I've had it with Comcast

I have finally lost my patience with these people. I had a promotion that ended in September, no worries. I called and asked if they had any comparable plans, they told me that I could get one that had the basic channels.

So just got my bill and it had gone up over 40$, I called and was told that I was put on a plan that was more expensive, with the HD fees, technology fees and taxes that my plan would be over 140$ a month, way more than the 99$ I was wanting to pay.

so I need to know what is a good hd antenna to purchase, I want to keep the internet I can pay the 85$ a month but don't want the cable any more.

I have a best buy, fred meyer or wal mart close to me. I understand that I can not use the antenna with my ceton, is there another way to record just the local channels? my daughters mainly watch youtube or Netflix, that is why I want to keep the internet.

one last thing, is there a modem that I can use with Comcast that I purchase? a decent one would be great!

best buy here in town carryies some antenna direct antennas as well you could try best buy as well but here the pickins where slim to none soo i went online !

I live in town and i use a long range antenna and i get a crap ton of channels been using the antenna for years now an living in apartment and all i can say is WOW !!
using this antenna inside mounted above the window facing out side i pick up ALOT of Channels sometimes at night i can pick up in a different state its pbs but who cares FREE is FREE & you cant beat free even with a stick LOL and i live in the center of my state SOO YEAH if this things is that powerfull can you imagine if it was out side or in the attic and i live on the ground floor in a apartment I was really AMAZED at this antenna id recomend it to any one if you want to CUT your cable or satalight bill !!

When you buy a antenna make shure you buy one that can do UHF and VHF cuss some stations broadcast in one or the other or BOTH !'

And make sure you get one with the mounting hardware
at the time was thinking of buying this antenna but got the other one from antennas direct insted this one has the old style router with a remote so you can move it to the right spot to get the signel you need to watch i have read great reviews on both antennas soo hers the other one i would buy if you dont like the antennas direct one but this one is a bit plasticky

use antenna web to aim your antenna in the right spot to get the most of your channels use a compass app on your phone and use the headings provided on antenna website to get the best tv single there are some FREE compass apps you can use !
and use the site after you put your zip code in to see what channels are available in your area and how far thay are like do you need a long range or low or mid range i went LONG range antenna just in case and what kind of antenna you need UHF or VHF !

2 ANTENNA'S One TV - Sometimes you can use more then one antenna at the same time like put one at one side of the house and one at the other end just have to be carefull of ghosting witch is 2 of the same channels over lapping each other makes a ghost effect but if your lucky and the same single at one area is weaker then the other it will work soo i used a amp on one antenna and none on the other and if your lucky youll get more channels and youll be getting them from both sides of the house just need signel amps and a few coax splinters and coax cable and more then 1 antenna .but remember the higher the antenna is in the air the better chance you have at getting a better signal ! and theres NO Steel / Brick Walls or Tree's blocking the antenna's signal it should work

I went to best buy and found an rca 30$ antenna, it works ok, however it is basically a pair of powered rabbit ears that I have to move to pick up certain channels. So I will be returning those and finding something a little different. I have been reading about the Mohu antennas so I think I will give them a shot.

I do have netflix and quite a few movies so that is covered. I have to keep Comcast for the internet so that will run me about 85 a month using their modem and wifi box.

One more thing, since I can no longer use my ceton 4 tuner, is the hdhomerun a decent alternative to recording OTA tv to my HTPC? are their other options?

at this time I do not have the money to purchase the DVR that is linked, I do have a htpc that I have been using and want to continue to use, as I have several hard drives that are available for recording.

I can vouch for the Amazon basics. I have the amplified version. Pair this with a ota hdhomerun tunner.

so I took back the RCA and picked up the Mohu. It is defiantly better than the other, I was able to get the channels that I watch most.

I received a call from Comcast today from the "loyalty" department. basically if I wanted to keep my cable they would put me on the basic channels but I would still be charged the HD fee if I wanted the channels. While I do watch the local College team, I really don't watch much in the way of HD channels.

As for recording, I found out that I mainly watch CBS channels, which I found the CBS all access, so that may be the way to go.

Best place to put an antenna is on the roof.

This thing was $65 back in 2010 and I get awesome reception with it.



Antenna + Amazon Prime + Sling TV on a Fire TV box and I am in about $25 a month for TV Viewing.

With Comcast you dont get what you pay for you get Junky parts at HIGH cost !!

Imo I think thay want to make ppl think that there getting something good for the cash that thay spend at comcast with deals but theres hidden fees added like taxes and equipment cost up keep and service costs IN ALL IN ALL PPL are not GETTING a GOOD DEAL ! the phone company does the same thing as well !! thats called SMOKE & MIRRORS

and any way theres thos advertisments i have found out that comcast adds advertisments them selfs to your programing i found this out befor my unkal got rid of comcast he also had satalight runing at the same time we had it on the same channal and comcasts channal had more adds then the satalight company did soo yeah go figger it depened on what channal we had them both on satalight on one had a few more where comcast did the same soo its the service provider that adds the advertisments BUT it did seem that comcast had more of them i have also found this out useing a TV antenna these cable and statalight companyies have more adds then standerd antenna TV service !! now there shorting the adds just soo thay can get more of them in to a hour of a show or program soo say we use to have 2 or 3 now we have 4 to 6 more adds there run time is just shorter !
its called getting more bang for your buck !

but any way i still dont under stand why we cant just pay for what we want to watch like pick a channal or 2 or just have one package like just have a 1 sports package and thats it and call it a day after all ppl can only watch one channal at a time any way and half the channals we pay for are JUNK any way !! i dont need 150 channals when all i can watch is 1 and the rest are BS channals with crap on them !!

FWIW, I have a HDHR Connect and a Winegard FL-55YR and the pair work great with MythTV to record OTA. I can't easily install an outdoor antenna, but I'm in an area with strong OTA signals. The Winegard is lying flat and haphazardly aimed on a piece of furniture on the 3rd floor (~35 feet off the ground), and the MythTV server is in the basement. For me, this setup is superior to a long RG59 run from an antenna to a PCI or USB based tuner, since the cable will be subject to interference.

That'll cover the vast majority of non-rural areas just fine. As far as the network tuner look into a HDHomeRun Connect. It'll interface with mythtv, kodi and Windows Media Center. When wiring your Antenna use only RG6, use a ground block that is bonded to your house ground (or ground the splitter to the house ground) and ground the Antenna mast also.

Use antennaweb to search for local channels in your area.

I have built one of these antennas before i got a retail antenna and yes a home made 1 does work a friend needed antenna soo i gave it to him he was amazed on how it works and was impressed Now i make them for Friends an family for fun there real easy and cheap.

I did it, I am finally free of Comcast crappy cable! I took in my cablecard and boxes yesterday and actually had to wait in line. there were about 5 people ahead of me who were doing the same. apparently in our local area they raised the cable rate by 23 dollars so people were not happy.

One thing that kinda pissed me off though when I got home my internet speeds were about 30mbs, but I am paying for the 75mb speed, so I called and was told "oh your speed was dropped to the lower package" after I went back to the comcast office I spoke with the person who had helped me before and he said "I misunderstood you"


so now speed is back to normal, I did find a ton of plex channels that I can get and see the shows I watch,

still can't find the FX channel for my daughters but I am sure I will at some point.

I just use netflix, hulu, funimation, and amazine prime and see 0 reason for a TV but thats just me.

Happiest day of my life was when FiOS was setup, haven't had 1 problem since and consistently get higher down and up speeds than I pay for. Picture quality is awesome as well.

You will.never get FX from OTA. Best bet for this might be hulu sub
