Here's the link to Dell's Days of Deals sale with the promo:

Dell Days of Deals - LG 50UF8300

Don't forget to click the [H]ardOCP Commissioned Buying Link for Dell first!

HardOCP Buying Links

I just purchased another one of these because it's such an excellent deal! I haven't seen this posted on here, so I figured I'd share. Dell has offered this deal a few times prior to this, so it may come up again if you miss it. This is comparable to Samsung's SUHD line.

I'm using this as a monitor and can say:
  • It's an IPS screen
  • It does 4K (3840x2160 native) resolution @ 60Hz YCbCr444 (or full RGB)
  • Response time feels great when input is set to Gaming mode
  • Latest firmware update adds HDR
  • Works with Intel WiDi
  • Colors on the Prime (Quantum Dot?) Display are amazing!
  • Blacks are very rich, but not flawless
  • Don't believe backlight has full array local dimming, just edge-lit dimming

It's awesome as a TV, but I figured some of you might be interested in using this as a monitor also.

How do you use the egift card for the order?

edit: NVM, I see they send you one within two weeks for future use.

damnit I can't believe I missed this. I wonder if deal will honor it if I ask...

I snagged the 58" version of this deal back in October, $1050+tax for the 58"+ $200 Giftcode. Bad-ass and Netflix 4K looks pretty decent.

I spoke to a local high-end AV shop that I know who asked their distributor about the deal, given that the 58" is a $2k MSRP. They were told that some company placed a big order for both the 50" and 58" varieties of the 8300 series but failed to accept the order, so LG unloaded them Cheap, and Dell picked them up. I'm sure that given the new merger talk with EMC, the word came down to blow everything out and recoup the cost as cashflow.

Congrats! Such a great TV for the price!! I bought one about a month ago and I think they had the same deal in October. I'm guessing they'll keep running the same promo until they're all gone.

Some tips to make your life easier:

Definitely update the firmware to 04.20.08 ASAP since it adds HDR. You have to download the ~700mb file from LG's site and put it in a specific folder on a flash drive, which is detailed in the Upgrade Guide pdf.

If you'll be using this as a monitor, make sure to go into settings and turn on "HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Color" and set Aspect Ratio to Just Scan (1:1). Also, when you click the input button, go into "All Inputs" and set your input to Game Console (the controller icon). The rest of the settings will take a little bit to get used to, but I think the colors and everything are pretty nice out of the box.

If you're interested, I found this link for settings: avforums LG 65UF850 Review and Settings

This avforums review is for the UK version of the UF8500 series, I believe, but should use the same Prime panel with WebOS 2.0. I've read the reviews for the other TVs in the Prime line and a common complaint is a slight oversaturation of reds and undersaturation of blues out of the box, so these settings should correct that.

That's really interesting! I just figured LG positioned this TV incorrectly and they had issues selling it near the MSRP price point. For Dell's price, it's an unbeatable deal.

From what I could tell, the Prime panel is the same across the line, just with full-array backlighting and more processing options in the higher models. I think the lack of reviews might be scaring people? If I were to complain about anything, it might be that I see a light diamond-shaped backlight pattern at night with a black screen.

I'm really happy with the purchase, especially since reading OLED has higher input lag, potentially the same problems as early plasmas (with burn-in and limited life) and is at least a few years away from being affordable.

Do you have any favorite demo videos that really show off this TV's capabilities? The Amazon Originals on Prime look good and a few are supposed to have HDR enabled. I've found a few 4k demo files with HDR by doing a quick search, but I'm not overwhelmed by their quality. My favorite so far is "Into the Cave of Wonders [4k HDR short documentary]" on YouTube.
