared to larger hands and the other for smaller hands)

During the last 13 months I bought 8 different mousepads and 4 mice lol , ninox aurora zowie ec2-a roccat kone pure military and cm storm xornet II

xornet II is my top pick ! sensor feels very good, the cursor is very "snappy" but it also has high lift of distance and perfect control speed is capped around 3m/s so consider yourself warned

personally I don't mind high LOD and 3m/s is plenty since i play around 750dpi ( 630 actually ) 40cm/360 so i don't flick THAT fast in-game

it's very light (~80grams), has a very accurate scroll wheel (with spectrum lighting effects since FW 1.03 :p ) which feels almost as good the roccat titan 2d one aaand it retails at 35$ or less !

keep in mind that my fingers are short and chubby, but i liked gaming with the MS IMO 1.1 as much as you did back in the day.

here's some zowie IMO 1.1 pics for reference

Have had the Redragon M901 going on 2 months as of now it's been a solid mouse. Similar to the Naga but buttons feel bit more sturdy. Some people on Amazon say the buttons are hard to press. This is true until you break them in & get used to pressing them. The software is more reliable & user friendly compared to Naga software. The downside is you can't make infinite-loop macros. For example press a button to infinately repeat a macro until you press a button again to turn it off. Can't do that. But one thing that makes up for this is user profiles are stored on internal memory and/or mouse's hardware. So I can setup the mouse on my home PC and then take the mouse to a public library or my work computer and my macros & keybinds go with me. Mouse only cost $35 US and with amazon prime same-day-shipping it arrived at my door step 10 hours after ordering. All in all I wish I could merge some of the features of the Naga with some of the features of the Redragon.

Corsair M65 fan, here. Also really like the CM Storm Spawn.

Just picked one up myself a few days ago and am loving it. Its the best mouse Ive tried in a long time. Its not quite as good as my G502 which I consider to be the best and most precise but I do like the shape of the M65 a little better. It reminds me a lot of my old G9 which I dearly loved. I think its easily one of the best mice on the market.

My mouse the logitech G600 has been good for 3 years so far. You can't go wrong with it.

Yeah, what is it with Mice these days?

I'm currently using a Logitech G700. It's Meh. Battery life of... wait for it... about a frickin' day!

It's comfortable enough and it has the free-wheeling scroll wheel (which I love) but it's not a very well weighted version like the MX Master has. The MX Master is a decent enough mouse, but the Logitech "Options" software is by far the worst controller software ever made for any computer of any decade of any operating system. EVER. it's total, utter, stinky, SHIT! It screws up the precision. Simply clicking a check box can be like playing whack-a-mole at chucky cheeses. The precision option in the windows mouse control panel helps a ton, but with the options software installed it resets to off every friggin' restart.

Anyway.. yeah, mice.

You know what? The MX-518 is still the best damn mouse I think.

LGS takes control of that setting. It's poorly labeled. "Enhanced precision" is actually mouse acceleration. People have a love/hate relationship with that setting.. I preferred having it turned on with my MX518. But it actually decreases precision when turned on. But like anything, if you're used to using it, going without will take an adjustment.

I just upgraded from a working MX518 (keeping it just in case) to a Ducky Secret. I'm loving it so far.

I don't know why but I love cool gaming mice. I buy at least one a year and sometimes more. I just like having something new to play with (that's what she said). I'm almost as bad when it comes to gaming keyboards and only buy a new one every year and a half or 2.

With the gaming mice I can make a case for them being "better" with more features and usually a superb sensor. Gaming keyboards however I just have to 'fess up that I'm just a sucker for all the lame and basically useless lights and gadgets.

I feel ya.
I'm all out of upgrades, theres a Corsair Scimitar RGB glowing nicely on my right and a GSkill KM780 RGB came this morning.
I'm starting to suffer moving RGB light syndrome lol. Even my motherboard has changing RGB LEDs!
Great Keyboard and mouse :)

Same. I just upgraded a ton of stuff that I didn't feel the need to upgrade - keyboard, mouse, mousepad (lol), headset. The only things I haven't upgraded in the last year are my PC case and my speakers/amp. I have absolutely no desire to touch the case, perhaps ever, and I'd have to spend at least $250 to swap out my speakers/amp without downgrading, and that wouldn't even be much of an upgrade. So, I think I'm set.

My next upgrade will be an AMD GPU (Polaris or later) and a FreeSync monitor. But that's between 6 months and 3 years from now.

You may want to go careful on the speakers and amp.
I built the last speakers I will ever need and got Emotiva power amps.
Now I hardly ever look at hifi reviews because the only way to beat these is to spend silly money.
My world closed in a bit. Sounds special though.

I'm planning on building a case from wood later this year.
Its going to be no fun soon, thank god PCs need upgrading lol.

pwm 3310 is overrated

especially the zowie ones feel extra sluggish when tracking moving targets ( this could be improved with a firmware update like Mionix did with the avior 7000 )

s3988 feels amazing to aim with especially when the mouse itself has forward sensor placement and white teflon feet such as the Gigabyte XM300

^ current daily driver

keep your eyes peeled for pwm 3360 sensor mice ( public variant of 3366 found in logitech G502 303 and 900 )

That mouse looks nice. Price is good at $40 on Newegg. Only complaint is wish it had braided cable.

MX Master is perfect other than the auto ratchet will die in 2-3 days if you use it heavily. Waiting for a revision or next generation, will refund as okayed by PC supplier - very regular customer on a 2nd mouse and no fix from logitech..

I think it gets charged every 2-3 weeks or so. Probably longer with occasional use. Sick iR sensor (works on glass and shiny shit) and the thumb button is perfect, it's my zoom and autoscroll button. No more middle scroll button awkward clicks.

Have you had a chance to mess around with that mouse at all yet? If so how do you like it?

I am very much liking it so far. These friggin ceramic feet with the Ratpadz XT is the bomb. I can literally blow on the mouse and move it will all the weights in it. The only problem is that the bends in the cord sometimes pull the mouse across the XT when I do not want it to move.
