How to stack monitors?

I have a 34" 21x9 monitor; with a 21" 16x9 on it's side next to it on an arm. Ideally; I think I want the 21" mounted directly above** my 34"; though My arm won't go that high. Any suggestions on how to either 'extend/raise' my desk so I can use my existing arm(Arm is just clamped to the side of an Ikea Galant currently); or cheap-ish alternative to get the height?

<edit> Old pic added; basically the same setup today just with some items shifted. It's an Ikea Galant desk; I don't have* to stay in the corner like I am currently (and my tower is no longer behind the monitors). Also for clarification; this is a fuzzy panorama; the desk is a corner though the phone made it.. straight (making the 34" monitor seem less wide)

Added an old pic I had on phone; I rebuild my desktop since then and moved it to the right; but still basically the same. Vertical monitor is on a nice Ergo arm; the ultra-wide is using it's built instand. I'd like to move the vertial monitor above if possible as the single 34" is probably as wide as I want to go.

Do you plan on keeping the 21" vertical or will it be horizontal?

Ideally horizontal; I'd like it centered right above the 34". I've found half my use case for the second screen since getting the 21x9 has been media playback; where the vertical is a big waste of space. I've generally found that I'm no longer wanting a vertical documentation monitor off to the side while working; i can keep work on halves and place tertiary distractions on second display.

A dual stacking arm would work if you like arms:

Ergotron 45-248-026 LX Dual Monitor Arm, Stacking

If your budget doesn't go that high try www.tykesupply.com as they had dual and triple height vertical monitor stands.

Dual stack arm might work; but not sure I can find one I'd trust the 34" on; I have the Ergotron MX (beefier version of the LX) that I had originally planned on using for the 34"; but it was just too awkward on it that I didn't trust. Maybe a single Tall arm for the 21" though; though I haven't found one I think can be tall enough yet..

The Ergotron LX HD handles 46" TVs, you don't think it can handle a 34" 21:9 ?

I mistyped I think. I meant I didn't think my Ergotron MX could handle my 34" 21:9 (I had it mounted for a bit before I came to that conclusion), and that I wasn't sure if I could find a dual-stacking stand that could hold a 34" below a 21". I just need the 21" *high* :)

So only use the upper arm for the 21" - you only need to mount the 34" if you need articulation.

I wouldn't stack them, it is a huge pain in the neck. Unless you can keep your primary monitor at the same height and mount the secondary below it which isn't possible with the desk you have.

It depends on how high the main monitor is - if you have it low enough the upper monitors are not so bad, especially if the upper monitors are used for secondary purposes that don't need constant attention like CPU/GPU temperatures, chat windows, etc.

If he lowers his main monitor it isn't going to be an ideal placement, and he is going to still get a neck ache looking up at the secondary screen. I had a setup like that before and it gave me a neck pain even just using it occasionally for system monitoring and chatting like you said. If you have at the side I would definitely use it. Otherwise the monitor becomes basically useless or a pain in the neck.

I stack monitors and I haven't had any neck issues.

I do treat the upper monitors as secondary, if I need what is on them for an extended period of time I do pull the windows down to the lower monitors.

I also use a chair that reclines so I'm bending my chair instead of my neck.

I use the monitor being basically for chat; music; water pump info, stuff like that. When i'm doing something brainless; maybe toss a netflix window on there. I find currently with the vertical positioning (embedded in OP) that i full screen things and 80% of the secondary monitor is wasted space (I could better utilize out Win10s new alighment hotkeys to help probably..).

Bonus of stacking would also be that I could center my speakers around main display better :) Currently I have them both pointing outword from completely behind main display; not idea by an stretch.

What are you using to mount he upper monitor? I haven't pulled the trigger yet; a dangling/unused arm just seems... wrong.

My rig has 3x dual vertical stands, 2 of them are Ergotron DS100 and the third is a modified Atdec with a twin horizontal arm to hold 2 monitors.

The 34" ultrawide is 13.3" height viewable area, which is actually shorter than the 16" height viewable of my 30" monitors so stacking for you is easier.
