Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen coming to PC

Do you like Action-adventure games? Do you like Shadow of the colossus? Dark Souls?

If you like all of the above you'll love it.

The gameplay and world is what holds it up, it's just a fun action-adventure game with a very memorable and fun character/combat system along with it's unique feeling with having pawns (npc's) that make up your party and do things in combat.

Good deal.

Price is certainly in to "why the hell not?" territory especially with GMG discounts.

Honestly, the pawn system alone is genius in this game. Aside from that, it does a good deal to allow you to play to your own style. Sword, bow, magic, etc. The story isn't bad, and is compelling enough to keep you going.
Dark Arisen added a sort of non-linear, "demon souls-esque" gameplay to the game as well.

It can be hack and slack at times, but I enjoy those type of games. IDK. It ranks in my top 10 favorite games of all time.

I'll admit, I'm a little disappointed that I didn't do the 20% off pre-order coupon from greenman gaming. Steam won't pricematch after pre-ordering, will they?

I don't agree. Dark souls can infuriate me. I've played demon, dark souls 2, and bloodborne, only finished bloodborne.

I thought shadow of the colossus was the dumbest thing.

I really liked dragons dogma.

I agree with that. I was intrigued by demon souls, hated dark souls, and could never play shadows of col for more than 45 minutes.

this game has all the buzzwords for what makes a great game for me--- atmosphere, difficulty, combat...as a huge Dark Souls fan, I'm in for Dark Arisen

yea i can't wait to try this game out
got my copy off GMG for $22.50

DD: DA is a fantastic game and I`m happy that PC gamers get a chance to finally play it as well.

Great and varied soundtrack (give it a listen in Youtube), reasonably sized open world (not huge, but plenty of different locations), neat if sometimes frustrating pawn system and genuinely satisfying combat create a surprisingly compelling package.

It also has a consistent world philosophy running underneath the plot that you will end up discovering as the game proceeds. It starts as a "murder mystery", if you will. This isn´t really game driven by character interaction, but it is still more so than something like Dark Souls is.

Dark Arisen DLC also gives you access to an island area where the game gets somewhat hardcore in terms of difficulty (just be prepared before you go there). Main game can actually be bit easy at times if you end up exploring and grinding too much.

BTW, I preordered this from GMG and I got 20% off with a coupon. If you check they might a have a 23% off coupon now. I got my key immediately BTW so it's already on my steam list waiting :)

I used my 25% off coupon that GMG emailed me on the 12/26/15. It is entitled, "25% off Upcoming Blockbusters | Voucher inside". I guess it only works on upcoming titles that you can preorder.

another small early impressions article on the PC port...

Ever since the PC port was announced, I’ve been eagerly anticipating experiencing the game all over again, and having now spent a few weeks with a preview build from Capcom, I can happily report that this is shaping up to be the best version of Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen you can buy...playing this on a relatively modest PC rig, running a 750ti and i5-4670k, I’ve had virtually no issues with most settings on high while running in 1080p, maintaining 60 frames per second throughout...even in some of the dense, forested sections, encountering larger enemies like the Chimera, Dark Arisen on PC doesn’t seem to hitch up at all...

Good to see and hear that they likely did a proper port to the PC instead of half-assing it. I assume most modest builds will run the game well, considering that the game is three years old and wasn't really ground breaking at release in regards to graphic level.

two weeks! Can't wait to dive back in.

Well the game wasn't recently ported, this "port" is basically only happening because someone internal at Capcom basically on their own free time years ago created a PC "version" of the game, less a port. That version basically got green-lit and was always rumored to run far better than the console versions were.

I think a lot of PC gamers don't understand what DD was, but hot damn man.. this port/version is literally going to be one of the best action RPGs on the PC in several years.

Dragon's Dogma devs on bringing the 2012 RPG to PC

The intriguing, innovative RPG Dragon's Dogma will finally arrive on PC on January 15, but what does the game's sudden re-emergence mean for the series (Dragon's Dogma 2 could happen)?...and how will the PC edition differ from the original console release?...We put a few questions to DDDA producer, Minae Matsukawa, director Kento Kinoshita, and PC producer Jon Airhart...

The game is built on the same engine that powers Resident Evil 6, so it should run extremely well on PC.

Preload is available now ... downloading :) But we won't be playing it till the end of next week :(

3 more days!...I'm really hyped for this game...feels like I'm playing Dark Souls 1 again having to learn all these new mechanics etc...seems like the game did not sell all that well during its original release and gained new life through word of mouth...

So why did it wind up selling half a million copies in Japan and, well, not quite so much anywhere else?

The big gripe from what I've heard is that the world is huge and there is little, if any, fast travel.

those are positives to me...I love huge worlds and I don't like to use fast travel until I've discovered most or all of the world on foot

There is a fast travel system. In the original, it was more difficult as you needed to spend large amounts of money for ferrystones. With the expansions (and as it will be in the PC version) you will have an "eternal ferrystone" which will allow you to fast travel to various locations on demand. There is still a lot of running around, but I 100% encourage that, as it is part of the gameplay and there is a lot of world to explore! I actually tried to use the ferrystone as little as possible.

I knowwww! It sucks having it sitting there in my library, downloaded and unplayable. Can't we just bend the rules a little?

I guess I should pay closer attention. I thought this was going to be unlocked last night.
Gives me a few more days to blow through some additional side missions in Arkham Knight I guess!

so how many hours of content does this game have? Do you level up? Is there grinding (with respawning enemies) to make leveling easier? I already picked this up, just wondering what to expect

You level up, and enemies do respawn. So you could grind, but it's not necessary and might just overpower you and make stuff too easy later in the main game if you really get carried away. Bitterblack Isle will probably always make you yearn for a little extra power, though.

Yeah, it is more of a journeyman game. A little bit linear in it's design, but allows you a large world to explore on your own as you wish.

so is it linear or are you able to explore areas that may be too high level too soon?

Totalbiscuit's port report:

Seems like it's a pretty good port for an older game, it's not a remaster (so the graphics aren't terribly great compared to modern games) but overall things are done well, framerate that isn't tied to physics (yay, an old game that does this better than fallout 4) and no more black bars. Controls well with both kb/m and controllers.

Preloading now. I had this on PS3, and the only reason I didn't play the shit out of it was because of the framerate issues. Playing on my PC is going to be so awesome...

the PC port itself sounds very impressive...apparently kb/m support is very well done- all of the keys can be remapped, there’s a camera sensitivity slider to play with until the mouse feels right, the mouse works on all menus and they’ve even implemented an alternative way to fire the bow

frame-rate tops out at 150...you can also choose to lock it to 30 or 60 if you like...the anti-aliasing options are FXAA/FXAA3/FXAA3HQ

they also added a ‘Pawn Chatter’ toggle on PC...if players get tired of hearing their pawns gassing on about formidable foes and packs of wolves, they can now silence their verbose allies...they’ll still offer you advice if you speak directly to them, but otherwise keep lips sealed...switching between keyboard/mouse and controller can be done mid-game, on the fly...all button prompts will switch accordingly, too

well done Capcom!

I'll be grabbing this shortly. I recognized the name, but don't own those consoles, (well my son does, but...) This is the first I've seen of it, and it looks like fun to me.

You can explore areas out of your level. Access to Bitterblack Isle is available right in the starting town, i don't recommend going there as it was intended as a end game content expansion.

Live, but I took 3 painkillers and can't stay awake. :(

:D I just got out of surgery when the original Dead Space was released. Was heavily pain-killed, and the game already had a very narrow FOV. I could only play for 15 minutes at a time, but I kept at it. :D Don't know if that was the wisest thing to do, but...

I used AMD's VSR tech to run the game at 3200x1800 and it looks amazing for an older title. Nvidia's DSR should work just as well also. Also the keyboard layout makes sense unlike those Dark Souls games that I can't play because I'm controller illiterate.

Ha ha that's some dedication!

Can't stay awake? When I was on percocet I played the shit out of Saints Row 4, for hours, game was amazing.

They tend to wire me too, but I get nauseous if I look at screens in that state for more than a few minutes. I don't normally have any sort of motion sickness, but in that case I get it pretty bad.

Ah, that sucks. Maybe the doc could find a different drug ;)
