All I need is space for: CPU, single 2.5" SSD and an internal PSU.

While there's some very nice tiny cases with external psu's or powerpacks I'd just rather have it all enclosed.

Everything I've found with internal psu still allows space for 2x 3.5" hdds etc. Wondering if there's anything even more compact.

Off-the-shelf cases that come to my mind are the Antec ISK-300/310-150 and the SilverStone ML06(-e).

IN WIN BQ656

I had one. The internal PSU has a tiny fan that was maybe 20mm or 30mm. While the outright volume of noise was low it was omnipresent and obtrusive to my ears while on the desk. If mounted behind the monitor or elsewhere (under desk, etc) it may not be as objectionable.

Why do you even need a 2.5" drive? M.2 is where it's at.

edit: re-read your OP. Are you wanting a dedicated GPU? Wasn't mentioned in OP and so if not, I'll second the recommendation for a NUC. Even the smallest ITX doesn't even compare. These suckers literally fit in the palm of your hand. The Skylake ones are out now. The only reason to go full blown ITX is if you are gonna run a dGPU.

Or if you want more than a mobile dual core. (Although Intel does have 5x5 coming out for that...) And, the OP doesn't want a power brick.

Unofficial Osmi thread…

I am really partial to this chassis as of late; it has provisions for 1x ODD, 1x 2.5" SSD & 1x 3.5" HDD. You can mount a second 2.5" SSD where the 3.5" HDD is if needed. Fits mITX only, prefers SFX PSU, but will do SFX-L if no 3.5" HDD or you want really tight connectors. 180mm x 180mm x 250mm.

Reason I didn't want a NUC is because I thought they all had external power-bricks. Is that correct?

Osmi looks beautiful

That is indeed correct, but with a bit of clever modding, you could use an SFX or FlexATX PSU with your NUC, making it the smallest PC possible that meets your requirement. If you were to do that, though, you'd probably have to use a custom case or find one that is suitable for modding.

Honestly the new one is more of a (small) wall-wart than a traditional "brick"

I just bought one of those newer slim NUC's and it is a thing of beauty, truly. It is so damn small. My USB DVD burner looks like a giant next to it.

Those HD-Plex nanoATX units are quite interesting, didn't know about those.
The only issue I could see is that not all NUCs seem to have an internal power connector, so modding would still be required.

With this PSU in mind, I'd strongly recommend taking a look at the Akasa Tesla H, that seems to fit the bill perfectly, and it's even 100% passively cooled!

This takes the cake. It is ugly, cheap and might suffocate your CPU cooler, but it's certainly the smallest you can get with those components.

Compact Stylish Mini-ITX Enclosure
Smooth Aluminum Front Panel with Contemporary Touch
Next Generation Cooling Performance
Outstanding Potential for Silent Operation
Conveniently Located Front I/O Ports
Strategically Placed Side Ventilation Aid in Cooling
Accommodate either 2x 2.5" or 1x 3.5" HDD

See…!?! It is Stylish, and Contemporary…

Has Next-Gen Cooling Performance…

Oh, wait… The "Outstanding Potential for Silent Operation", that just might point to how it goes into UltraQuiet Mode once it dies from suffocation…?!?
