If the data mentioned in this article is accurate, Bing is the only search engine that hasn’t stagnated.

Reaching 20 percent in the search business was clearly an important achievement for Microsoft, but at the same time, Google also lost ground in the last few months. While it had flat performance in the last couple of months, Google is now at 63.9 percent, down from no less than 67 percent a year ago, and there's no doubt that Microsoft is also partly responsible for this decline.

But bing is a terrible search engine. It takes you 5x the effort to find what you are looking for with bing. I would rather use ixquick...

At least in the US it works well. I have no problem finding stuff with Bing no matter the subject. Google does a better job at searching forums like this one. Plus you can around $10 months if you do the maximum daily searches awarded points through Bing Rewards, at least for now. I have a feeling now that Bing is starting to get established and become profitable the Rewards program is going to go away.

I guess this has nothing to do with the fact BING is the default search engine for Windows installs and a bunch of people just upgraded to 8.1 then 10 in the past couple years right :p

Bing works a LOT better for porn but other than that Google, whether it's worse, same, or better, always seems to work fine for me so I've just had no desire to really try anything else.

Well I assume if you have such a massive share it can only go down.

Just like when Apple says they are growing year after year, and pc's own 90% of the market. Breaking that last 10% is hard as hell, but getting 2% the other way is a lot easier.

Bing for general searches is excellent. I use it as my primary search. Only time I go to Google is for, oddly enough - Windows error codes. Google finds more relevant results than Bing for those.

Maybe people are tired of how searching for almost anything on Google leads to 3-4 pages of product pages, rather than some forum topics that tell you how to solve your problem.

The removal of the discussion search was one of Google's biggest blunders, imo. I literally wanted to go over there and strangle whoever in their office decided that idiocy.

I guess Google's dominance has nothing to do with it being the default search engine for several alternative browsers in the aughts and the default for Chrome and all Android devices.

I'm sure you're right, but Bing was the default on Explorer for years, so this isn't that big a difference. What's more, the more Bing is used, the better it will become.

Google is better for almost all technical searches (software, programming, hardware issues and so on ).

I hear this a lot and used to think it as well but these days it's very rare that I don't good results for technical searches on Bing.

It's just like internet explorer. When Bing is the default in Microsoft products, of course that's going to impact it's market share, just like internet explorer. A lot of people just use what's put in front of them. Not all of them even know about alternatives. What's convenient isn't always what's best.

Compared to Google the advertising hub Bing is pure crap for searching.

That is exactly my opinion of Foogle and thus why I stopped using it in favor of Bing. After using Bing, I could actually find what I was looking for.

I find both function well, except for images. Bing is light years ahead of Google in that regard.

Don't know why.

after what google did to ipad users, (forced lame mobile search when the screen is big enough for desktop) it means switching search engines, or switching to a browser with user agent spoofing. I'm guessing a few pussed off people opted for the former.

Doesn't that same logic also apply to those who use google simply because it is the default in chrome or on their android phone?

Still using privacy search with DuckDuckGo and don't plan on changing even if it doesn't spit out as many urls.

There is an addon for Firefox called 'Modify Headers' to help with that. Yesterday I had youtube thinking I was on an iPhone when I was on a desktop PC and right now I am running Opera but it is really Firefox.

Love me my bing, been using it since ~3 months after it came out, used it even more after the rewards came out, but I've found it better for my cisco code errors at work so I've stuck with it besides when I need to do people/forum searches.

Not to mention Bing is tied in with Cortana - I think.

No because you have to install Chrome as opposed to already having a browser in Windows. But yes on Android phones.

Not to mention, Edge made it a little trickier to figure out how to make Google the default search engine.

I noticed just yesterday in Windows Firewall there have been added a bunch allow out rules with Bing crap so I deleted all of them.

No because you have to install Chrome as opposed to already having a browser in Windows.

Chrome is by far the most popular browser, and is often bundled with other software. Google constantly runs ads pushing chrome, which countless people click on.

Not sure why you are giving Chrome a free pass when it comes to google being the default search engine. I would argue that more people use Google as the result of Chrome than Bing as a result of Edge/IE, or anything related to windows defaults.

I agree, I got lazy and looked up a pre made circuit diagram for a small amp. Couldn't find a good one using Google but had hundreds with Bing instantly.

I wasn't giving them a pass. I'm just saying that Google being compared to Bing's being thrusted on us isn't the same when it comes to Windows because you actually have to download and install Chrome. You chose to use Google in Windows whereas you don't chose to use Google by default unless you know how to change the default search engine.

I know it's anecdotal, but in my 8 years of IT, I've yet to meet one user who changed Internet Explorer (and recently Edge) default search engine unless they've either 1. installed the Google toolbar via Java or Adobe Reader or whatever, or 2. installed Chrome.

Yep. I'm astonished at how many people don't use this. They give you free Amazon gift cards just for searching.

It's buried in a menu like every other browser it's literally 3 clicks away. It's not like Edge has super deep user preferences to get lost in seriously take someone 3 mins clicking and reading everything in options at most. Just because you're not familiar with the layout doesn't make it inherently trickier than any other browser.

Which is what people who use google for years don't get, that google like most top search engines tailor the searched based on many factors including ip-address/google account. Probably a consideration for when google wanted to unify the youtube accounts is so that people don't log out of their youtube account like they would their gmail account, so they could keep better track of people. Keep users logged in keep better track of them.

Doubtful. Google is still the best for granular search where you can filter down to time range, specific site, etc.

Windows 10 have anything to do with this? and being giving away for free and setting Bing as default for IE..

Eh, I use Firefox and duckduckgo for my searching. Seems to work fine. I'm just lucky enough at work to be able to install what I want on my machine. Most of the employees are locked down very tightly by IT.

I have to say that I stay logged out of Google 99.9% of the time. I don't even except cookies if I don't have to and most of their java script is blocked by default, though I have to turn it on for some pages. I could probably count the number of times I've logged into Youtube on my fingers and toes.

I do have a sense that Bing could be useful for some searches but damn if I don't always use Google anyway
