So I finally got around to using the key I got, (Win 7 Pro) in my new rig.

First I made a good install usb drive, then promptly installed the wrong version (ultimate). I found out when I entered the key after the install "this key is for a different version".
Next I ran the correct install (Pro), and after install went to enter the key and got "this is not a valid key", so I chose "ask me later" or whatever the choice is for doing it later.
Fast forward two days and I had expected to get the little popup from MS "you need to verify this installation", but I have not.

Did the key get registered to the system the first time when I tried to use it on the Ultimate install, erroneously errored the second time, but after install was completely automatically found it? Or some other combination that makes everything good?

Go to Start -> Control Panel -> System -> scroll to the bottom and click the "You must activate Windows within xxxx days" and type in the key there when it says you have to enter a key. That should get everything sorted out :)

All good now, thanks. Its been many years since I've had to do one.

Can these be used to upgrade a pre-existing 10 Home install to 10 Pro?

I'm not sure. I've had someone tell me he could use one to upgrade from 7 Home to 7 Pro, but I don't know about Win10.

It only upgrades to the equivalent version of your win 7 install, so home > home, pro > pro, etc. 7 ult upgrades to pro.

Thanks for the info :)

Prices now OBO; hit me up with your offers!
