Fallout 4 Console Commands Can Break Your Saves?

I hope player.setav carryweight isn't one of those. That's the only one I use cause I hate having to constantly look through my inventory and decide what to drop and pick up and leave behind.

They have to say this, because it would be really time consuming to test every situation combined with every set of console commands. Basically, use the commands, you take your chances.

you know you could always get the perk that removes the need for that.

Yes there are console commands that can break things, everyone knows this.

Its been like that for every Bethesda game.

That is why you always make a save before using any commands, and only save after you are sure you did something intended.

You can break the game in many ways by moving npc's or straight up killing them with the console.

Bethesda only says its not supported because of the risk involved with using them.

basically there is nothing new to see here move along...

TGM

Done.

Use player.modav as setav is a hard limit, whereas mod av will increase/decrease with perks, gear, special upgrades, etc

There's a mod that will permanently set your carry weight to far higher than the game allows naturally (I have mine set to 9999) mainly cause I'm a hoarder in games like this.

i used all the mat cheats, carry limit, no clipping, caps and those never hurt my saves.

Good chance the reason you're playing with console commands is because the game is already broken.

for me? nope. i got tired of spending a hour at everyplace i see for mats for mods. i don't feel like running out of ammo. i just here for the killing and story lines.

I lost a companion somewhere and finding them is the only console command I have used so far.

I've been using a few performance/graphics tweaks. Pretty sure this won't corrupt my saves right? It's not like im spawning things left and right or anything that modifies any files.

this is exactly how I made through Skyrim with every console command and mod used.. separated save files for everything..

I think it's unlikely that using command can screw up existing save file. Perhaps the concern is it mess something up and the user save the game in that state

no, no its actually possible Console command have no limits in those games and can really bug a game so bad that can corrupt a savefile.. it has happened to me in skyrim with physics modification to allow a better flying+Wings Mods..

Anyone actually using console commands knows that if you mess up your game while using those commands that you'll be fixing it yourself. The number of people that would go crying to the developer about using console commands and having issues must be pretty damned small.

So, to be competitive you not only have to play the game well, but master an unsupported back-door system that lets you modify the game as you go along.

Good Job Bethesda!

Console commands have worked without a single issue in the last 4-5 Bethesda games. Never had an issue with saves yet.

The console has always carried risk, it has since the beginning of save games and developer consoles. The whole point of console hardware is to prevent customers from doing whatever they want with their games, thus no developer consoles. That's nothing new either.

This is really not news.

Is it that important for people to hate things that we need to spend all of our time making mountains of mole hills? Catastrophization, anyone?

While it is possible to break your saves with the console commands, if you don't go nuts and try crazy stuff the chances are pretty low that things will break.

That said, in this case it is a simple issue of no dev console on console games simply because it's a console. 1) it has no keyboard on consoles, 2) they would have to add a controller secret code to activate it, 3) it might end up being a way to hack the console in question to bypass the console security so Sony and MS will never allow the dev console to exist in the release version of the game.

He probably just said that because he know the console peasants couldn't handle typing in console commands.

I haven't used the console commands in Fallout 4 yet, but have pretty much every other game. I always do a playthrough first. 2nd playthrough is cheat mode. Never had any issues with saves, although, not doing some super crazy things either.
