Lumia 640 down to $39.99 on Microsoft Store

This is tempting not so much for me, but for my mom -- she's got an awful prepaid phone right now and this would DEFINITELY be better.

Yes, I've had the same thought. At this price, it's a great phone to gift to a non-techie that might be in need of a phone upgrade. It's reportedly fairly easy to get an unlock code from ATT for these, so that it could be used for a variety of GSM-based MVNO's...

Decent music player if nothing else at that price.

Has bluetooth 4.0, meaning it could be used for a decent Gym or exercise device paired with a HR monitor like this, http://www.scosche.com/rhythm+ . Transmits data using that BT specification. Not sure if there are Windows Phone Apps to make it worth while though.

I bought one just to mess with, $40 is nothing for that much technology. Plus it gets Win10 when it's out! Worst case scenario I'll just play Ilomilo on it :p

Why do all the sales on Lumia phones have to be the ATT version? Meanwhile, the Tmobile versions get no reduction in price.

You can put in an unlock request online- takes about two days and you'll hey the unlock code from att emailed to you.

The 640 running win10 is actually a really great phone- halfway decent camera too.

The blocking of band 12 is hilarious. Obviously a stab at T-Mobile.

Haha hahahah a hahahahahahahhaha

No way.
It's in their black Friday ad. I doubt it will sell out. Or you mean you won't go out on Thursday
Does this mean that even if unlocked, a Tmobile version would be better suited to work on Tmobile than this ATT version?

The unlock won't give you support for t-mobile's lte bands.

I'm using a Lumia 640 on T-Mobile (via Ting)... but I don't really use cellular data much, if at all. When I have time to use data services on my phone, I'm typically around wifi anyway...

I purchased one anyway. I have Sprint so this will be a wifi only device. If I do switch to to T-Mobile, I am somewhat assured that T-Mobile 3G will be fast enough. I had a Lumia 521 and was getting 5Mb down on 3G.

I bought 2 phones for 64$ for backup purposes. I have to say this phone has been a very pleasant surprise. And it works on T-mo lte bands.

The LG Sunset smart phone (with 4G) used by Tracfone is wonderful. Tracfones have been excellent the past couple years as they moved away from reconditioned phones One year activation and 1200 minutes/data/texts together with phone costs between $125-150 on ebay. Unused minutes and data rollover. I'm shocked at what people pay for phones that aren't much different. I wouldn't give my mom a "phone" running Windows She'll go to make a important call one day and phone will be crashed after an update or something

Bought this phone for the hell of it. Played with it for many hours. The app gap is alarming but the phone and OS is great even for $150.

Got this one on ebay for about $100 with shipping included. Got the T-Mobile version specifically (which is why I paid so much for it - "much" being a relative term, since I think it's a steal at that price for what you get). Upgraded mom's 635 to 640, with the bigger screen and front facing camera being two big reasons for it.
Fantastic phone for the money - yes the apps are lacking, but it's for my mom, and the 2-3 apps she uses from the Store are there already. Wish MS would be doing better than the sub 2% share they have currently.
