Battlefield 4 **Official Discussion Thread**

Patch is shit. They gave in to the idiots who wanted 1 infantryman to be able to be equal to 1 MBT/IFV and nerfed them again.

- HMGs are useless. Less power than a pistol, short range.

- Vehicles get stuck on everything.

- Random vehicle jumping, typically when hitting infantry. I think this is intentional.

- Active protection doesn't work against RPGs. Another win for the n00bs.

- Active protection lasts about 1 second.

- Time to switch weapons in AFV takes obscenely long. The pause is often 3-4 seconds and it overlaps. You may get stuck in a period in which you can't shoot for 7-10 seconds because you switched back and fourth too quick.

- Vehicles slide. Its like Mario Kart banana peels, minus the banana peel. And you're sitting still.

- People slide. Good luck aiming when you're slipping all over the place.

- AFV cannons damage reduced against infantry. Now you'll need a good 5-7 direct hits. You're better off using a TOW or AP main gun round than your cannon or HMG. Some great balance work.

- Shitty remake map from one of the most over rated games in history, BF2. Map is cluttered and funneled. Vehicles get stuck on everything and you spend more time trying to get yourself free from the unnecessary sliding/jumping nerfs. This results in long travel distances with very little actual combat areas.

- More lag than ever. Thankfully we now have a lag flashing thing that blows the right side of your screen. Because cutting off our visibility is just what we need to deal with artificial lag enhancers.

At this point they should remove the map and roll back the game version. They should try again with a real map and not a shitty BF2 and add no new "bug fixes". And EA should strongly consider letting DICE/DICE LA go. They can contract out to far better studios. Without EA DICE will die within a few years which would be a wonderful thing.
trolling??

DICE LA has been widely considered a huge success with their turn around of BF4 since they took over. Most of your complaints seem to stem from lag issues as well.

He isn't trolling so much as exaggerating for effect due to frustration. However, some of it is valid complaints such as the HMG and other vehicle nerfs. Vehicles getting stuck is a problem with the map, and that happens with just about every map release (it happened a lot on Giants of Karelia) and it will get fixed eventually.

The sliding and jumping enemy vehicles is a direct result of packet loss. The computer and the server are arguing on your current position. FWIW, I've noticed it appear on several servers this past week, before the client side patch. I'm also willing to bet something else has changed either with recent issues with his ISP, the server he was on (servers also got a patch recently), or his own connection. I have my doubts it has anything to do with the client side patch since I've seen this behavior before. It could also be the map itself is buggy...but again the map and patch are 2 distinct things. I will see how it plays tonight as I only put in a small amount of time this morning. The only other thing I wonder about is the tick rate of the server he was playing on. The 60hz 64 man servers are performing terribly compared to the de facto 30-40hz 64 man servers right now due to either inefficient code or just sheer lack of CPU power on the server side. However 60hz servers work really well on 32 man and below.

Dragon Valley was the map that won by popular vote when they did the massive survey earlier this year. It wasn't my first choice, but the map looks fantastic compared to its previous version. The map has always had some odd, semi linear vehicle battles due to the riverbank and the roads alongside it. Honestly, we get it for free so I don't think I can complain too much.

As far as letting DICE/LA go, that part is laughable. They are the sole reason this game is actually playable. DICE Sweden fucked up the launch, then made things worse with the first couple patches and several of the DLC's (anyone remember Naval Strike the first few weeks?). DICE LA took over in June 2014 and has been responsible for the CTE project (which in of itself has cured many of BF4's issues), Dragon's Teeth DLC, Final Stand DLC, and the Zavod night map (free), Community Operations (Operation Outbreak, free), Legacy Operations (remade Dragon Valley, free), and every patch since. Personally, I considered BF4 finally playable since the Fall Patch of 2014 when they raised the tick rate to equal BF3's 30hz and that too was a result of DICE/LA. DICE Sweden is the team that needs to be looked at. They messed up the BF4 launch then half assed patching it as they transitioned to SW Battlefront which they also messed up (not with bugs but lack of features). Even if DICE/LA monumentally fucked up this patch, I believe they still deserve a second chance due to all the positive work they have put in so far.

The lag indicator has been there for over a year. It also doesn't take up much of the screen. I'm not sure what the complaint is about it. IIRC it changed colors from white to red-orange in the Spring 2015 patch.

^ I agree. but to be honest I really don't think DICE Sweden deserves another chance at a major release. BF4 at launch was a disaster and was basically bad game overall until DICE LA fixed a metric fuck ton of issues. And like you said now look at Battelfront which is an awful game and is bombing hard, especially on PC. Sometimes it is just better to cut off the infected limb. Let them handle the DLCs (they can actually do this relatively well). But the core of the development should be all DICE LA.

DICE Sweden is ruining these game series.

Update. Played for 2 hours tonight. Replies in red. You really need to read the patch notes. You also need to read the previous patch notes before you start calling this patch shit because most of what your complaining about on weapon nerfs is oooooooollld news.

Patch is shit. They gave in to the idiots who wanted 1 infantryman to be able to be equal to 1 MBT/IFV and nerfed them again.
Nope. The only nerf to the MBT and IFV is on the HE shell and Staff shell. The only buff to infantry anti-tank rockets was to the MBT law. The AA missiles both soldier and vehicle based are the only thing that got decent buffs.

- HMGs are useless. Less power than a pistol, short range.
No nerfs to the HMG's in this patch. In fact they got a slight buff because they fixed the autoloader perk. The HMG's got a velocity buff but a damage nerf in the FALL patch.

- Vehicles get stuck on everything.
Surprisingly, this happened only twice to me on the new map. Both in the LAV which is notorious for it. First when entering the river at a steep angle, second when I drove through a building and got stuck on a wall which happens on every other map and happened in BF3. Not sure what your issue is.

- Random vehicle jumping, typically when hitting infantry. I think this is intentional.
Ya...definitely trolling. That would be the stupidest game mechanic ever. It's a bug, or more likely the fact you are dropping packets and the server and client are arguing on where the object's position is.

- Active protection doesn't work against RPGs. Another win for the n00bs.
100% false. Used AP tonight several times to protect my tank against RPG's. It worked on an RPG-7 and the SMAW.

- Active protection lasts about 1 second.
This was shortened to 2.5 seconds (not 1 second) in the Fall patch, not this patch. It also reloads quicker.

- Time to switch weapons in AFV takes obscenely long. The pause is often 3-4 seconds and it overlaps. You may get stuck in a period in which you can't shoot for 7-10 seconds because you switched back and fourth too quick.
Again, not true. You have some other issue. Most likely the lag again. I've seen it before several times over the past 2 years since the game came out.

- Vehicles slide. Its like Mario Kart banana peels, minus the banana peel. And you're sitting still.
You are dropping packets. The only place I slid was on the side of a hill.
- People slide. Good luck aiming when you're slipping all over the place.
You are dropping packets. You admitted to such by saying you are seeing the indicator.

- AFV cannons damage reduced against infantry. Now you'll need a good 5-7 direct hits. You're better off using a TOW or AP main gun round than your cannon or HMG. Some great balance work.
See previous remark. The changes to the secondary guns on the MBT and IFV occurred in the Fall patch, not this one.

- Shitty remake map from one of the most over rated games in history, BF2. Map is cluttered and funneled. Vehicles get stuck on everything and you spend more time trying to get yourself free from the unnecessary sliding/jumping nerfs. This results in long travel distances with very little actual combat areas.
You are entitled to your opinion on this, but I suspect you didn't play it very long. This map is MASSIVE. On Conquest Large it should only be played with 64 people otherwise combat is few and far between. Combat isn't really funneled except at a couple flags along the river front and one flag on the center island. Most of the flags have massive infantry areas to fight in with plenty of buildings.

- More lag than ever. Thankfully we now have a lag flashing thing that blows the right side of your screen. Because cutting off our visibility is just what we need to deal with artificial lag enhancers.
I don't know what your issue is, but I had zero lag tonight. For 2+ hours. My packet loss indicator came on ONCE tonight for 5 seconds. That's it. I played on a 45hz server. Also the packet loss indicator is tiny and in the upper right of your screen just below the kill feed. If it's taking up a significant portion of your screen you might be running at an insanely low resolution like 720p. lol.
So I'm going to recant my previous post and say you are trolling with most of this diatribe. Either that, or you have zero clue on how bad the high refresh rate servers are performing on 64 man servers. If so, go back to a 30-45hz conquest server. Save the 60hz ones for infantry maps.

Indeed the HMG nerf is from the last patch, but it is worth highlighting the continuous vehicle nerfing. RPG, SMAW, SRAW, Javelin you name it. Everything went right through active protection. So lets not play 64 player servers, but the map is meant for it. Some great planning there. Too many noobs want one infantryman to counter one vehicle. Great, 4-5 vehicles on a map with 40-64 people total. That will be totally balanced.

The TDM/DOM version sucks to. It is a noob (sniper) map. Great for those that can't use any other weapon so they must rely on the most accurate, long range weapon class that works just as good as a PDW in close quarters. The BF4 sniper rifle. Its bad enough they made them so damn easy in BF4 by making them superb close quarters weapons and outright give them attachments to make them artificially easy ("straight pull"). But now they release another map which caters purely for snipers? How many breaks can we give the noobs? I know the average idiot gamer wants to be a hallway "sniper" for some reason and they do what sells, but isn't enough enough? The map ends up with a bunch of snipers covering the upper portion of the map with spawn beacons. And the lovely part is they can conveniently shoot between most of the containers. While hiding between trucks. And they don't seem to have a problem shooting through smoke grenades (FLIR?). If you spawn on the other end you're screwed. So it ends up being a sniper VS mortar game.

They should have made that island with the temple or whatever it is the TDM/DOM version. Nice scenery and it would have been better than this.

I did NOT tell you to avoid 64 player servers. I told you to avoid 64 player servers that were running 60hz refresh rate for the time being. Most of them aren't performing well.

Also, look again at the recent patch notes. I've linked them twice now. There are not as many nerfs/buffs as you think. The MBT LAW was the only hand held AT missile that got a buff this go around, and it was a Time To Live buff (how quickly it arms). I could be wrong, but I suspect that you haven't played in a while because many of these changes were made a long time ago. The rest of us have adapted. I still see people go on outrageous vehicle kill streaks all the time.

I'm not sure what is happening to your AP. AP lasts 2.5 seconds per the Fall patch several months ago, and reloads quicker. As long as that missile hits within that 2.5 seconds, the AP gets it. The ONLY missiles I have the occasional problems with are the ones that attack from above (Javelin w/ lock, MBT LAW, AT missiles from jets/choppers) but I have had that issue for a while. I believe you are just used to the older setting where it was longer and are simply popping APS too soon.

No arguments here. Noshahr canals was not my favorite TDM map in BF3 either, but there was outrageous demand for it and it was very simple for them to turn the US base into a recreation. There is way too much sniper bullshit that happens on that map, especially with the crane. The center section with the boxes does provide some relief and there is a way to sneak past them and go under the bridge if you are along the riverside.

If its any consolation, the best TDM servers I saw in BF3 using that map would use 3rd party plugins to keep out snipers. The map has been out for 1 day, I'm betting server admins will start locking down that bullshit soon.

I agree, as it currently is, it is prime infantry territory on the conquest map. It would need some additional cover put in the center courtyard section for the purposes of TDM/DOM.

Maybe the lag is really terrible on 60hz servers. Oddly I have not noticed a thing with hits not registering, unless we can put active protection being useless in that category of "lag/hit registration problems". Which is why I think some lag problem seems unlikely.I've played a number now and all seemed rather poor, but all were 64 player servers which seems to be the only size I can find populated. But I did manage some high KD/Rs and was on a winning team frequently... the Dragon Valley cap zones are bit small though. You almost have to get into an area where you know C4/mines will be.

I would like to see that. They made two versions of the last map, one of which is another sniper VS mortar map. The other version is much better. If they could do the same for DV that would be great.

So I fire up Dragon Valley all excited and then... I remember. I didn't play much Dragon Valley in BF2. LOL

The map is too big. I had forgotten that the pace in BF2 has been slowed in BF3 and subsequently BF4.

Well... it looks nice, anyway.

i also didn't play that map much in BF2. i haven't played the BF4 version but i'll give it a whirl this weekend. eh free stuff is free stuff :D

Dragon Valley is pretty dead. found a single server tonight, out of mexico, playing only dom and tdm. hopefully it picks up during the weekend and i can find some US servers running conquest.

I played the small version of the Dragon Map, the cargo container area, and I liked it.

What I didn't like is that I was getting sniped by a shotgun, the Mare something, all the time last night.
Getting one shotted from 20-30 yards away with it. is it really that strong and accurate?

tanks slide on even the slightest of inclines, it's been so since release. they also jiggle around, has nothing to do with lag. it's incredibly fucking annoying. the issues when the server tickrate was first unlocked are still present, but most servers have lowered their tickrates to 40 or 50 Hz as a bandaid. i don't know what the deal is but i played metro for about an hour yesterday and i faced two issues, 1. getting killed by someone before they round the corner and 2. instantly dying as if the server was running at 10 Hz like they used to (where you get hit with every bullet in one tick.) i had no issues like this at all prior to the latest patch, even on 30 Hz servers. and no, it's not my connection. rock solid 20 ping and zero packet loss.

I keep hearing about this "sliding" and haven't experienced it in over a year.

I dunno what to say guys. The only time I slide is when the tank is driving or parked along the side of a hill, not what I would consider slight inclines. I remember the early days when you would sit perfectly flat and it would slide and skip around.

Its been obvious for a long time dice dont know what makes the game series fun.
they cant play their own games and their testers dont know what they are doing.

I was also looking forward to the TDM portion of Dragon Valley but was totally disappointed that you can't parachute spawn off beacons. That's what made Noshaar so much fun! I enjoyed both sitting on the crane and sniping as well as picking off snipers on the crane. It was also fun to practice target shooting on parachuting enemies. The map feels much more like Shipment from COD4 than Noshaar from BF3. I digress....

The map was free and I have been entertained.

Dragon Valley is way to fucking big, dead map within a month.

Should of brought back the MULTITUDE of amazing maps from BF3
Any map from the CQ or Aftermath DLC was amazing especially Donya Fortress and Scrapmetal.

Would of loved to see a Large Conq remade of Seine Crossing or Kharg Island.

Ughhh should of just did a wake island 2015 remake if you wanted something legacy haha

There was a huge survey earlier this year on what map the community wanted remade. The survey included every map from every battlefield game, expansion pack and dlc. Dragon valley won. Not my first pick either, but I am glad they at least listened and we are getting free shit. :D

Some more high lights of this patch:

- Vehicles get stuck. Because fuck you, we didn't fix the hit boxes.

- You randomly explode. Because fuck you.

- Enemies can spawn in your base, take a vehicle, and sit there and blow you away as you try and take off. Because fuck you.

Only if you're a wuss and let it happen. Theres a counter for every baserape scenario.

Conquest Large. There are no vehicles in DOM, BTW.

i havent played that map yet, but each team base is so far out of the playing zone its impossible to spawn there. Now you can heli there, get dropped off and steal their shit, if the AA gun dont mow you down. But once again i have the map but have not played it yet.

Yes, i used to love it on domination when people spawn camped us. I would throw down an tugs, slap a silencer on my AK5C and hunt them all down. Then sit by their spawn beacon and pick them off every time.

In DPI's world of gaming you're a wuss if:

You spawn in your team base and are on the helipad. Before your helicopter can even take off you're blown up because someone in a transport heli is parked on the helipad right next to you and kills you instantly with the mini gun. You're dead in under 2 seconds. DPI, I bet you are hardcore.

No, you're actually just full of crap. I wouldn't be surprised if you are one of the people exploiting these bugs. ;)

That is entirely different as in DOM/TDM there is no team base. The entire area of the map is on limits for each team. By design, in Conquest, there are certain areas the enemy team is not allowed in. The problem is when the enemy can:

1) Spawn in your base.
2) Manage to get in, take a vehicle, and just sit in it killing people as they spawn.

In the event number 2 happens, they should be killed as they are out of their map boundary. Except that doesn't seem to work in the new map or patch. You example would only be applicable if you could walk into the Chinese base as an American in Conquest and throw down a spawn beacon. And then have people spawn in there without having the "get back on the map within 10 seconds" prompt popping up.

That has been possible since the first days of BF4. Its not part of the patch. The air vehicles have always had larger out of bounds areas, and those OB areas included the Uncap bases as long as you remained in the aircraft. The second someone gets out of the aircraft they get 10 seconds to either get in an aircraft or get back in bounds that is defined for ground vehicles and foot soldiers. As long as you remain in the aircraft you don't get the out of bounds count down timer unless the vehicle goes past the aircraft specific out of bounds area. This was part of the game day 1 because of all the complaints about lack of air space for jet combat in BF3. What you are describing are some of the douchebag tactics that some CFA clan members (Casual Farmers Association) used that made them so notorious.

What you are doing wrong is playing on a poorly admin'd server. These are simple baserape tactics that good admins will kick/ban people for using. Also, avoid "official" servers since they are defined by DICE's rules that don't allow any administration. This idiotic concept was introduced with BF4 and I hope it never returns. Stick with Ranked, Unofficial servers instead.

I honestly wonder how many hours you have put into this game and still not seen this bullshit before. It's been going on for 2+ years.

-edit- forgot to mention, this ability was another reason why DICE made the Uncap AA gun unusable to players. Either people would camp it or not use it at all, either way making it largely ineffective to prevent base rape. If you spot the enemy aircraft near your base, the base AA will tear them to shreds in 1-2 seconds. You don't even have to be in the uncap, you could spot the aircraft from the other side of the map. The second the enemy aircraft gets within a few hundred meters away they get lit up.

To summarize, switch to a better admin'd server or start using Q key. Stop blaming this on a patch that had nothing to do with it.

That would make sense if they flew the vehicle there, but it was the Chinese helicopter exactly where it spawns normally. It was otherwise untouched; he just got into the gunners position. Now maybe there was some rare occurrence of him bailing out right over it, but given the location of the heli spawns on Dragon Valley I find that very unlikely. It is below and behind obstructions. I really doubt they bailed directly into it within 10 seconds.

I also played some Gulf of Oman recently. Without a doubt infantry goes down far quicker with vehicles. It was like night and day, regardless of the server's tick rate on DV. The gunner's position is actually useful. I assume that map has some problems with lag and other bugs.

There are 2 things that could have happened, neither have anything to do with the patch or the map.
1. It played out exactly as you said. They flew their chopper there at low altitude and landed close enough to the enemy chopper that a passenger jumped out boarded the enemy chopper before their counter ran out and before anyone on the enemy team took possession. My clan recently had to ban a few dipshits doing this on Zavod311 at 2am the other day on our vanilla server. They flew the little bird behind everything, then the passenger got out ran to the enemy transport chopper and would place M2 mines then run back and get away scott free because the enemy team did not hit Q to spot their chopper and let the base AA shred them before they landed. Yes, aircraft can land in enemy uncap and not be considered OB since BF4 launch. Given the nature of the Dragon Valley map and how large it is with plenty of hillsides on the east side of map to use as cover, this doesn't surprise me that they got there without being spotted and shot down by the enemy's base AA. I do it quite frequently myself, but in the stealth jet.

2. The other possibility is a teleport hack. They teleported into their base, boarded an aircraft before their timer ran out.

At least we know how it's done and don't have to try to figure everything out on our own. That would take forever and some major dedication.

Wonder if they'll make the camo an easy 30-second unlock like the bow.

Well, there's still some problem solving you have to do individually. First, you have to figure out what lights every switch turns on prior to being able to turn the right ones on. After that, you have to know Morse Code and be able to translate from Norwegian to English so that you can figure out what your personal activation code is to get the camo at the end. Granted, that's a lot less than starting with nothing but there's still some work that has to be done. I wonder if anyone will figure out where that personal number is tied to our BF profiles and make it possible to skip the entire damn thing, lol.

Thank god you didn't play BF2, because you would've lost your mind since it was actually in-bounds and allowed for most maps in BF2. You're crying about a dumbed down version of the game that has more spawn protection than needed tbh and for that matter I've only ever seen jets spawn rape...usually the helis are dead in seconds.

If only there was a way to destroy helicopters. Maybe like a class that has rpg's and heat seeking missiles, that would be awesome. Maybe even if they added some kind of specific vehicle to deal with air threats.. Or maybe even simply 3d spot it and let the ai AA gun take it out in 3 seconds. Crazy ideas I know, but they just might work.

If a transport chopper is in your uncap, and is "raping" you and you dont know how to stop it, then its time to put down this game and perhaps try super mario.
