Battlefield 5 Set During World War I, Releasing October?

there are so many ww1 and ww2 games. do we really need another?

ww1/2 games do not sell very well. namely the ww1 appeal to very few since so many people are used to full auto all the time.

I look forward to nothing but bolt-action and semi-automatic guns, save for the heavy and unreliable machine guns. Hopefully the ticrate will be higher than 10 at launch this time :p.

I've been wanting a WW2 game with a new engine for a while. For a bit they were done WAY too much. Every other FPS was WW2 based. Now it's all future or modern combat. Which is ok, but it's starting to be like the old WW2 days - just way too many released. Time to go back to the WW2 days with a new engine.

In my opinion, anyway. Shake it up a bit.

Ah this reminds me of playing Codename Eagle. The blimp was freaking scary to see coming over the horizon. Unfortunately, there were too many people that were masters of bombing from out of visual range and the game became impossible to those of use more casual players.

Im excited and agree we need to mix it up. Not every game needs jump jets and double jumps/wall running.

lee enfield 303, grease guns, water cooled machine guns, Thompson sub-machine guns, mostly stick mags not drums those were more fbi issue, 1911 hand gun, colt, spring field arms, rock field armoury, remington arms, all produced various rifles for the armies over seas... HK and few other companies got there start buying these. muasuer was made is vast quantities... what you will not find is anything over 30 caliber in a rifle and 9x19 parabellum in a hand gun unless it was a hide away gun. M1 Garand was designed during WWI. the carbine was 45 caliber thompson sumbmachien gun rounds and the battle rifle was 30-06 or thirty caliber 1930 issue. Sten machine gun was one or two... gatlin gun was used that is from the civil war. the wright brothers were 1906 and the red baron died in 1918 so there will be mustang planes with the things so you do not shoot off the prop.

We haven't had a good WWI game in like...ever aside from some RTS type games. Again I'm talking about one that encompasses a lot of the major aspects of that war and not simply one specific area (IE Trenches).

Also they don't sell well? WWII was like the main setting for yeaaaars in most fps games in the late 90's/early 2000's, Medal of Honor, Call of Duty, etc.

Plenty of different things to use, lot more than that.

I don't see how it will sell with all of the kids getting in game and then realize that most of the guns are bolt action. They will all either sit back and snipe or rage quit.

Just give me a M1918A2 BAR or a Springfield M1903 and I will f**k s**t up. Oh and bayonet charges will be a thing again :woot:
Also I would love it if they did a WWII game but I can live with a WWI game. If they do a modern or future game I won't even consider buying it.

world war setting or not, i just want something with the mechanics of bfbc2. that game was awesome.

There were a lot of theaters, a lot of attempts, a lot of changes. When the Germans attacked a prewar division trained in rapid fire they thought they were facing massed machine guns. At the TOE was something like 4 machine guns a Regiment and two available. Trench mortars. Mining (tunnels). Vehicles for transport and movement. Early tanks. Infiltration tactics. Italian mountains (with Rommel). Galopolli, which could have worked if the allied forces moved fast.
Defend Paris.

To some extent you are transitioning from the civil war era to WWII. Germany Built 50,000 aircraft. Shotguns were popular for clearing trenches. Lots of horses. Battle of Jutland.

I can just imagine the game play.

[spawn] Hop out of Trench, run ten yards towards enemy, killed by machine gun or Artillery.
{spawn] Hop out of Trench, run ten yards towards enemy, killed by machine gun or Artillery.
[spawn] Gas Attack, die
{spawn] Hop out of Trench, run ten yards towards enemy, killed by machine gun or Artillery.

yay! can't wait for it.

Sounds good to me! Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there have been many games based in WWI. To me, the history of WWI is far more interesting than WWII.

There was a MOH game set in WWI? As far as I'm aware, all the games prior to 2010 were set during WWII.

I stand corrected and wander around looking for my alzheimers pills. MoH was still a great game, it was breath taking at times making you feel as if you were there, great port for VR

Not to worry because BF5 isn't going to be one. The Internet circlejerk continues about a no name game site that made the whole WW1 thing up. EA hasn't even shown the game to partners yet, much less some random game key seller.

I tend to agree. It's very hard to balance forcing a majority of players into bolt action guns when a select few have automatics. operation orchestra is pretty good for this, but the autos and semis are ALWAYS picked and people will just not play if they limit those slots. which is also the reason that game has such a small player base.

My favorite Battlefield game was BF1942, mostly because it was a game that had great balance. It had guns, it had tanks, it had airplanes, etc. It combined WW2 with simple elements like flag capture, etc. They didn't go overboard with the "realism", so that it remained a simple enough game for just about anyone to jump in and start having fun within 5 minutes. Newer battlefield games seemed to try too hard to be some kind of over-complicated war sim, with really lame DLC as well. I would love a game that could get back to it's roots and be more of an all-around game that people could just have fun playing. WWI was not my favorite time period for this kind of content but I could see how it could work.

Kids on consoles are just a reality in today's video game design decisions, and EA wants a big holiday seller especially after Battlefront didn't meet expectations. No way in hell they'd greenlight a WW1 game, any more than the next CoD would dare to go WW1. They're simply not going to gamble.

My favorite FPS of all times is the Red Orchestra series. Has been lots of fun, but unfortunately you are right, the community is unfortunately small. I don't understand why so many people prefer the run and gun garbage like Battlefield, when there are great, strategy and teamwork heavy games out there.

Contemporary warfare type games don't appeal to me in the slightest. Maybe it's too soon. Maybe the horrors of war are not as apparent as in history. Maybe it's just the lack of historical significance that makes them less interesting. The draw in these other games is in large part the history of it all.

Actually EA wants a big holiday seller regardless of battlefront (wasn't it 2nd for 2015 sales anyways?) or any other game lol.

It could sell well. I feel it would be dumbed down a bit to be simpler to play or they will have something off the wall added to it like zombie mode or some steampunk magical crap mode.

WAT

Almost every FPS out now is some lame modern day shooter where you seem to be the star in the latest Michael bay action film. We need another gritty WW1/2 game. Its been a long time and since tech has improved a lot since the last big one, it will be much much better this go around. I welcome more ww2 shooters and hope they make a comeback. At least with historic shooters the story is actually good and makes sense as opposed to you fighting some bad guy and his army in oder to save the work from a deadly virus / deadly software hack / deadly weapon...

we have those, and they sell like shit.

Yup, either bring back WW2 or make a new Bad Company 2 game.

1942 was the last time I enjoyed flying: jets are just too fast to have any fun with on a map the size of Battlefield. And I suck at flying helos.

There is currently only one WWI MP game (Verdun) and one WWII MP game (Rising Storm/Stalingrad) being played still. Day of Defeat doesn't count because it is crap.

name one AAA WW1/2 that has came out recently. The ones we get now are crappy EA games or indie games. The last WW2 to come out was Red orchestra 2
