I cannot stand this new UI. It has taken so much away...

Been trying to find ways to get the old UI back so i can actually see wtf i'm doing and select updates i want, etc. Registry tricks were disabled by msft... is there any way to do it still?

Nope. If you want the old school look of Windows Update, you're gonna have to stop using Windows 10 to get it.

If you take the UI for what it is, it's doing the exact same thing. The only difference is there is no built in way to disable specific updates. Microsoft released a separate tool for that since for most users receiving all of the updates is the best option.

This.

Despite having a tool to delay or stop *some* updates, it's mostly out of your control in consumer versions of Windows 10. That is the point of Windows As A Service: to make it a standard, evolving platform that's always up to date. If you have the Professional version, you can control when the updates are installed.

If you don't stay updated with security and non-security updates, new security updates will not be available after (I think) 10 months. MS is really forcing consumers to get whatever new features it wants to push on your system, so lol grab your ankles.

They still haven't built that in yet? That's one of the last things really holding me back. Like the OP mentioned, the WU process is incredibly lackluster, more so than the older versions. It's beyond silly you have to remember to search out a third-party tool to do something completely necessary like preventing an unnecessary driver update that you don't want.

At least they have come a long way since RTM. It's starting to look and feel more like Windows should. The mediocre Control Settings is really the last thing that leaves much to be desired after they work in a WU blocking tool. Seems waiting 6 months after release to update was just about right for me, I just really wished they'd address the Control Panel and build in that stupid tool by default.

this mornings update installed a shit ton of windows bloat that i had to use ccleaner to uninstall like the get office app and phone and phone companion and money and sway and weather and groove music.... how the hell do i stop those retarded apps from ever installing again?
