Assassin's Creed: Syndicate

Anyone seen the Season Pass for sale by itself, perchance? Ideally, for cheap? Those with Nvidia codes and whatnot, it would be nice to get the whole game including the expansion and new missions, but I've not seen the Season Pass available anywhere a la carte, and certainly not at a discount.

Note: I can only hope the continued GameWorks issues means developer stop using that rather pathogenic middleware. Its bad enough when games require specific driver tricks for one or more vendors, but its even worse to have something like GameWorks or PhysX proprietary junk. Its frustrating, though a bit funny, that even when those technologies are used on the "preferred" hardware, they end up causing such problems! All the more reason that we should demand hardware company agnostic tech and that it be open spec/source when possible.

Some 4k shots @ FXAA + Max settings, High Shadows (they look better than PCSS to me). The game looks and runs great:

can't tell from the screenshots, does it look better then Unity?...Unity looked amazing for the most part...the AC games all seem to have this grainy quality to them and it's not as sharp as it could be

The lighting isn't as good as Unity but that may be because Syndicate has dynamic weather/time as opposed to Unitys 'baked lighting'. Besides that it looks really good, especially at 4k. And runs fantastic. I imagine the nvidia drivers and the yet to release day one patch will improve the performance even more. But as it is a 980ti will get you a locked 30fps using FXAA @ 4k. So this isn't Unity where the first month had a performance problem.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha! F*ck PC Gaming. Going to get a console for this game so I can get decent frame rates. j/k

20.8fps @4K for a Titan X. That is $48 a frame. $1,000 / 20.8= $48.

WTF? That is the worst performance in a game I think I've ever seen. A Titan X getting 45 fps? @1080p?

Like for real? Really real? That chart is a misprint right?

Electronic Arts developers are game design gods compared to these guys.

Have to admit that it looks like a performance pancake on all cards. 1080p with no costly AA and those are the averages? I wonder what is the performance killing feature/s this time... Whatever it is, it´s very likely not worth it. ;)

Max settings enables 4x or 8x MSAA, which explains a lot of the performance hit. Also apparently PCSS shadows are killing it.
I don't know, haven't played the game yet.

With a little bit of tweaking it should run fine. It may be one of those situations where you can get 60+ FPS without any noticable quality difference.

4K gaming is still a pipe dream for most setups, that doesn't really shock me much.

is SLI well supported?

With my GTX980 Ti I was able to play unity at 4K maxedout without AA no problem at a rock solid 60FPS.

I tought that syndicate was not much more demanding that unity, isn't this true?
Is syndicate much more demanding than unity? Does it scale well on SLI?

Please answer.

Only due to developers like UBI Soft. My god it is criminal. Its like the DevOps tards are now coding for gaming companies...

I am playing with FXAA and no PCSS stuff and getting about 60+ fps at 1440p. However, with the chick I am getting stuttering even when the readout says 60-70 fps. Is that the 30 fps cloth you guys are talking about?

People you need to turn shadows to high (turn off the nvidia PCSS shadows) and AA to FXAA. And the performance improves significantly.

These people that try to run games at super ultra settings with TXAA+MSAAx8/nvidia gameworks and expect good performance in an open world game are crazy.

This is the best AC port the PC has had in ages.

Personally I think the PCSS shadows look like shit compared to high and high will get you about 33% more fps (depending on the resolution). What I don't get about the PCSS shadows is that you actually get fewer shadows but the FPS hit is massive. Nvidia needs to go back to the drawing board with PCSS imo.

Agreed on all points.

A single GTX 980Ti at 1920X1200 and maxing everything out is getting taxed in a major way. Over 4GB of VRAM can be used at that rate. naticus is on the right track here.

Ubisoft? Keep doing it like this.

The real question is why does Nvidia keep bundling UBICrap's games with their video cards? Part of the allure of Nvidia GameWorks is that you get some of the 300 Nvidia engineers / scientists to help your development team to make your game run as seamless as possible.

Either Nvidia's so called scientists are shams or they keep picking terrible development studios to work with. Maybe PC Gaming is just regressing back to The Videogame Crash of 1983.

of course it improves significantly...but it also looks worse...FXAA is a last resort AA method...

The different AA methods are something I notice the least. I almost always go with FXAA because it barely impacts performance. That's my greatest concern.

FXAA actually looks pretty good in the recent AC games, it was by far the best AA method in Unity and it is as well in Syndicate. At lower resolutions you can go TXAA/MSAA in Syndicate. FXAA is only really mandatory at 4k with single card setups. For instance TXAA+ 1440p + locked 60fps is doable on a 980ti (no PCSS shadows mind you).

I had to use FXAA for performance reasons in Unity (after all the patches were released) but given the choice I would always choose MSAA over FXAA...SMAA is a great compromise that also doesn't impact performance as much as MSAA...I hate the blur effect in FXAA...but those screenies you posted look similar to Unity so maybe FXAA does work well with the AnvilNext engine

Anyone else get stuttering with the woman in first mission of hers?
I was about 5 minutes into the game and my frame rate got locked to about 15fps, GPU usage dropped down to about 10%. It stayed there until I restarted the game. Just... weird.

Yup I did this for Unity as well and it ran great.. Can't speak for Syndicate but I expect it to be similar.. Which it sounds like.

These games are super demanding. And have the gfx to back it up. Unity to this day has the best gfx I have ever seen. The cutscenes look photo realistic.

This game is amazing. The best Assassins Creed in the series.

Yeah the gameplay/parkour/movement is really fluid and precise. It's also nice that this is one of the best looking open world games ever made. Going from Fallout 4 to Syndicate is an eye opener.
