Far Cry Primal

*So far*... I have had no problems with this game with about an hour into it. GTX 980Ti with latest drivers.

I paid $36 thanks to the GMG VIP and I feel like I paid for a *very* nice expanison pack/redesign/reskin of Far Cry 4...think Blood Dragon concept...and that's basically what I have here.

Past this kind of scenario I'm not sure I can recommend this unless you're just a die hard FC junkie that can't get enough. It's gorgeous, runs well, nice music by Jason Graves, lack of guns and modern day conveniences does influence a different approach and more stealth to gameplay... it's nice.

technically games scales well, it looks well, it runs smoothly but I don't agree with most.
this games is nothing special graphically speaking.

There are textures that aren't sharp even at 4k, lightning is not "modern", I don't feel the "next gen" like I felt with Rise Of the Tomb Raider.

SLI on day one is impressive (and it's sad that we have to say this right?).

I fired it up briefly. Looks and runs fine on my 280X. I did not find it compelling enough to stop playing what I am currently playing though.

Why wouldn't it run fine on SLI? It's basically FC4 with some gameplay differences.

I agree. I tought on massive graphics improvements but it's the same old game as far cry 4.
Not bad, hope that I will enjoy playing it.

TB put out a new video for the game, about performance with the "Game-ready" driver:

How is 60fps on Ultra/Max settings not Max? Seems pretty playable to me.

At 1080p? On Titan X SLI? That is atrocious.

It seems as though SLI is broken even with the drivers, but even with a single Titan X I would expect far better.

If you watch the video above he is getting sub-30 FPS with SLI enabled, at 1080p on LOWEST POSSIBLE DETAIL. Shit is broke.

TPU suggests 76 fps average for a single Titan X at Ultra 1920x1080, and even 35 fps for humble GTX 960. 4K Ultra turns in 30 fps on TiX. 970 SLI is turning in fine numbers, 90 fps @ 1080 Ultra. Maybe something weird with the vlogger's setup.
Far Cry Primal: Performance Analysis

The question is: Does it look good? If it looks like ass, but kills m'titans, than its shitty coding.

If it looks like a visual orgasm of amazingness, and kills m'titans, than: worth it.

To me it looks like Far Cry 4. That is to say, good, but not worth that kind of performance hit. FC4 seems to have run a LOT better as well.

CPU: 3570K
GPU: 390X
RAM: 16GB
General Settings: 3440x1440 @ Ultra settings
Specifics: Disabled AA and Motion Blur. Fog set to lowest
FPS: 40-45 on average

The game looks incredible and I'm having a lot of fun so far.

TB is having issues that no one else is having. He refuses to admit that his issues are isolated to him and he's lost a lot of respect in my eyes because of this.

On the system in signature at 3840x2400 (a bit more than standard 4k) with the game maxed out, I have a minimum framerate of 56fps.
I play with vsync on and sincerely I rarely see the framerate goes under 60fps. Rarely.
This game on my rig is smooth as butter 4k and maxed out.
SLI scaling is perfect, it doubles the framerate.

post some screenshots...I want to see how this compares to Far Cry 3 and 4 from a visual standpoint

The Graphics don't look very appealing to me just a bunch of wasted textures.

The more I think about this...regardless of price... I'm considering going for a refund. It really sticks in my craw the wrong way

I thought you bought it through GMG?...they give out refunds if you don't like the game?

This is an accurate review: Wot I Think: Far Cry Primal

from that review: "It looks absolutely stunning at all times. Even more beautiful than FC4, and teeming with life, it’s a game that makes you want to stand still and stare"

damn, the game looks that good?

They might. We'll see what happens. At $36 I'm not ready to go to war over it and I've enjoyed it for what it is. Chances are I won't do anything but people need to approach this as an expansion pack of sorts.

I don't know if I'm as impressed as he is but I have had some moments where I did that because they really nailed the "teeming with wild life forest pre civilization" visuals and audio and it's gorgeous and immersive.

It's a damned good looking game overall. No question about that.

If you hadn't seen that post you would have no idea about this. I did everything in FC4 and I don't recognize the landscape in Primal in any way.

Yup. I mentioned this on reddit and got down-voted to all hell. This is also about the third time I can remember TB being an outlier with respect to in game performance. He needs to fix his shit.

OMG MY TITANS CAN'T MAX THIS OUT WITH 3000x MSAA OMG OMG OMG SHIT GAME!

Seriously, he puts out some good stuff but I rarely watch because it's always the same shit with him.

Honestly? I've got about 4 hours of gameplay into it at this point. Even knowing what the article says... I haven't had a moment yet in the game yet where I've said "Oh yeah, this is Far Cry 4" for whatever that's worth. The landscape looks very different to me and overall the game is gorgeous. I don't have any complaints.

I thought this was funny...

Primal's map

Won't be long till the only difference between Ubi's sequels is the number in the title

He ran FC4 and that worked perfectly. The thing that most of you guys miss is that there are other people that do not do reviews and they buy the game they have their Nvidia card and then the drama starts For that matter it does not make any difference if it was Nvidia or Radeon :) .

I do enjoy his attitude towards his Nvidia card he payed(?) top dollar for it and expects (maybe demands) results totally weird eh :) .

That's hilarious. But if you look at it, it does look like they changed it a lot.

What would you do? I'd start on the same boiler plate too.

Developers re-use game assets all the time. Seriously if you didn't have a full view of the map you would never know it in actual game play running around. I'm more concerned about the repetitiveness and fight mechanics than anything else.

I felt the same way as the reviewer about Far Cry 3's cultural tone deafness. Thanks for linking that article! I'm really on the fence about this title. I really want it badly, but I have Black Desert Online to play. BDO is like playing Chess with a PvP MMO overlay. Not sure if I can play both games at the same time and enjoy them to their fullest.

Never thought I'd say that I'm looking forward to a UBISOFT game. This is uncharted territory. :p

Hmmm... I need to check out BDO a bit closer at this rate. ;)

It's a solid title. If you're a Far Cry fan and want more it's a no- brainer.

Just don't pay full price for it. :)

There are a few subtle differences in gameplay and how I approach things in this because there are no guns and explosives. I feel like I've been playing more cautiously and stealthy than I might normally because even a bunch of the wildlife is feral and hostile.

I'm not even logged in and I hit GMG right now and it has the game up with a 25 percent off without even using a code. That's $45... eh, not bad but might be pushing it.

Up until a few days ago it was in the VIP section and the thing was knocked down to $36 which is how a lot of us went. That was a crazy price slash.

I'd keep an eye on a situation like that and make a move when the price feels right. :)

I will try Primal eventually when it's on sale, but in the mean time, I fired up Blood Dragon again since I never finished that. Finally, I figured out what the heck is going on in that game. Not a fan of the excessive screen white-out during fights though. edit: Once the weapons are upgraded, it becomes crazy easy, finished in one evening. Don't skip the garrisons ... that was my mistake.

Yes we all know that, but mostly textures, models and sounds. First time I have ever seen a whole recycled map between different games in different settings. Repetitiveness is a symptom of having recycled the core game for a third time, and using the same open world template of mechanics which seems to be employed for all of Ubi's games. I guess at some point they may actually try innovating again.

It's not completely unbelievable that early in the development process the idea was to use the same location as FC4 but of course in the past - but then maybe further along in development the decision was made (most likely to closer match history) to shift the game's location to "central Europe somewhere." It may have been too late at that point to get a new map in there, but then again who knows.

I'm on the fence whether it's overall enough "new" stuff to warrant full price (gut feeling is "no") and Ubi doesn't let its developers talk all that much so... never know if we'll get a legit answer, nor do we ever get the feeling that anyone cares about the customers.
