Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB Edition is a winner for power users

LOL! I am hardly anywhere close to what trendies like to call a 1%er! But it is not exactly un-affordable! If you remember back in the day XP cost around $200, So $260 was not much of a difference, I know it's a insane amount to pay! But for me it's worth it! You can disable all the crap! There is zero metro! The boot time is even faster that Windows 8.1. And my average FPS is about 15% better, And FPS dips are very rare. My CPU usage is down about 10% Gaming is flawless! They should make a Windows 10 gaming version similar to this build! But they like to spy so much they never will!

Fine, so you got it. Great. WHERE did you get it? Can I buy it too?

The credit card you purchased your OS and hardware from track your spending habits. Used PayPal? They do too. Walked into BestBuy or Frys to get the hardware and paid cash? You still are a part of their metric data for hardware sales. Google has bots that scan forums like this and read data posted here, your choice of OS has nothing to do with that either. Your ISP collects data on what you use your connection for and using a VPN to tunnel your data past the ISP only gives it to your VPN provider to mine. If you don't like being a part of a huge data mining statistic, you have the wrong hobby and your choice of OS is less than a drop in the bucket for what data you provide freely every day. Better delete your account here and smash your filthy data mining computer just to be safe. You wouldn't want Microsoft to have your statistics, especially since out of the 200 million Windows 10 pcs, they are specifically watching you.

This very relevant fact seems lost in the hysteria.

Smartphone? OH Hellz yea!
Windows 10? WTF MY PRIVACIES!!

I could care less about the data collecting, it is the loss of control I despise.

Want to keep Win 10 from using up your bandwidth by phoning home?
Want to prevent Win 10 from using your PC and internet (which I pay for) to peer-2-peer share updates with others?
Want to uninstall every little POS "app"/"utility" (bloatware)?

Yeah, can't do any of those with Win 10 (yet), hence I will stay with my stripped down Win 7 and Archlinux for now.

That old fallacy again...

Who says that privacy-conscious people use an out-of-the-box smartphone? Or that they use a smartphone at all for more than making calls? Who says they don't use Cyanogenmod?

Ass-u-me much?

So its ok for Apple, Google, FB and pretty much every other big corp to have rampant privacy violations and outrageous policies, but MS is the evil one?

If MS sends some anonymous bits of data back to identify your hw and OS, that's a privacy concern, but Apple/Google logging/tracking everything you do using hidden cookies and whatnot is ok?

This is just the good old 'MS is evil' FUD ans hatemongering, nothing else.

And I've been a very vocal critic of W8 and W10 in many aspects, but its still a FAr better OS than any alternative. And why exactly would you disable OneDrive, uninstall IE11 etc etc? Don't use them if you don't want to. This is like people who obsessed over nLite and reducing system images down to 300MB and then whine about stuff that was broken.

I am not assuming anything. The only relevant bit here is Win10 has some additional data collection metrics for reliability/modern apps, about which we have no details, and it enables p2p sharing of updates in the same network, which would actually reduce your bandwidth costs a lot since it'd use the LAN.

Other than that, there's only the philosophical objection to modern apps, Windows Store, Cortana, UI etc, none of which are mandatory and cause no impact. Its exactly like people disabling all kinds of services to make their pc run 'faster' which was a myth.

If there are concrete stats on why Win10 is so much worse, I'd like to see them posted here. A commercial OS is never going to be your best choice for privacy if you care that much. Roll your own Liniux distro and OSS apps, even then you can't avoid using commercial websites or data networks.

You said

So its ok for Apple, Google, FB and pretty much every other big corp to have rampant privacy violations and outrageous policies ...

and I don't see any validation for that. If that's your justification for anything, then there is no need to oppose anything, because via majority rule, it's automatically OK.

Well, gee, I'm glad we have the issue nailed down!

And you know it is anonymous how?

Oh that is right you don't.

And telemetry spyware isn't w10 only they've crammed the malware as updates to w7 and w8 too. And it isn't just to identify your hardware, they're logging all your local drive searches for starters.

I use my OS for everything, I do not use FB/Apple/Google for much....Not the same comparison.

Net-Net, can I, as an home LAN user, use this TLSB without the risk that one morning my PCs and laptops will refuse to boot? How legally, assuming that I qualify for the free upgrade from Win 7?

Somehow I don't believe that msnbot-*.search.msn.com is a host you connect _to_. Since he doesn't mention it explicitly, one must assume he simply logged all connection attempts, even those from the Internet to his public address.

so I read that there is a new LTSB coming on October 1 correct? or is it the current LTSB 2016 (1607/14393)?

Current.
I grabbed this (en_windows_10_enterprise_2016_ltsb_n_x64_dvd_9057894.iso) earlier just to check, and winver shows 1607 (OS Build 14393.187) in VirtualBox.

I assume you are outside of the USA? That's the N version. I just checked USA volume licensing site and only 2015 is up.

i dont see the dl for the new ltsb version, but i do see they changed the name of the old one to ltsb 2015.

No, and yes, I know. It's in a VM, not licensed, no product key. Just testing. Prefer the N variant because it's even less bloated than the regular LTSB.

MSDN? Not sure how you're getting it prior to official release date.

As for torrented OSes, check the convenient SHA1 checksum on the MSDN page.

I checked a fair few torrent sources and none of them yet have this new 1067 version :( It doesnt seem to be spreading well.

It all stems to the fact that Microsoft is treating you like slaves even though you should be treated like customers. You're owned by MS if you can't break out their ecosystem.

My daughter just asked me to downgrade her gaming box because Microsofts own gamepad doesn't work on Windows 10...

What gamepad?

Ive got the LTSB installed and dual booting right, but I don't feel like spending hours getting it setup the way I want it and right now the only feature it has I want is SMB 3.x support.

Was the LTSB installed over another version of Windows 10? ... a fresh install and if so, how did you license it?

THANK YOU!!! They sure made this hard to find, and I couldn't find documentation anywhere on how to do it. It's baffling that they don't give at least users of Professional Edition the choice of OFF in the regular dropdown.

So as of 2016 version of the LTSB, this is even not possible anymore!

I keep mine set to 1 so that feature upgrades can be delayed.

For 0, Windows Defender data is probably for the cloud scanning stuff. They''re just covering their basis and making sure you understand some data is sent back.

I never liked windows 10 at all. But I must agree Win 10 LTSB is a slam dunk of a winner. If you are a Win 10 hater but need the goodness of the new OS, then LTSB is for you.

Well technically you CAN by not having your windows 10 computer running. This is the route I chose :)

The post you replied to is from 2016. That option is there now. Settings => Update & Security => Advanced => Delivery Optimization. You can even have it P2P within your network but not outside.

Well someone necrobumped the thread.

You mean the option to disable the p2p, the rest of the points are still a problem. With every new version of WIndows, Microsoft is taking more control away from the end user. This is a bad bad development and I don't consider Windows usable as a daily driver anymore.

Hi,
I am considering installing the enterprise edition, are there any key programs that may not work with it ? I am currently on windows 10 64bit. I take it drivers and suchforth are the same. Sorry if its a dumb question
