Intel Skylake K series CPUs are on every hardcore overclocker’s wish list, due to the fact that they are the only ones with an unlocked multiplier that allows users to overclock the CPU frequency effortlessly. However, there seems to be a shortage of these ultra high performing processors lately. Thankfully ASRock has prepared a nice Christmas present for the overclocking community named SKY OC, an alternative for users to overclock any Intel Skylake i7/i5/i3 or even Pentium non K CPUs on their ASRock Z170 motherboard.

Engineers at ASRock picked up from where they left off last time, and decided that besides DDR4 memory modules, there might be a way to overclock Intel non-K CPUs without tinkering the multiplier. So here you have the game changing SKY OC which is obtainable simply by a BIOS upgrade from ASRock’s official website. It’s not the same as overclocking an Intel K series CPU, because it’s mainly changing the BCLK, but it will be an interesting alternative while people are still waiting for their K series CPUs to come down the chimney. Lab tests show that the once not overclockable Intel Core i5-6400 CPU can now be overclocked up to a 60% frequency boost with SKY OC on ASRock’s Z170 Pro4!

It's really good to see overclocking return to lower categories. This is the best way to get the most for your money. Hope intel doesn't step up against it, as this makes the 6600K the worst buy ever.

As if they won't.
Kabylake gonna be rolling out extra fast.

I don't get the "$240 chip,worst buy ever" thing..

Unless you enjoy spending extra money for nothing, there is no point in choosing that over the 6400 with this development.

oh clock adjusting the reference clock like the bazillions prior generations of CPU's
yeah totally new stuff asrock is coming up with.

The only reason we dont have BCLK OC on recent generations of CPU's is because Intel is monopolistic on the chipset market and designs chipset where every componet was based of the same clock making it hard to increase BCLK without overclocking other stuff that could not handle it.

This is how we overclocked the
486
Pentium
Pentium MMX
Pentium 2 /Celeron
Pentium 3
Pentium 4
The mobility CPU's which name i cant remember
Core 2 Duo

etc etc

And who cares about past generations? Current non-K cpus couldn't be overclocked before, unless intel made an exception like the 3820 or G3258, so I don't see the reason for your outburst.

the pro and fatality/gamer lines it is advertised on. Not sure about the other's. Considering the Gaming4 myself and an i3. Don't need them, but will be fun to tinker with.

[H] needs to do more Asrock reviews. Hasn't been once since Z68 i believe.

There's a $100 price difference between i5 non K and K here in Canada, would love to see someone on the forum post his/her results with these boards

in for a Asrock Gamer4 board, i3 6100 and some Gskill trident memory. Will see if it's all that.

Does this work on all the asrock z170 boards or just the pro.

I'd love to use the gaming board, but i want to be sure before i order this oc feature works on both,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...7635&cm_re=asrock_z170-_-13-157-635-_-Product

Does that board work with this feature? It's time to order me a board cpu and ddr for my xmas present to myself

The list of all the boards it's available on is just 2 clicks away, and you can't find it? Here I make it 1 click away for you.

Hope a similar feature comes to Gigabyte boards so I can get this i5 6500 ramped up :D
