Does a UHD/4K TV make a good monitor?

I'm looking for a good monitor with a lot of real estate for programming. How does a UHD TV using HDMI compare to midrange computer monitor?

TIA

No point unless your specifically looking to watch tv on it also

I'm looking for a good monitor with a lot of real estate for programming.
The productivity gains are unmatched for large panel (>39") 4K vs. smaller panels. Even on my el-cheapo 4K TV-as-monitor, the ability to see 200 lines of code at once is an advantage that far outweighs this particular panel's disadvantages compared to my former monitor.

Things to be aware of when selecting a 4K TV/monitor (in my experience):

  • Bigger may be better. 40" sounds huge until you need to bend forward to peer closer at certain things on the screen. For me, 44" actual screen size would be ideal (.25mm dot pitch), but the closest available size to that, or larger, is 48" (47.5"), so plan your desk setup accordingly.

  • Viewing angle is critical. VA panel blacks are great, but the fade-off on angled views means apps open on the far left or right require craning my neck over to see them better. IPS panels wide viewing angles are better in this regard.

  • Backlight control is important. Nothing makes my eyes tired faster than an overly bright monitor. However some people are sensitive to PWM-control backlighting, so your choices of TV-as-monitor may be limited if you are one of those individuals.

  • Latency is important. Not as important as for games, but important enough for precision mouse control. High latency means lining up your mouse to select text becomes more problematic because of lag in the eye-hand feedback loop.

  • 4:4:4 color capability is essential. Text looks like crap with lower color rendering. If you can tolerate 30Hz refresh (adds to mouse lag, but most people don't otherwise find the slower refresh a problem for desktop work), there are more choices available for 4:4:4 color TV/monitors.
