World of Warships Enters Open Beta!

sad times, dayaks and i were on a roll.. wrecked the hell out of a T8 team with him in a fuso and i was in my ognevoi finally broke 3k XP without 1.5x first win bonus or premium on that ship.. but i forgot about server down time..

I have no trouble at all penetrating BBS with the Iowa or Montana.

Edit: just nailed an Izumo, however.... I don't find the grouping to be much better than before.

It's mainly firing at the Yamato that pisses me off.

you'd be surprised how much damage you can get out of an HE salvo :)

I would consider HE to do more consistant damage, where AP gives you more bursts of damage but require certain angles to do so.

I bought the 4000 dabloom permanent flag for my Fletcher. If I ever decide to move up to the Gearing, can it be transferred? I can find no info on this at all.

Permanent camo bought on a ship, stays with that ship. There is no way to transfer it. I wish there were, then I'd be able to move the obnoxious New Years camo from my Cleveland around to other ships just for the annoyance factor.

On a side note, if anyone would like to see what ships have a permanent camo option it's in the res folder of your WoWS install. Near the bottom of the camoflages.xml file is a section for permanent camo. Any ship there has or had the option for some type of permanent camo.

In case no one noticed, they appear to be doing an un-advertised X2 Captains Points deal this weekend... Go get some!

Never thought I'd say this, but it just may be time to sell the Cleveland. It just isn't the same after the patch, and I really don't enjoy it any more.

And I just sold the Ibuki to have funds to upgrade the Fletcher. I can always buy it back if I decide to, but it's another one that just doesn't trip my trigger.

I thought it was from project R.

I think it was that "around the world" thing they did. Didn't really trigger my interest enough to really follow it... Or anyone else's apparently. :)

TechLarry I can relate with some ships. That turret rotation - took me some time to adjust my play style. Especially on ships like the murmansk.

it was advertised, it's part of the IJN sale for the around the world event they've been doing all month.

Anyone played WoWs with a Trackball? I have an old Kensington around here somewhere and I might try it. Being able to fling that zoom in and out and to the left and right with that thing might be handy :)

Nice run on the Mahan :) it seems to suite you well, the hidden gunboat gameplay :p If you have the patience for it.. it is rewarding!

I like it as long as it doesn't get TOO Derpish :)

I'm finding the 6.4 det/10.2 range 66mph torps of the Fletcher, along with the machine guns it has, to be a nice compromise that allows all sorts of different game play. An IJN that wins a gun fight with a Fletcher is one lucky sum bitch. Even my Shima has shit for guns.

The only things that are shitty about IJN DD guns is the traverse speed and range. T7+ are the same guns and they hit hard. I've skirmishes with Benson's and killed them on the fubuki.

They might hit hard, but the god damn things will never fire when you need them. NEVER. They are either dilly dallying themselves around to position, or they are reloading, or whatever but they are NEVER ready when you need them. To semi-quote a fellow WoWs player, "Fuck Those Guns"

I could do more damage by sticking my 1911 out the bridge window and firing.

:)

Don't get me wrong. The US guns aren't perfect. They fire fast because you NEED to land a shitload of them to do any real damage, and using them is more akin to playing horseshoes than firing guns. But, like the St. Louis, it's just damn fun to rain fire down on someone and pester the shit out them, especially when you are in invisi-fire mode :)

You gotta play it the right way to reduce it's weakness :p There is no perfect ship, apart from the Des Moines! (ok its 9/10, if it had torps it would be 15/10)

I just find the shell arc and travel time to be wonky on US DD, they are monsters against BBs, but so hard to hit DDs from anything above 8k ish.

To me, in an IJN, the guns are mostly a defensive weapon. You get lit up by a DD, a plane spots you, whatever. It's better than sitting there and just taking the pounding you are about to get. Most of the time you lay low and spam the hell out of them with torps. You're not really gonna light off an IJN's guns without good reason, and except in very rare circumstances, never as a primary weapon. It's like lighting up a big sign that says "Kill me NOW!"

I love the torps on the IJN. I cannot stand the guns though. They are nothing more than a death whistle.

And I DO understand about the shell arc. AFT is totally useless on the US DD's because of the low velocity guns. I can fire at the left side of the screen and they land OFF screen to the right when at long distance.

BUT if you can find yourself a BB, say at 10-12 K, and there is no one else around you, you can sit there and invisi-fire 100+ rounds on that thing and just be a gnat in his fucking ear until he makes a mistake from the insanity or you finally blow him up LOL

This is from a game yesterday. It is a Fletcher harassing the hell out of a Montana. They are the only two ships left IIRC. the Fletcher side may have had a cruiser off in the distance somewhere, but I'm pretty sure it was just these two.

All we dead people sat and watched this gone for, jeez, 5 minutes I think. He just kept firing and firing and there wasn't a damned thing the Montana could do but sit there and take it. He finally blew up the Montana. I wouldn't doubt a hit count of well over 300 for that Fletcher.

Oh, and for those that say Invisi-Fire doesn't exist, um, Bullshit :)

The Fletcher was 8k away.

Oh, and this Montana was at 100% health at the end of a game when this started, so I didn't feel bad for him one damned bit.

Maybe shit rotation and RoF, but the damage a shima can do is significant. Knocks out turrets on udaloi all the damn time. Those guns hit seriously hard.

I haven't started the US cruiser line yet, but I did read that the default Cleveland turrets are better than the upgraded turrets now. The upgraded turrets fire faster, but they traverse painfully slow.

I played IJN DD on the EU server before I switched to the U.S. server (where I went US dd).

I don't remember having much trouble killing DDs. One thing I do is I preemptively Fire torps to where I think DDs will come from. Then when they pop up I gun them to death. I see a lot of Jap DDs dick around with torps and by the time they have guns lined up they are half dead. Sure US DDs have a slight gun advantage, but if you have good aim and plan your turn ahead so your guns are on the right side IJN can be deadly.

Actually had a match this morning where we would have won if the Jap dd used his guns earlier....

I love seeing carriers 6km from DDs, with 2k hp and they dick around with torps for five minutes.

Sold my Iowa. 15 battles, 2 wins. 0 survived.
Of the 15 battles, 14 of them I am the highest BB against a Yamato(or two).

Had this earlier today:

Enemy team
Yamato
Yamato
Iowa
Tirpitz

My Team
Stock Iowa(me)
Tirpitz
North Carolina
Wyoming (fail division)

O;; try it again if they fix MM, but for now its a no-go

Wow, great job with the Yorck!

I just got out of another badass match with the Mahan:

yup and it only gets better with the benson which wrecks the crap out of other DD's.

FYI 24 hour premium code has expired

not sure how long it will be active though, but it's suppose to be for the whole leap year thing. got the code from some one in game.

Nah, 32 seconds stock isn't bad. The Yorck used to be 55 seconds (ish) until the buffed it to around 30. At least 30 can keep up with a full turn...

I can't quite put my finger on it, but the Cleveland was neutered with the last update. I can't tell exactly what it is, but it is NOT the same ship. It might be time to let it go.

Can't quite put your finger on the removal of primary battery benefits from BFT and AFT and the reduced benefit in turret rotation from Expert Marskmen in the last patch?

the turret rotation change was probably the biggest screw up. if they were really that worried about transverse speed, they probably should of switched it to a 3 stage skill.. 139mm 7./s 200mm 4./s larger than 200mm .7/s and actually wouldn't surprise me if that ends up being the change after seeing the numbers on the russian cruisers.. because beyond T4 all their guns are 180mm or larger.. yeah have fun with that transverse speed..

the cleveland needed to be nerfed, but it didn't need to be nerfed that much.

It was only valid yesterday for leap day.

yeah it was working up til about 3 am PST when i finally went to sleep so wasn't sure how much longer it would go..

The light gun cruisers should not have been hit with the turret traverse nerf. Range reduction is fine, but lighter 152-155 turrets should turn faster than they do now, for game-play not necessarily historical accuracy. Should never really be a case in game where 203+ size guns turn faster than 155.

I had a bunch of good games with the Cleveland, had enough XP on the Omaha. Went 10 out of 13. Most of the time was in 1st around 1900XP. I was using the 15 point captain off my Atlanta, which I can switch back and forth.

I like the better AP. 4k slavos against New Mexicos are fun, especially on their back side. I missed the torps on the Atlanta a few times. BB coming around the bend? Ah shit this is going to take a whole bunch of time...

Whatever man. I'm not the expert.

.
They did the same thing with the Kiev. It was OP, and instead of hitting it with a gentle nerf hammer, they called on thor himself to drop his hammer of the Gods from the stratosphere at the speed of light into the nerf button.
