I'm looking for a good hardware firewall for 100-200 bucks.

I do not want wireless. Only thing it is protecting is one desktop.

Suggestions?

Have you looked at the Astaro Gateway? It will turn any old computer you have into a hardware firewall by installing their software image. I've heard great things about it and I believe it's free.

erl-3, usg, pfsense. These would be the ones I would look at, leaning more heavily towards PF due to the "extras" it can do over other devices.

Just bumping this back up as i am going to do a home pfsense box or OPF or what ever, and i came across these boxes

Got linked to those from some other forums on pfsense and these are just right from China / Asia, basically foxconn or similar builders who do mass OEM builds doing these smaller ones..

The one's with wireless look nice now that PFsense 2.? can do wireless better...

The problem with the "asia special" is driver/bios support. I have an "asia box" here, no bios upgrades, no drivers. Run it headless then need to be at console? Can't just plug in a monitor and have it work, need to boot it first. Opted to re-purpose as a win8.1 box and yes, finding drivers was "fun". I'm sure this could be fixed with a major OEM. Something to factor.

Ya, seems some people got pfsense on them fine, and other mentioned part of the cheap price is due to basically being SOL if it dies or has issues..unless the seller site has protection..

If you've got $100 to spend, why not get a Ubiquiti EdgeRouter or Mikrotik?

I guess i like the freedom of PFSense and what it lets me do and control, having used it many times in the past for work and knowing what it can do and handle, a certain level of familiarity and customization as needed.

I do runng router in promox on ehem low (not really, J1900 or N3050 consume less 5W) on A4-5000 mini itx with additional i340 nic.
runnign 4 VM with 8G ram (when needed can be install to 16G ram)..
AES is supported in cpu directly, needed for vpn :D...
