Blue's News has all the info on today's Rainbow Six: Siege patch. The biggest change is the new permanent bans for cheating, no more three-day suspensions for first-time offenders.

The changes described below will take effect on January 13th for PC and on January 20th for consoles, except the server tick rate improvement, the anti-cheating and banning policy improvements as well as the out-of-zone insta-kill option which is effective for all immediately (read below for details). This patch will be released on PC first because of the faster deployment process, in order to test the impact the fixes have and adjust if needed.

"effective immediately, any cheating detected by the system will lead to a permanent ban, with no more three-day suspensions for first-time offenders."

Other devs please take note.

I wish they and other developers would take a page out of Microsoft's playbook. Don't just ban the accounts, BAN THEIR SYSTEMS TOO! That way they'll need to either do a massive change to their system (which'll incur not just a hardware cost but also re-buying Windows again too), or they'll have to buy a new system outright. The only major issue is the possibility of false positives.

I couldn't care less if people cheat in single-player games but the rampant cheating in multiplayer has really soured me personally. I've lost count of the number of cheaters I've seen first-hand using one of the popular cheat apps on TF2 that get away with it. Hell they don't even try to hide it since the app announces in chat that it's being used. VAC doesn't detect it either. Since it's free to play the worst that'll happen to them is that their account gets banned but all they gotta do is create a new account and they're back in business. Ban the system though? Now that's going to be tougher to get around (though I'm sure someone will come out with a system hash faker or something like that to get around it). :/

How are people cheating in this game? I can barely get the freakin' matchmaking to put me into a single game! How about we fix that first?

And personally I think banning people permanently from any game for cheating is stupid. It's a game and they're having fun in their own way but there isn't any need for them to ruin the game for anyone else. So take a page from the Rockstar playbook with GTA V: You want to cheat? Great! You get to share servers with nothing but other cheaters! And anyone on cheater servers plays for zero renown.

I would prefer them sending the personal info of the gamer to everyone they had played with and sad people being allowed legally to go break their hands with a tack hammer. But that is just me.

Perma bans seem like a nice second choice.

Yea I am torn on this one. I do think that they are just enjoying their game, but I do feel that removing them from matchmaking would be sufficient because I myself am also paying to enjoy it. And it is also a numbers thing. One cheater pissed off is one person, but one cheater can make a whole group of people start to sour their taste for the game, so which would make more sense?

Ban them to only servers that are full of cheaters like where all cheaters go...Cheater Hell or something.

Uhh, rockstar doesn't do that. Have you tried playing GTA online on PC?

One cheater will just sit there and spam a button spawning explosions on the 20+ other players on the server. Yay, fun. Or you don't have any cheaters and are just engaging in some random free-roam combat and then a cheater joins and now everyone has dildos sticking out of their characters heads while asteroids spawn in on the ground getting in the way of everything. Find another server, end up with another cheater. Rockstar doesn't do squat, and it's so rampant you might as well not even bother playing unless you're in a crew of people who you know don't cheat. Rockstar's policies, even if they do bother with anything after they've detected the cheats, are so lax no one cares.

The matchmaking thing was rockstars attempt at "something" by having a bad player pool(and dunce cap on your character's head) for people being excessively disruptive, however the cheaters can just take themselves out of the bad player pool anyway, making it pointless. If people want to mess with trainers or whatever in single player, I don't care. But all they do is disrupt the game in multiplayer to the point where you can switch sessions 10 times in an hour and if you go more than a few minutes without a cheater in a lobby with more than a half dozen people consider yourself lucky.

Oh, and I forgot a couple other things. There's also the cheaters that spawn duplicate clones if your character stuck to you to the point where your game just crashes. And then if you're in a lobby with a cheater who is screwing stuff up your game can end up bugged if you try doing missions/jobs/etc. until you restart the game. Yeah, that's real fun. Cheat in single player all you want, but the moment they screw with everyone else I have no problem with the idea of permanently banning them from the game.

It might have been console only or they have given up but he is / was correct about GTA

If you were caught with counterfeit money or other things like that they put you into a special server but they also did just ban some people out right

Goddammit. I will buy this game just for this reason alone. Cheaters ruined Payday 2, which was formerly one of my favorite games of all time.

Im just waiting for the price to drop on the game. Its nice to know when I buy it though it wont be destroyed by cheaters.

The ban won't do much. R6 has a flawed engine that's wide open to exploits. Google for ArtificalAiming and you'll see what I mean. The only people who get banned are those who use less than professional cheats. Helios framework users can't be detected by the system. That's been true ever since ever.

Well it's not the case anymore, and like I said the cheaters can just change their bad player stat to end up right back in normal public lobbies anyway. They still do ban some cheaters on occasion, but it's nowhere near enough to at least scare the bulk of the 12 year olds or whatever into not wanting to risk it.
