Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege

A lot of my friends are having issues getting into this game at all and even then the gameplay is meh.

People should check out Squad. I am hearing great things about it. Comms are excellent and the teamwork is top notch. Still alpha and you have to buy the game to get in. It is a very hardcore shooter so be advised. If you are a fan of something bw CS and BF2 with awesome gun sounds...

been doing solo T hunt. its very meh
bullet penetration is fun, but gimmicky. only specific walls can be damaged. other than that, ballistics are crap.

Played it for a bit. Overall, I think the game is very generic and rather dull. Imagine CS GO and Pay Day 2 being merged into one game, and you have R6 Siege. There really isn't a single element of R6 in it. I know it is a beta, but these are my impressions:

- Match making sucks. It puts me in groups with high pings and when the host leaves you're screwed.

- Graphics are washed out even on the highest settings.

- I've seen shoe boxes bigger than the maps in this game.

- Enemy AI is dumb. Enemy unit types (and I suppose player classes) are cliche and copy/pasted from every other generic shooter. You have the guys who run around with ballistic shields (lol), the suicide bombers, ect. Think Far Cry, Watch Dogs, Assassins Creed and Pay Day.

- Character design took a page out of TF2's playbook and look cartoonish and exaggerated. Women in tight jeans, men with arms thicker than tree trunks, and other laughable tropes. They didn't put any effort in making the characters look authentic, but that probably wasn't their goal.

- Weapon mechanics suck. They flop like fishes out of water, recoil a lot and are pretty weak. When my character has a 2 foot thick arm you'd think they'd be able to control a weapon.

- Even with the "realistic" setting and disabling all of the optional HUD junk, the game still has too much fluff on screen. Its hard to tell what is going on with all the colors, outlines and whatnot.

- Lots of unlocks. Essentially every aspect of the game is unlock bound, down to weapon attachments. Probably to mask the uninspired core gameplay.

- Lots of gimmicky gadgets that aren't fun to use. Challenging AI, shooting skills and planning are replaced with lots of gadgets and a swarming number of dumb enemies to make up for it.

- Hold to make yourself bleed out slower. Why does this even exist?

- Class system sucks. Just makes it a pain to choose the right equipment in a timely fashion.

- We're Rainbow 6, yet we play as GIGN, FBI and whatnot. What the hell?

- Must unplug HOTAS to take control of player.

- Damage system is terrible. Loose health, and your vision desaturates. And then the whole silly revive mechanic.

I'll just stop here. Pretty dull and uninspired game all around. Clearly they saw the success of CS GO and Payday 2 and just cobbled the two together. Sad thing is, I think it will sell well.

Agreed on all points. Generally speaking R6 Siege is terrible, probably the worst R6 to date.
Tom would be ashamed. Typical ubisoft

Lol, nice breakdown. I enjoyed the two matches I played. I have not tried out the AI coop thing yet.

The 5v5 system is awkward when matching up yes.

I was thinking more along the lines of COD meets BF but slower....if you know what i mean. Well, you probably do since you've played it.

I also get 600 something FPS in SLI.....with 1 card barely being used.

I haven't read any of the books but in the games team rainbow has always been a collection of the most elite operators from around the world called upon to do special missions. Them donning gear they are most familiar with doesn't seem that out of place.

Tom would be ashamed.

Clancy actually said he didn't care about video games. It was described as a slap in the face if I recall. He was only involved in R6 and bad almost nothing to do with any sequels, GR or Splinter Cell.

The 5v5 system is awkward when matching up yes.

Surely they can allow the host to leave after the game has started... Homeworld 2 is like that. And we need a server browser regardless.

They were recruited from various units/countries, but didn't wear their uniforms from their previous units. That would be like an ex-Marine wearing his military uniform as a police officer state side. It just doesn't make sense. Also, the R6 guys didn't have identification. No arm patches stating who they were. It was a discreet unit. This is not too much of a concern in the grand scheme of things, but it just highlights their lack of care. Or that they're blatantly ripping off CS which pits a bunch of random SF forces together (pre-GO). :D

I've only bothered with terrorist hunt and I will say it's much better then vegas (which felt more like a horde mode with the worst spawning system ever) but this is still miles away from a proper rainbow six game.

I imagine single player was simply dropped due to the losses incurred developing the canceled Patriots game (which looked horrible). I can understand how they wouldn't want to keep pumping money into the series after that failure but to keep the price at $60 (it's $90 on the uplay store lol) for half a game is total bullshit.

Another thing i can't understand is why they have to fill the game full of so many arcadey unrealistic elements. I imagine if they just attempted to make a more authentic rainbow six game it would set it self apart and stand out way more from other modern shooters.

Played some more. Realized there was no magazine system, which is rather lame especially considering the game is round based.

I think the whole unlock and progress system is rather terrible. You have to exit to the main menu to apply your "Renown" (XP points), and it is broken down into a bunch of unnecessary sub-categories. You have to unlock characters, each of which is team specific, only to find out there is only one per team. Each character is limited in the equipment they can use, so if someone clicks first you're screwed. Then you have to unlock each individual accessory. For every weapon. Enjoy unlocking that Eotech 20 or whatever times.

There are stripped down "generic" characters you can use, and I believe weapon accessories carry over. Other equipment won't. Weapon attachment properties themselves were thoughtlessly copied from BF4 and it shows.

It is just very awkward, grindy and makes team selection a pain. You spend almost as much time in menus as you do in actual gameplay. Overall this feels more on par with CS or Payday than it does a full fledged $60 title.

It either sounds like some of you have never played a R6 game, or the game is really that bad. I guess I will have to see.

This was sort of my impression. I wouldn't say it's a bad game, but there's no way it's a $60 title. If they released it for $20-$30 like the other games you mentioned, I could see this developing a strong multiplayer community. At $60, you'll get a lot less people coming in, especially during a very crowded holiday, and even more so for releasing later than it's multiplayer-centric competitors (COD and Battlefront).

If this had a (proper) single player Rainbow Six experience, I would be all over it. But for a game that relies on a strong community to be playable, it's a waste of money. I'll probably pick it up when it gets to a sub-$10 price tag in a Steam sale, ride the surge that comes along with it, and then move along after investing a few hours.

My vote still goes to Insurgency. Nothing has come close to recreating the value of teamwork and semi-realism that is still fun as Insurgency has. In my opinion.

Exactly where I'm at.

I also agree with the people who mentioned how they could have had their cake and eat it, too: I liked Vegas for what it was. Have that series, have the "Raven Shield/Rogue Spear" style series and then if you want to throw something like this in the mix, too, great.

It either sounds like some of you have never played a R6 game, or the game is really that bad. I guess I will have to see.

I've played every RB6 game made and Siege is just...Not good. As a non-RB6 game it could be alright, but as an RB6 title it's awful.

I'd say as a non-R6 game it isn't that good, mainly because the unlock system is clunky. IMO it is counter productive for teamwork.

I need to try this game out.

You guys are making me realize that the game I had hoped for, Rogue Spear 2 (hehe), will never exist..

If anyone has a Beta/Alpha/Shit key they want to send.... I'd like to witness this dump of a game for myself.

Insurgency is fun but I wouldn't say it's much like RB6. It's more like Project Reality but even lighter in terms of realism, from what I played.

I think the beta is over... or at least this phase. Not sure if they are doing any further phases.

Speaking of which...uPlay is retarded. The beta shows as "expired" for me, but there is no way to uninstall the game. I just had to physically remove the files from the game folder, desktop, etc...annoying.

I did all that and it's still in my Uninstall Programs list. Sigh.

That chance died when RSE was bought by Ubisoft. Now the series is just a name. I'm surprised Ubisoft hasn't made Splinter Cell into an open-world parkour adventure.

It was hilarious when the guy lets that slip, and you see Joe's face like "WTF is that shit?" and then the guy tries to backpedal as fast as possible.

Ubisoft has outlined its post-launch plans for Rainbow Six Siege, due December 1st on PS4, Xbox One and PC...over the course of the game's first year out the developer will release four new maps (playable on both online multiplayer and Terrorist Hunt), eight new operators, and a plethora of new cosmetic items, game modes, events and more

Maps and modes will be free and unlocked immediately for everyone. Operators and weapons, however, will be unlocked through earned currency called Renown or R6 Credits, a type of currency that can be purchased with real world money

The only content that will be exclusively unlocked via real-world micro-transactions will be rare premium weapon skins. These are cosmetic only and will not affect gameplay balance in any way...

You can thank Vegas 1 introducing the modern day "innovative" multiplayer unlocking grind even before cod.

Why does this crap still even exist, especially in a rainbow six game. It's become a staple in almost every multiplayer game. The tedium has become so great that players are willing to pay to bypass the bullshit.
It has become quite obvious that the grind adds nothing to the gameplay at all, it shouldn't exist in fullpriced retail games anymore and the only purpose it serves is to sell microtransactions.

That's true although the Vegas games are masterpieces in contrast to what this is looking like.

I'd take a "Vegas 3" right now any day of the week over this. This thing is hopeless. I hope it absolutely craters on sales.

Funny thing is that the gameplay looks better than most games these days yet still lags behind the real R6 games.

Battlefield 2 had unlocks before that and you could buy unlocks in a pseudo way via the Special Forces expansion (doubles your unlocks).

...haha glad someone noticed. Scenario, i ran by the doorway, dood shoots at me as i pass by. Death cam shows im out of his fov before he shoots and I said something in game like, ' i love rounding the the corner and bullets follow me'... And he replies. 'Corners are bullet proo?f'. ..although no bullets peirced the corner wall On killcam.

That's netcode though. The real (old school) Rainbow Six gameplay of planning, planning, planning, planning, and more planning, followed by deviations in real-time execution and squad coordination would be nice in a modern MFPS... but we sure are dreaming to think that would become priority. I mean look at what happened to Ghost Recon Phantoms.

Those games are dead from the big developers. While not exceptionally realistic and the co-op mode is pretty poor, not planning phase or SP portion, I've been having fun with Insurgency as of late. A nice MP game to play every now and then.

Although I am glad Ubisoft decided we needed.. shark camo guns? What the hell?

You base a game off of micro transactions that do not have any benefits? Lmao....please......stop. It seems majority of online multiplayer games have micro transactions in which some are beneficial. With that in mind, you must think all of those games are garbage as well?

If they're P2W...then yeah, I do.

This isn't technically P2W but it's basically pay-to-not grind forever for unlocks.

I feel the same way about Battlefield.

And there are a lot of other reasons this game is garbage, the microtransactions are just a cherry on the shit cake.

After the first few days, being able to pay for unlocks doesnt mean shit. You'll be playing against plenty of people who earned them normally in short order. Who really cares if your also playing against people who paid to unlock them? The only "advantage" is that this lets new players with money to waste level the playing field.

Agree'd. I never cared in the recent BF series if players paid for unlocks. Their money to waste, R6 money to gain.

Personally, I am looking forward to the game. A nice change of pace and team tactics.
