The [H]ardForum Perpetual Freebies Thread

Hey everyone.
I'm looking to build up a cheap pc for a family friend.

Currently I have the following:
- Intel E6320
- Biostar P4M890-M7 SE
- 2x 1GB DDR2
- 80GB WD HDD
- Monitor
- Case
- Windows XP

I'm hoping to find the following:
- Power Supply
- Discrete Graphics card
- 2x 2GB DDR2
- Maybe another OS

Thanks in advance if anyone is able to help.

I have two more E7400 CPUs GONE

I'm looking for some items for my dos machine (that I used to have but of course tossed years ago):

- 5.25" floppy disk drive
- Serial mouse
- AT keyboard
- Voodoo 1 PCI card

Wow, a serial mouse. Can't remember the last time I saw one of those.

I thought that I might be able to help out with the IDE cable and keyboard, but I don't think my old parts in the basement are that old. AT was the larger round connector, right? And I think all of my IDE cables are the newer type with more wires.

Shew man, if I were you I'd build something a bit newer than that...would a system that took a 5.25" floppy/AT keyboard/serial mouse even have a PCI slot for a Voodoo card?

Yep, AT is that gigantic round connector. I currently am using an AT to PS/2 adapter but if I could get my hands on an old IBM AT mechanical keyboard I'd be thrilled. The thrift stores haven't been kind enough to have one for sale yet.

The PC is a Pentium-MMX 166MHz rig with 64MB of ram ($5 thrift store find). The Baby-AT mobo has 3 PCI slots and 4 ISA slots, so it would be plenty capable of running my S3 trio and a Voodoo 1 to take advantage of some of the 3dfx dos games like Blood, Carmageddon, or Descent. I think a 5.25" drive would be an excellent compliment to the package, I have some old games on 5.25" disks but I have no idea if they work or not (Darklands!)

Awesome. I wish you the best of luck. I miss the Voodoo days. Gaming was truly something special back then. Gotta love those old DOS classics and early Pentium setups. I went from a 486 DX2/66 that could barely run Quake to a P2-300 with dual Diamond Voodoo 2 12MB cards and played all of those games as well as Monster Truck Madness, Motocross Madness and various others. Too cool.

I happen to have a rounded IDE (bottom one in the pic) and 2 rounded floppy cables to go with. Your s for the cost of shipping.

Oh wow, all this talk about ole nostalgic systems reminds me of the good old Doom days!

And about the time Quake 2 came out I bought a Diamond Monster 3DFX card to play that puppy in a higher res. :p

I have a BFG Tech 8800GT and a BFG Tech 550W PSU, They both last worked when used, don't know now. The motherboard of the computer they were in failed.

I think I have a Pentium-MMX 233mhz, currently sitting in one of those AT transition boards. The board seems dead. Haven't fired it up in awhile. The design was cool because it had both Simm and Dimm slots and a AGP slot. I also have a Creative CT4500 ISA Sound card. I know how those older games loved their Soundblaster support. The games should still be available online, funny enough you can still buy disks: http://floppydisk.com/1010.htm
Not exactly cheap, but always an option.

I do have a bunch of old 5.25" floppy disks, not sure which type, but probably the low density type. Not even sure what is on them or if they are any good. Not even sure why I have them honestly.

Edit: Nope it was a K6-2 400, now I wonder where the Pentium went.

Need any dead SATA 3.5" HD for a child's project
Literally any dead 3.5" SATA HD will do, broken pins, dead media whatevs.

Will gladly pay shipping for the USPS Small box + tip ya 6-7 bucks :).

I'll pay the extra shipping if you have 2-3 and tip ya 10 for the effort.

Ready to pay asap and hoping for a monday shipout if possible.

I have 12 @ 1 gig DDR3 ECC memory if anyone is in need of them for a server project.

Just shoot me a PM and we will work out the details.

Should fit in a small priority package without issues so it would only be about 6 bucks for shipping.

And, @Usyed1, I'll take a look in my pile man. I think I have a drive or two for ya.........And, due to your amazing kindness in the past I wouldn't even charge ya the shipping my friend. :D

How many does he want?

Hmm, not sure to be honest.

I guess shoot him a PM and see how many he needs.

I'm paying the shipping for the package so how ever many he wants/needs I'll get who ever squared up on the shipping. ;)

You may have caught me at an unusual time.

Working on a mini bartop arcade for someone in the neighborhood, my last decent capacity drive just decided to throw tons of errors. I have this and an old 400 that is on the verge of death that you can have.

On my end of the token, I'm looking for at least one 200-300gb and up drive on the cheap to replace this dead drive. Not looking for a freebie as this cab is not going to be a gift but I'm still on a bit of a budget here. Figured i would ask here before before i post a request thread.

I will look. I have either a 160 or 250, not sure which.

Okay, I just need an address to figure out shipping charge. Shipping from 55412 just in case you are wondering where I'm shipping from.

SATA work? If so I have a 250GB Sata 3.5 drive. I think it's 7200 rpm too. A few bucks and shipping it's yours.

Anyone have an old black Macbook battery laying around? (White will work too), just need it to keep the laptop from turning off if the cord comes unplugged.

The black one uses battery model A1185, right? If it happens to be A1331, I have an A1331 for a 2009 white polycarbonate Macbook that turned out to be a cheap Chinese model that only holds like 75% capacity.

Darn no that won't work, thanks though!

I need one or two PCI-Express 16 video cards with two DVI-I outputs. It will be used to drive 2 projectors in my church and one monitor. Should be able to drive 1920x1200 projectors to show pictures and HD movies. Less power would be desired and not noisy. Would like to power them it with Antec 430W Earthwatts (80% efficiency) PS. Please let me know if anyone has something. Video card with 3 outputs would be fine too but I need two DVI-I outs for projectors and DVI-D or HDMI for monitor. Thank you and God bless you.
