Whitehouse.gov and eBay were absolutely stunning in 1995/1996.

We found the earliest versions of some of the most visited websites today, like Facebook, Google, and Buzzfeed. Here's what the sites looked like then, and what they look like now. Web design has come a long way — oh, and the ads have gotten a lot more in-your-face.

what no whitehouse.com from 20 years ago? this stuff makes me feel old.

That reminds me of being 10 and looking it up when not knowing it was .gov at school of all places. The kicker was that they were not filtering the internet then.

I miss totally unregulated music sharing/downloading a la Naptster, 1998. Good times.

Those were the best days ever. So cool to see the PC grow to what it is now.

They have gone to the other extreme now, at first it was text and a few graphics, then it was a balance of text and graphics and now they have gone too far towards too many graphics and too little text. It's funny to see the pendulum swing. It will slowly go back towards the middle again as more learn to use a balance of text to graphics to communicate effectively.
Some sites make it hard to figure out how to find the things you want because they leave out too much text and you have to mouse over graphics and read the alt text (tool tip) to see where it points.

this makes me want to load up nutscrape navigator for a trip down memory lane....nah.

No adblockers needed.

Click this shit if ya want the news, and of course..... What site was it again... astalavista.sk.ru.co or some damn thing?

I'd rather have just text than things like paypal deciding you need to see full page video on a login page

I bet it would be pretty neat to see, but the page doesn't render properly in Chrome.

Wasn't it altavista.box.sk? I wonder if it's still around. Yes. I am too lazy to look.

I kinda prefer the old look, it seemed more functional. Lots of hyperlinks everywhere to get straight where you want to go, and not too flash heavy.
