Star Citizen - media blowout, Chris Robert's new game

I happened to hop in my cutlass, and noticed that the seat stack moves centerline after powering up... I wonder how the PU will deal with a gunner wanting to hop in after the pilot is already in? In my mind Pilot = rear, Gunner = front, but I expect that you will be able to sit in whichever seat you prefer.

And there have been some performance improvements since the first ArcCorp release, at least for me it's running much better, despite the flaming GreyCat's all over the place.

Which is why im pissed, the cat is one of the oldest ships and they've hardly touched it. But some new ships they just push through the dev process.

They make money selling new concept ships, not actually finishing old ship designs.

that really has nothing to do with the order the ships get completed in brought into the game.

Its more about its size and role rather than how old or new the design is.

The saber would likely be in AC before the Cat is hangar ready just based on the ships roles lol

They're using resources to develop newer ships rather than using those resources to finish ships they sold years ago and get them out. They sold the ship with a concept design two years ago, it does not take two years to model these ships and make a few animations unless there is serious project mismanagement.

Ships are prioritize as needed, right now the priority is for Squadron 42 ships and the Herald and the Starfarer (for the mining facility) have been mentioned would be in Sq42. Same with the Saber which was mentioned was created to feel a need, thus was fast tracked and going back further the Gladius which replaced the Avenger in the narrative of Squadron 42 and was featured in the Morrow tour.

like i said, its about the ships role, Finishing the CAT now does not do them any good if there is no trading or mining or SAR role for it to actually do anything.

They finish the ships on an as need basis, not randomly or in the order they came up with them.

Which is the smart thing to do.

Why would you build out a CAT when the only place to use it is Arena commander? it would just get shredded and people complain its useless.

It totally makes sense to finish the smaller ships first that have a use in such an environment.

The herald is a sensor / communications dynamo so it being so far along likely means they have plans to really nail down that aspect of gameplay or its needed for SQ42

Did SC really show a "sneak peak" in AtV that included year old pre-rendered footage from the Imagine trailer?

Still doesnt explain why they would show year old stuff when theyre supposed to be hyping 2.0

"This was an old previs/lookdev created in December 2014. Parts of it were used in the CIG version of the Imagine trailer. We just thought you'd like to see the full, uncut version. =)

Remember, as this is previs/lookdev, it's an exploration of ideas and concepts, and is in no way guaranteed to be representative of what you'd see in the finished game."

lol....

Sneak peak has always been random stuff, i mean some times it is just a drawing of concept art of a characters uniform, something you would see on the wall of a billboard in the office of various designs.

They don't really need to hype 2.0.

This weeks sneak peak was actually one of the better ones even if it was old, it was 90% never seen.

So year old shit that you've seen before = sneak peek. Gotcha. Thanks for the Intel.

I do wonder how easily those multi-crew UI will be controlled. Any word if it's going to be in the cutlass in 2.0 as well?

Also, Wildace, mind not quoting those posts? Last thing I like seeing is shit posts (not saying your posts are the shit posts).

yeah i accidently removed him from ignore to see what he said in a fallout thread, but that was a mistake that i corrected and re added him lol

Yea, once a person gets on my ignore list for these forums, they don't get removed.

This assumes that the concept artists and the people doing the final build-out of ships are the same people. Big projects like these operate on a pipeline.

Now if you want to argue that they should stop shoveling work into the pipeline, I might be more receptive to that.

I know they HAVE printed several of the concept shots but they only print enough to give away at the gaming/citizen events. I've asked concierge in the past if they had any plans on giving away or even sell any leftovers and the answer I got was that they are planning on having these posters on the store at some point in the future but the main issue is the shipping.

I guess the next best thing one can do is take matters into your own hands like others have done and grab the highest resolution shots you can find and have them sent to a professional printer to posterize them.

This guy printed it at his job (8 foot poster of Goss): http://imgur.com/gallery/aHgK2

This one his art teacher let him print it at school (24in x 30 in Constellation variants poster: http://i.imgur.com/hyZmgk1.jpg

Here are some high dpi source images I found:

Constellation variant poster: https://docs.google.com/uc?export=download&id=0B9qDAcyRpF2HWkExb1hzaHBXUUU
Gladiator: https://docs.google.com/uc?export=download&id=0B9qDAcyRpF2HUnFBTzVrcjdmUWs
Retaliator: https://docs.google.com/uc?export=download&id=0B9qDAcyRpF2HUTgxRjZZUEsxVFE

P.S: Don't know if you already know this little trick but you can get relatively high rez versions of the images posted on the monthly reports.

This is the very first image posted on the latest monthly report:

Now if you change "post_section_header" to "source" in the url of the image you will get the full size uncropped original source which are usually at least 3k by 2k resolution.

Have fun :D

In the "pirates" picture, I think its rather neat that they're projecting an outward-facing custom holo projection from the helmet/visor. We can see the MobiGlass on the pirate's wrist, and there has always been plenty of discussion of all the ways that it can be upgraded, hook into HUDs, grant additional features and the like. To think that you can, with the proper hardware (ie helm/visor capable of outward projection in addition to HUD) and software, customize and/or anonymize your appearance a la the skull is a great idea. I hope that CIG considers allowing user-created "UI mods" of sorts for at least some of these functions, in some capacity.

Oh yes, glad that someone posted the Concierge VIP Black Card. Especially for those Concierge members who are new to the fold or otherwise missed the customized CitizenCards, its nice they're offering these. $10 seems very reasonable, especially given included shipping and likely similar metal quality and heft to previous Citizen Cards at High Admiral or better.. I know I'll be adding one to my collection. Enjoy them!

lol, yup, I would say probably everyone that decided to get one bought two at least, one to keep pristine and one to get messed up. That's not including the resellers,

The only good thing about people buying extra VIP cards is according to a forum post, Sandi said that you will still need to RSVP on the website to attend the "events" and only those who bought a card legitimately can attend. So that at least helps on that perk... Not that I live anywhere close to where these events would take place and one good event was good enough for me tbh. I could have bought an Idris instead of doing the last one haha... Honestly if they would make the events close to something interesting or fun (like Vegas) or a odd place I've never been I would be more interested.

*This is of course second hand info so who really knows lol...

I haven't kept up with the card perk details but when they first talked about them they said the card also counts like a pass to get a tour of any of the CIG offices of your choosing (anytime, anywhere, you either simply show up or make an appointment and go from there). Don't know if that is still true but I bet many people would love to have the chance to do so and is probably a good reason there are people reselling them.

Until I see a working game I will not contribute any further funds. As it stands now, I am a hair-widths close to requesting a refund for the $140 I've already spent in support of Star Citizen yet haven't seen any real tangible benefit from doing so.

You can go play Arena Commander right now.....

Arena commander is terrible, I'd rather play Freelancer.

Just request a refund and buy the game when (if) it comes out. You aren't going to get $140 worth of enjoyment out of the game and that money would be better spent on a steam sale.

Interesting, they've been kicking around internally the idea of making the Cutlass a more leaner (read less cargo capacity) ship in order for it to fulfill the piracy interceptor role.
The issue seems to be the way the game handles thrusters (read realistically wrt center of mass) which currently limits its relative agility.

Ben Lesnick said:
While I'm here, let me ask you guys a theoretical question: how would you feel about replacing the Cutlass? That is: how mated are you to the current look of the ship? One thing John points out in his piece (... as best I can understand, anyway...) is that there are certain significant limitations to how we can place thrusters on the current design. So if everybody had the choice between the Cutlass commerce raider and, say, the Buccaneer interceptor that's more maneuverable but has a smaller cargo hold, would that be a reasonable compromise? It's something we've talked about internally, and so I'd be interested to hear the thoughts of the megathread. (Please don't consider that a promise of a new ship... it's something we're thinking about, but will need to decide and commit resources to first.)

One thing I write about in my bit is the original inspirations for the Cutlass, which may or may not explain why I'm looking at it differently than some folks. And that's entirely inside my head, behind closed doors, so I wouldn't expect anyone to know... but hopefully it explains a bit? The biggest inspiration for creating the Cutlass was the Galaxy transport in Privateer, specifically because of the emergent gameplay that happened. Anyone who wanted to be a pirate skipped the Centurion bounty hunter ship that was all around best at everything else and instead went with a Galaxy that had the extra placement for tractor beams and a larger cargo hold for loot. So the Cutlass started life as 'what if we build to that gameplay'...

And for reference here are the Centurion and Galaxy from Privateer

Oh and if people weren't aware, a deep dive into the Cutlass is coming up soon:

Seems like a good idea, The cutlass is one of those ships that didn't quite live up to the original concept. Why some people seem to be losing their shit over it is beyond me. I don't care for the current ship, it's bit to utilitarian for me, personally I liked the original concept art but it was much slimmer and hence wouldn't be able to carry more cargo. It's just the reality of of the situation, if they split the ships maybe we could get a slimmer and more mean looking maneuverable ship than what they currently have and then keep the utilitarian version of the cutlass for the super cheap rugged jack of all trades.

I can't say I care that much though, concept is concept I figured much could change from the original. there is so much variety out there now it just doesn't matter to me. If we were dealing with just 5 or so ships in this ships price range then perhaps I would be worried. More ships is better though so argg... lol

At this moment I don't have all the facts to make an opinion on the matter. I'm just gonna wait on the deep dive to be posted to digest it all.

This is personally the stuff I like the most about the open development way of doing things. Normally we would never even see this and we'd just have the end product shown to us when it's done. Here we get to see the entire process laid out and more importantly the devs are taking our feedback into consideration to guide their decision.

Only the first few have been reveled up to 10 referrals, the other levels are still secret. Lando did say the levels are in place and can be triggered, but no idea if the rewards are (levels are something like 1,3,5,10,20,42,100 or something like that).

Yeah, I agree. It's good to see it. I tried reading through some of it but some of the people just go overboard so I tend to just stop while i'm ahead :)
