I am not like this layout at all. I cannot tell "read" threads versus "new" threads. Plus it makes my eyes bleed.

You need to clear you browser cache and cookies.

That big ol' Hoverhound pop-up follows me around from screen to screen--especially on the forum pages.

Clicking the the link in the pop-up brings up some Chrome page. I don't use Chrome at all. After a while it will go away but then returns off and on. Very annoying. Also running an adblocker.

Click the X on the banner. Adblocker might be blocking it. Thanks for blocking our ads.

OK, I'm back with a little more investigation regarding this. Currently I'm typing this, with the black theme selected, on a 10 in Android tablet while looking at the desktop version of the forum. The white font on the black background is crisp and sharp. Basically the complete opposie of the blurry, hard to read mess on my win10 desktop w/ Firefox. So this makes me wonder, what is different? Could the issue be with Firefox on the desktop and how it renders the font? Or maybe the issue is with Windows 10? whatever it is, might not be a problem with the forum at all, but related to Windows somehow. the difference is huge between the two, the font on the tablet looks completely different. Even zoomed in the font stays sharp. When I tried to zoom in w/ Firefox on my desktop, the sharpness didn't get any better.

Sounds like a font subsampling problem. Also some 3D desktops and such can cause colours to become off.
I may be oblivious to a huge problem due to the simple fact I'm on XP without even cleartype I believe.
You mentioned a Desktop with FF. Can you try IE on it? Or the other thing they did?

Did you look at the screenshot I posted? Is there an "X" anywhere in the banner? There isn't one in the PC Hound pop-up either. The only thing that can be clicked on in the Hover Hound pop-up is the highlighted text; PC Hound can be clicked anywhere in the banner. Either way, now that adblocker is off again the Hover Hound banner is gone, replaced by the PC Hound Banner and it stays at the top of the pages which is fine. Just never noticed it so much until the forum format changed--maybe it is an IE thing.
So your ad blocker was breaking our code. Sorry about that.

Noted the thoughts? Just feel free to keep the drawings man, honestly.
Also, one last tidbit because you can't have enough anal people on the internet.
Look at this one:

Note that I've added a 'bold' css font-weight to the upper menu and to the subforum-set names. I don't know if it's wasted vertical space or useful separation of a huge list.

good idea, I didn't try another browser, but won't be able to for another week (on vacation)

whats your monitors contrast? Is the lablet super amoled?
no idea what the contrast is, but the tablet is ips I believe, definitely not amoled

Anyone else notice in photo heavy threads on Chrome where the page has finished loaded and you scroll up/down in the thread and the pictures are jumping all over (popping into view) making it near impossible to view the thread?

That's a stupid browser feature that tries to save bandwidth by not loading images until they're in view. Firefox also has it, but it can be disabled, I don't know about chrome.

I was wondering why the individual page links near threads are not visible until you hover your mouse over the thread name. It's an useless feature, that space is empty anyway. And without seeing how many pages the threads have popular threads don't stand out as they used to.

In Firefox, you can turn Smart Scrolling off in Options>Advanced>General.

In an interesting coincidence, Google announced last month that Chrome 49 would finally receive Smart Scrolling for Windows and Linux versions. vr., you may wish to look into whether Smart Scrolling (or the lack of it) is causing what you are seeing.

The other thing I found is that some sites have Javascript that handle how images pop in. This is not configurable by browser users, other than turning Javascript off. I have no idea if the new forum code does this, or does it differently than the old forum.

I would make the Grey separations for Topics a few shades greyer. It was really distinct on the old CRT Style board. and message bodies

The length of the Message from the last posted message is really long maybe you could squish it? With red borders or something I have my Task bar on the right side to make it more form fitted just did that today.
But I know some people have vertical monitor for just that reason.

the old forum did the same thing.....

(My apologies if this has been discussed already. I haven't read through the whole thread):

A small suggestion for Search. When you're viewing a thread, it would be more logical/convenient if the Search defaulted to "Search this thread only" instead of defaulting to search the forum only.

A much bigger suggestion, though: Please consider reformatting search results so that they're more compact. I search 'For Sale / Trade' a lot and find the new search results to be very hard to sift through. Displaying one line of text from the first post is of almost no use, and the date posted (important in almost any search) is not displayed very prominently. More importantly, especially in a 'For Sale / Trade', the last update is not shown. Results formatted like the forum view would be close to ideal.

Agreed, done.

In full forum view, search now defaults to entire forum, in sub-forum view, it defaults to that sub-subforum, in thread view search defaults to that thread.

There are two things I see that might irritate other people as well.

One, on the mobile phone you cannot sign out unless you request full page.
Two, once logged in it goes to the last page on the post. I want to see the first page to see what someone is selling, not the last page where it says bump.

Hopefully, it will be fixed. I'll continue to support and suck it up.

i would like it to stay at the current page. I loathe when you sign into something and it takes you to a new page and than you need to go back to where u were. grrr

I'm having the same problem even when not signed in now.
For instance, I view a For Sale page and click on a post I'm interested in, and instead of seeing the first post of what they're selling; It takes me all the way to the last page and the last post. Hope that makes sense. English is not my first language, sorry and thanks in advance.

interesting that sounds as if it defaults you to last page instead of the last post you read. Either that thread has different settings or it thinks you have read all the posts already. Weird

Clearing cache and cookies after logging out is likely your friend. I have verified that the system is working as it should on mobile currently under Chrome.

how would cookies affect a page sending you to the last page. I would get it maybe sending you to the first page and not the last page but not vice versa.

It is all 100% cookie based system.

cookies are made when you do something...how is a cookie made if you didn't do something? Is it an error in the system because if you didn't view a page a cookie shouldn't exist saying you already viewed it....

how would clearing cookies help or how would a cookie exist saying you viewed something when you haven't...
You are right, cookies have nothing to do with read posts. My apologies.

I cleared the cookies. It seem to work but if you hover over the link of the post, anything that says ~/unread will go to the last post of that post.
Also, if you drag the browser and make it smaller, your name will disappear. You can still click on it if you know where it is to logout.
Will have video later. Sorry

From the video it seemed that you were not always clicking on the thread title. Thread title will take you to the first unread thread. Clicking on the unread icon next to the thread title will take you to the first unread thread, clicking below the thread title on the timestamp will take you to the OP.

I'm sorry The video I recorded was slightly off. My screen is 1080 but the max the recorder could do is 835.

For the hidden page numbers only appearing on hover, you can simply change the style:

.discussionListItem .itemPageNav {
visibility: visible;
}

You can do this using any extension that allows custom CSS. That said, if it's against the [H] rules - be wary. YMMV.

You can do anything you like with the CSS. If you are not familiar with CSS, you can use this theme that a user has been working on.

This might interest you.

any way we can get back the 'Search' options for example 'Search within this thread' placed directly into each thread like it used to be...it used to be easy to search each individual thread...now I have to go into the main Search option and filter the threads which is much more annoying...it used to be located on the top right of each thread

clocking on search and filling in the drop down does exactly that as far as i know

I figured it out thanks you can do it with preferences think I like the Dark better

thanks...not sure if that was there all along or if was added in later but yeah that does the trick...I don't remember seeing that ...my only remaining complaint is that I wish a 'Post Reply' option was placed at the top of every thread instead of only at the bottom
