I have read of mixed success using the setup noted in my thread title and various versions of Windows (I am currently sticking with Windows 7 x64).

Some report the 950 using an PCIe to PCIe 3.0 x4 adapter in various Z77 boards will boot Windows, some say there will be a delay, some have reported being hurled back into the BIOS, etc.

I have a Sabertooth Z77 with UEFI BIOS,
I would put the adapter in the bottom PCIe slot.
It is listed as PCI 2.0 x 16_3 "Max at x4 mode" in the Sabertooth manual (I think there may be a typo and it should be listed as PCI 3.0.)

The adapter I would be trying in the Sabertooth Z77 is:
http://www.amazon.com/Lycom-DT-120-PCIe-Adapter-Support/dp/B00MYCQP38

I have 3 questions:

1.) Would this setup work?
2.) If it did work, once booted would the performance be effectively similar to a Z170 with the Samsung 950 Pro in an M.2 slot?
3.) Any other known gotchas?

Thanks!

It sounds like a horrible idea.

That slot is a pcie v2.0 slot, max at x4, but defaults to x1.

The other 3 pcie v2.0 x1 slots eat those x4 lanes, leaving only x1 left.

Yea sounds like a terrible idea. I wouldnt spend the time and effort on it personally.
