This video showcasing the Steam Controller's automated assembly process is kinda mesmerizing. How many of you have, or are planning on getting, a Steam Controller?

LOL did anyone catch what was written on the side of some of the robotic arms?

I may buy one of these controllers...

/wondering what the start up costs of the production facility are, and how many controllers must be sold to amortize the costs.

the reviews I have heard from people that make a living playing games that are use to xbox and ps controllers is that they hate the steam controllers. So I have no desire to get one. I'll stick to what I am use to.

I got mine 2 weeks ago and after a few days of getting used to it, I have to say I really love it. I play Elite Dangerous and GTA V with it and it really does well. It really comes down to 2 things. Getting the muscle memory down, and spending some time adjusting the controls and sensitivities to your liking. i grab some player made configs and then adjust for my tastes. The thing is amazingly customizable. The only issue now is needing big screen mode and without it not being able to access configs with non-steam games, but I read they are fixing this soon to allow non-steam games to access the configs through big picture mode.

Either way, good buy so far.

That's you're problem right there. People aren't accustomed to change and will subconsciously not even give it an objective unbiased look.

I'm tempted to grab one myself because I'm into the concept.

I remember when people hated the original Xbox controller (the awesome huge/bulky one) because it was too big and uncomfortable and then they released the girly hand sized S controller and that became the norm....thanks to Nintendo and Sony people got used to tiny uncomfortable controllers.

Most of those reviews are by media types that didn't take the time to properly adjust their playing to a new controller. Their reviews show this if you read closely. Most of them spent a day or two being annoyed and giving up.

There are some reviews that make points pro and con, and are far more thorough. Those reviews point out that it is a huge leap to make and takes time if you have been using the same 2 controllers for 15-20 years. My biggest complaint initially was that it can be hard to find center on the track pads, but again once muscle memory kicks in and it becomes second nature.

Would I play Battlefield or Civ V with this thing? No damn way. KYBD+Mouse for that.

I've had one since it was released. I think its a decent joystick - although I went back to my Xbox controller on my computer.

That said, I also bought a Steam Link. I use the Steam Controller with this. I played a few games that heavily use the mouse - the Controller works well with these.

I know several updates have been released for the Controller since I last used it. I'll need to try it out again. One gripe I had was playing Rocket League. The Xbox controller provided more force feedback - the Steam Controller didn't have it.

I saw this last night. It's great they decided to have them assembled here in the USA.

I have one and really enjoy it except for the rough seams on the sides...they dig into my hangs just a tiny bit more then I like. I'm hoping with use, they'll wear down a bit though.

That was pretty cool, and made me want one!! I thought about it before, but it looked a little expensive....now I might re-consider.

I have one and the only game I have used with it is GTA 5. I was used the xbox controller so its taking a little bit to get used to but I really like it. It is very customizable and the more I use it the more I like it.

Whoa, didn't know that it's made in Buffalo Grove, which is under an hour from Chicago.

Pffff, those controllers are for babies.
Now here's a controller for a REAL man, the Sega Saturn 3D controller!

Or better yet, for you old timers out there, how about the Atair 5200?

Remember its trackball controller?

Awesome video though, and very cool tech involved.

Don't forget this beast!

I do understand what you both are saying. In this case it wasn't some actual written review that I am talking about Rooster Teeth / Achievement Hunters have talked about them as a few people got a steam box or the streaming box (too lazy to look up what that is called). And yes part of it is people not liking change, but this is a company that makes a living off of playing games. They are playing games all day long every day. They have all the current VR equipment to play with, they have all consoles that are out. They adapt to new devices and "toys". They weren't so much as doing a review as saying I got the steam box and tried playing games with it for awhile and the button layout just didn't seem natural based on what years of experience has my mind programmed to. One of the guys did try to give it a few days and then decided he liked the feel and layout of the xbox controller more. Which it is every person's choice of what they prefer. If a smaller controller feels better than a smaller is better for you, if you like larger then larger is better. I actually like the xbox one controller over the 360 as while they are very close to being the same the xbox one is a little larger and fits my hands better. But that is my personal preference. If somebody tries the steam controller for a 10 - 15 hours and they still don't like the feel of the controller there is no reason they should have to give it 100+ hours to force themselves to like it and use it. Some people will like it, other will not. In the end it is all personal choice.

And I am looking at it personally from the same view. I have no desire to get a steam box as that would be a complete waste of money for me. So that leaves do I want to get a steam controller, well I already have a keyboard & mouse, xbox one and xbox 360 controller. I am already use to the controllers that I have. There is no reason to learn a new layout for the sake of learning one if it doesn't give me any advantage. Which everything that I play with the controller I do just fine in and don't have any issues with the controller.

Seems rather inefficient to have the thing drop each coloured action button one by one in instead of all 4 at the same time.

It's rather impressive and huge for just a controller assembly place, and really nice too. :)

Anyone else notice the Aperture logo all over some of the equipment? lol nice

Yeah, post #2. :p

Anyway, I might pick one of these up for $20 or something on a sale but not worth $50 to me. I've never had a good experience with trackpad-based controls like this.

Meh. I already have a PS4 and 360 controller, and M/K works for most games just fine.

Was anyone else horrified by this, all i could think was SKYNET!

Not really, I think GlaDOS would have fit nicely.

She needs to run mor experiments, after all.

Back on topic, if I didn't already have a plethora of Controllers (F310, XBone), I would have given this a try. Sadly, it is not yet available here.

It kinda blows my mind thinking if someone had to start something like that from scratch and have it all actually work to produce a functioning product rather than being able to use existing equipment.

I preordered a Steam controller way back when it was first possible, so I have had one for a while. I still cannot get used to it fully in games. It has kind of a trackball simulation thing on the right pad that is very useful for other things though, it has a nice feeling to it and work well. Consequently I have used the steam controller more in apps outside Steam and on the desktop than I have in any Steam environment or games.
Also the wireless USB dongle broke in two and stopped working for nearly no impact at all when it fell to the floor while sitting in the little USB-cable adapter it came with. I got a new one inside a week though. That was impressive customer service.
To be fair, I haven't had time to game that much since I got it due to other more pressing concerns in my life at the moment. So it may still turn out to be a great game controller, but I suspect that will happen when games gets released that has had the controller in mind while being developed.

I wonder what that burst of vapor was at the end of the video? I wonder if it's water vapor to control humidity or some type of particulate to grab dust particles.
