Fallout 4

Loving this so far. No bugs except a weird texture here and there. 4K/980ti's. I'm going to waste many hours on this...
Love the gift from the BoS.

I don't know what it is, but this felt similar to Skyrim to me, as in the world felt lifeless. I know the point of Fallout is to have a dead environment, but damn I just had no motivation to go out and explore. Alot of the quests seemed to be "Go here, kill ghouls" or "Go here and find artifacts/documents", with the worst being those stupid "Go here, kill raiders and establish an outpost". Main quest was OK, but the ending was about as "meh" as it can get. Maybe I was just too excited for this and ultimately disappointed, I enjoyed FONV and FO3 more.

I just tried the pip boy smartphone app - and I have to say that is the slickest phone integration app for a game I have ever seen - I think we will see this become more common place in the future. And with the phone showing the app sitting on my G910 its just awesome to see my pip-boy on top of the keyboard.

That's about it for me. I don't hate the game, but it lacks quite a bit of character and depth.

As far as the story goes, in comparison to previous FO games, it is a bit soulless and hopeless. There was more emotional energy and excitement In previous games.

Do raiders and things spawn out o fthin air?

Multiple times now I've came across a bag or something I Find and as soon as I open it suddenly I have raiders behind me that were not there before.

The super mutants are big. The armor may be for companions. I encountered a legendary yesterday in my normal playthrough. Switched it to hard. Met a few more. You always get awesome shit from them.

Ok, I fixed my stuttering issue finally.

If you are playing and getting decent framerates (IE 45+ average) but you still keep getting a "stutter" like effect when you move around in some areas I highly suggest you try this:

https://www.reddit.com/r/fo4/comments/3s6ile/disable_vsync_for_zero_input_lag_and_limit_fps/

Also make sure you set the fallout4pref ini to "read only" , otherwise it will revert back if you change any other options through the fallout 4 launcher.

Using this method I do not have a stutter anymore, vsync is off and also I set it to off my nvidia control panel. Also running in borderless window which (IIRC) stops screen tearing if you have sync off (I don't get any screen tearing with it so eh).

So summary:
Unlock vsync via the ini tweak and set to read only
Use MSI afterburner and Rivatuner to limit fps to 60 (anything higher messes up the speed of the game)
Make sure vsync is off in nvidia control panel
Run in borderless windowed

It's not really BS, is the point.

It's either BS or idiocy, because as proven it doesn't do anything except annoy legit customers.

Finally got my Collector's Edition. Pip-boy seems intact, pretty cool...Not quite as sturdy as I would have liked but it's not a huge deal.

Only got to play a bit but graphically it seems fine...texture quality isn't great but the overall design and style seems to make up for it in a lot of places. Would be nice if they released an official HD texture pack like with Skyrim.

27 hours in, no crashes, using latest nVidia driver, Only experienced the issue where my weapon disappeared on me twice. Hasn't happened again since I posted last.

Met first major boss today. It wasn't pleasant as I died a good dozen times. Finally got the bastard by flamer, minigun and rocket launcher. Decent rewards, too.

Everything about this game is terrible for someone with OCD. I started over again and now I can't decide whether I even want to use a last name for my character.

The settlement UI could use a Sim-builder type of overhaul, like SimCity etc. Maybe a topdown view where you click-and-drag. Running around on foot and clicking settlers, placing things, etc, is really tedious. You can definitely see where the game has been console-ified.

i didnt, i chose Lucy, some of them say "hello miss lucy" to me, pretty cool! :D

I'm playing on 4k with overclocked 980Ti. And everything set to max. The game is fluid for most of the time, but sometimes drops FPS and becomes sluggish.
Then I saw this https://images.nvidia.com/geforce-c...-interactive-comparison-003-ultra-vs-low.html
Turned god rays to low, works like a charm now, got 25 more fps :)

This game is rather buggy though.
Not that I've had the usual bugs. Only one crash in 6 hours of play and never got stuck in a terminal. No game breaking bugs, except once when my quick save got corrupted and I had to reload autosave. Hope it doesn't happen again :x

theres killable children and enhanced blood textures already at the nexus, its good to see how they know to prioritize things over there :D

Was using the Pip Boy app on the iPad, was really cool to change clothes and weapons on the app and it changes instantly in the game.
I was using to monitor my item weight limit as well,

HAHAHA!

I recently bought a Thrustmaster warthog hotas. (it's got enough metal to bludgeon someone to death and it would still be intact and functional)

Had to DOWNLOAD unprovided drivers :(

You ok bro?

Meanwhile the old people here, which I am one, sometimes bought USRobotics Win Modems that only had drivers ON THE INTERNET

I read somewhere that its best to set max fps to 58.
This is so there are no fps spikes above 60fps which can break physics.

So this game is broken for those of us who want to play at 144 FPS on our 144Hz monitors? If they couldn't fix the high FPS physics anomalies that ruined Skyrim, a game from four years ago, I won't bother buying it. Ridiculous.

Interesting. I'm on an old Sabertooth X58 board, legacy BIOS, and my GTX 970 was plug 'n play. Glad I didn't have any issues, because I was completely unaware of this issue.

same here, I'm on an original Asus board from when X58s just came out and I've never messed with the bios either and my 980s just worked fine.

I had to explicitly add the FO4 executable to ALLOW both INBOUND and OUTBOUND connections in the Windows firewall before the Pipboy app (Android) would work. Note that this requires 2 rules to be created, one for inbound, one for outbound.

can you see if it still works if you turn off the firewall?

EDIT:
OK. how dumb

even if the firewall is off...I needed to add the rules. it also tricks you because it adds 2 fallout4 rules when you install the game for you but they are for the LAUNCHER.

From what I have read, it uses the default vsync refresh rate of the monitor to sync internal physics unless overriden.
So it will work on higher refresh displays, but not if you only turn off vsync without capping the framerate. Lower is better, higher breaks the game.
There are some issues with mouse lag and stuttering, some of the fixes for these are not as compatible with higher refresh, but you should be able to sort it with a little trial/error.

Finally got a chance to play a bit of this, and I must say, I'm loving it so far. It looks and feels so much better than Fallout 3 or Skyrim.

Yes, the graphics aren't on-par with more modern games, but given the scope and size, the graphics are just fine, and haven't bothered me one bit so far.

Consoles or not, first person mode to construct is stupid.
Look at Farcry 4s Map editior, Bethesda should have learned a few things from UBI on this one. Any camera angle you want, any item you want, any placement too.

You beat the game already?

I will say that the clearing missions are tedious, my biggest issue is trying to locate the enemy that shots at me an throws grenades at me that are not in my LOS, or clearly visible.

Cons:
The AI overall is terrible.
The gfx are okay but its nothing ground breaking for 2012.
The in game Pip Boy UI is not very good
The voice acting is terrible.
The animations are bad (better than FO3 and new Vegas but that's not saying much).

Pros:
The PiP Boy App is really good
The gun play is very good for a FO game
The physics only breaks occasionally.
The game itself is fun and seems to have quite a bit of depth.
The mods for this game are going to be great.

Overall 8/10, glad I didn't pay full price, but I probably would have and still not have been disappointed.

Its a Bethesda game and the fact that they still support open mods, and decent DLC, will make up for most of the game issues.

You say that like if it were PC-only, the possibilities of what they could have accomplished are endless. It's highly unlikely that the games release being reduced to the least profitable platform would equal a more elaborate game. It's because of the consoles that the game gets the budget it does. Without them, their may not have been enough money to create a crafting system at all.

Not trying to be a console white-knight or anything, but I think when it comes to games making sacrifices for lesser platforms people often forget the massive amounts of money those platforms bring in. Like it or not, your game is probably better off by catering to them.

So what. Why must Minecraft be grafted into every AAA game. They should have put some money into writing.

Here's to hoping that they convince Obsidian to do a version.

There was a joke at F3 release, that Bethesda kept denying, that it would be Oblivion with guns. F4 is Skyrim with guns.

I have my suspicions that the delay for the modding tools is partially because they're working on hashing out how to implement paid mods again. The idea failed with Skyrim so much because it interfered with a long-standing, well-established community. Fallout 4 is fresh, and you can bet they're going to try it again.

Unfortunately, I think the days of free, unlimited mods are behind us. Sure, there will still be free mods, but nothing on the scale of what we're used to.

Do you have to use the builder or modding stuff at all in the game if you don't want to?

I actually REALLY dislike crafting...hate it so much and I don't really care to sit around and play FPS version of shelter.

I dont disagree with you. I'd be just fine without crafting. All I was saying is its silly to blame the consoles for holding the game back when its the consoles that allow games like this to get the massive budgets they do.

not entirely sure? I have a 144hz asus and haven't had any issues that i know of. i've ran it with 120hz lightboost hack and without it, no issues for me.

maybe i'm missing something?

They're not mandatory aside from the tutorial portions, but I don't think you can get the most powerful equipment if you don't use these features.

I think if you keep the in-game Vsync turned on that it can successfully sync the game physics to the framerate is what is being said. I'm guessing that this is why there is such a relatively large performance hit with it turned on.

I am not that far into the main quest but thus far it hasn't been mandatory. There is a secondary quest line (sorta like guilds from a tes game) that you pick up at the very beginning of the game, and should you choose to pursue it, it forces you to do some crafting. I don't know what relivance that quest line ends up having later in the game, so I dont know if you'd be hindered at all by skipping it.
