Black Desert Online

Nah, already downloaded the whole thing. No issues here (Europe region).

Mine sat at 100% patching for awhile but i closed it and re-opened it and it was ready.

How does trading work? Is it the old trade system? Or is it a mail system? Or is it, you got the item, you throw it away or keep it?

There is no trade system.

Outside of the ingame auction house.

Tried out a few more hair and style variations on my tamer

That's lame.. I'm gonna hazard a guess that there is probably a guild storage that you can use for "trading" though.

Not entirely sure on that.

I preferred the green green one.

I was messing around with a more toxic looking green one today as well

One of my friends got overwhelmed with the editor today as well so i threw together some Sorceress for him so he can just jump into the beta later with one he likes.

CBT2 starts tonight at 3am, or tomorrow 3am how ever you want to look at it lol.

CBT2 patch notes with store pricing of items:
CBT2 Patch Notes

Holy moley! 32 freaking bucks for an armor set? Do they not understand how people buy virtual items?

I buy skins for league of legends, they are like 5'ish bucks for a skin (and I wait for sales at that most of the time). 30+ bucks is going to REALLY price things out of peoples hands.

Not to mention the game isn't free to play here, it will require you to buy the base game (a la guild wars 2) on top of having this stuff.

32 bucks?! If that's the case, we're going to see yet another Korean MMO basically in the toilet thanks to monetization. We need to give them vehement feedback about this kind of garbage. I've seen some other possibly problematic issues too, such as the Founders packs, including the Champion one etc... does not grant the special costume/weapon for every character on your account/family, supposedly! If I'm paying real money for a virtual item (or even if I'm not) I expect to be able to use it on every character I make present and future. It is bad enough to see cosmetic items on cash shops (cosmetic content is still game content and some people enjoy collecting them with their game time. Selling these for extra $$ is frustrating when most devs would never put a paywall on dungeons, raid, or PVP content . If you wouldn't put an extra "tax" on those who like to raid with their game time, then I don't see why its okay to do so for those who prefer to collect outfits and furnish their homes), but those prices are insane.

While we're discussing this title, does anyone know if CBT2 will have more class/gender options than those found in the Character Creator? I just DL'ed the Creator recently and was surprised and annoyed to find how many of the classes are gender locked and have unique models! There are only 3 male classes in the Creator - Wizard, Berserker, and Warrior!! All the rest are exclusively female and every class seems to have a particular body style - for instance, you can't make a Tamer with the same body proportions as a Sorceress, the Berserker will always be a hulking ugly thing and the Wizard is elderly! Within these confines there is a significant amount of character creation options, but it seems very disappointing that I won't be able to make the classes I want in the genders I wish or select their aesthetics outside of a certain baseline. I understand having one or two classes that are gender/age/appearance locked, but for a game like Black Desert which focuses so much on roleplaying, crafting, home ownership etc... from its description, not being able to make a character you enjoy seems to be a deathblow. I REALLY hope that the Creator is simply only a sampling of character types and that CBT2 and the live game will offer a much wider variety of appearances, genders etc.. for a given class. Any idea if this is the case?

Made it past the "Failure to Init Security" boss. Now if I can defeat the "Can't connect to the servers" boss I will be golden I think!

Making my character and I while choosing my hair I uttered, "It's so pretty!" Don't know if I should shut the game off or continue on.

I can't play this game. I would be freaking broke. These are the best looking outfits I've ever seen in the Cash Shop. I hope there are some costume drops in game also.

Didn't have any issues logging in. Testing out Valyrie at the moment. Not too bad if you ask me.

I don't really like that armour piece much. Kinda lacks protection...

32 bucks?! I

Yeah i am hoping they listen to rage in the forums, and drop it down to around $10-12 for a costume, or $3 per pet. At those prices i know i would spend money in the cash shop.

At the current ones tho they wont see a dime from me. Clothes are not worth that much to me.

I like how the shield expands when you pull your weapon

Yeah they definitely need change those prices or at least I will not buy stuff.

I also realised that my Valkyrie is just too small. xD

Well, after playing a few hours in CBT1 and now in CBT2, I just don't like the game. It's has nice graphics, but that seems to be about it. There's horrible pop-in, some of the worst I've ever seen. Everything RPG wise just feels generic and boring. And I can't stand the stupid black cloud and it's annoying sound effects. Seems like 80% or more of the effort went into character creation and graphics. I'll give a game a few hours, but If it can't interest me in that amount of time, it probably never will. And before people claim "well it's just a beta", I also played The Division beta and fucking loved it. It proved itself to me in the hours I gave it, even being a beta. BDO, however, did not.

Maybe they'll pull a rabbit out of their hat at release and this game will somehow become great, but I'm starting to think the naysayers were right. This game was meant to be pretty, grindy, and a way to sell expensive stuff in the cash shop. And expensive it is. As it stands now, there's no way I'd invest any time into this game when FFXIV is a FAR superior game. And yes, it's not a "fair" comparison since FFXIV has been around a while. But FFXIV ARR, not the original 1.0 atrocity, was way more engaging on release and just a better game. And we are pretty close to release with BDO. There's not gonna be much else changing. And to me that's a bad thing, since I don't like the game in it's current form at all.

Hopefully they prove me wrong, but I'm guessing this game is gonna be a big disappointment and that this thread is gonna get pretty ugly after release.

Is there a light source like a lantern for nighttime? I played a few minutes, concluded that the game was more awesome than I thought, and logged so I don't spoil the true launch by

Black Desert Online has been out in South Korea for years. This is the polished version. It isn't going to change except for maybe some added voice acting. WYSIWYG. If you don't like it now, you'll never like it. The BDO beta tests saved you some money. Just like the Division beta tests showed me that it was nothing more than a Defiance clone. I really liked Defiance, but I'm through with that genre. Everyone likes different things. :)

You get a lantern at the start, in your inv. atleast i did.

I am pretty sure it has limited fuel so you have to use silver to buy another later.

Fixed the armor color situation looks 100x better now

That's a big durn cat!

Yeah i have no idea how that cat compares to other cat sizes, It is the Grey Moon Cat and its like having a second beast follow you around.

There is an option to disable seeing other players pets as well as an option to not even see your own lol and i can see why that would be needed for some.

That little black cloud pisses me off. Extremely annoying.

I'm not sure if I'm liking it yet. I'll need to play more.

By the way... That 30 day appearance change coupon thing is rather useful since you can tweak your characters as much as you want and you see the results in game.

Do we have any here who have played the Korean version of Black Desert Online perchance? As I mentioned before, I am extremely disappointed at the gender-and-apperance-locked classes. I had hoped perhaps it was a Character Creator only issue, but now that CBT2 is here it seems that yes... those are the only classes/appearances there are. Especially as a Roleplayer and with a game like BDO that seems to have less "story mode, more sandbox" advertising, allowing players to really enjoy their characters seems an important part of i t. Likewise, they put a huge amount of effort into the character creator for options (sure, its cool to be able to change the curliness and flow of your hair) - but then strangled them within relatively limited designs for each class! Having only a single class capable of making an young/middle aged average male character (ie Warrior.) is frustrating.

Now, I've heard rumors that there are other classes to be released in Korea/Japan -or have already been? Forum posts and discussions mention a male Archer (perhaps Elven?), a male "Blader" which seems to be a more graceful sword-user, both male and female Ninja classes (Ninja and Kunoichi...though I hear "Plum" is used to describe the latter, or maybe that's another class entirely?) etc... are these classes or others not currently in the International version currently present in the Korean version? If so, I wonder why Daum is releasing the game without them Internationally, given that BDO has been out for quite some time in Korea. In the event these classes are coming with relative swiftness to the Western version, then that would give me more reason to buckle down and give BDO a serious shot.

Lastly, I've heard that the International version will come with A) English vocals only / Korean disabled and B) some degree of censorship? On language, I remember seeing that Daum wants to save money by only localizing vocals in English (instead of French/German too etc), but does this mean the option for original Korean won't be present? If they're worried about the localization costs, I'd much rather them not record any English vocals at all and simply subtitle in any/all languages, leaving the original Korean in. Even if they want to invest in English audio, then it would be nice to allow the choice of Korean for those who may prefer the original. With regards to censorship, I've heard discussion that there may be edited costumes and other "inflammatory content" etc... may be removed compared to Korea, but I'm not been able to get a hard confirmation or comparison on exactly what.

Lets see how the beta progresses over ther weekend and hopefully Daum will totally redo the costs of the cash-shop items - though to be honest, industry insiders I've spoken with mention that Western publishers of Korean titles are often constantly in a battle with the Korean owners who insist on things being done "their way", even if it isn't the best for the game internationally.

Does the game seem really really dark to anyone? Like even during the day, it's like the blacks are crushed and it's just no sense of light shadows vs dark shadows, just "completely black."

Have not noticed it being dark, there are in game color, and contrast settings you can mess with.

The stock contrast setting is +20% which causes that. Also by default it uses super vibrant post-process filter (that I obviously disabled). I'm pretty sure that I'll reduce contrast to 0% too (edit: done). I think that they are trying to make it look on really crappy washed out TN screens but at least on my IPS display everything is way too vibrant and contrast is too high.

Few random shots (without crapola filters, no contrast boost).
