I'm late to the DayZ party and finally installed / played the game yesterday for the 1st time ever despite ignoring several warnings in regards to how brutal / terrible the community of bandits are / can be.

I installed the game on my PC:

- AMD 8350 Black @4.0 Ghz
- 32 GB of RAM
- Gigabyte Radeon R9 280X 3 GB
- x2 Intel 120 GiB SSD's in RAID0

And can't tell if the game is bringing my hardware to it's knees or if the game is just currently this way. It just runs like the server is physically in Russia. Looking around has noticeable lag or latency / nothing feels sharp or snappy not to mention I've walked around for 45 minutes to pass out from not finding a damn thing. Is it common to have severs with literally no survival gear or especially food? I just sorted the servers via PING and picked one that had a few people in it (~6).

Is it me or my hardware or do I expect too much from a pre-release indie game?

The zombies in the game are completely broken and ruined it for me... I played for a month, like 8 months ago. Zombies going through walls glitch info like crazy, invisible zombies, and the best was the zombies that can hit you and do damage to you that are 15 feet away. AND the melee system was USELESS. Your crosshair had to be directly on the zombie to inflict damage with a swing which was ridiculous, plus they lag like crazy. Totally ruined it for me.

And yeah I had at least 3 fully geared characters who were all shot in the back by a bandit I never even saw.

I would love to play a game like day z that actually works. Might give h1z1 a try. Would go back to day z later once they fix more shit.

As for running the game, it ran semi decently for me. Specs in sig below. I had everything on high, maybe a few settings on medium. 720p or so. Got 30-60fps probably most of the time, dropped lower in the big cities though.

Just do yourself a favor and uninstall it. A lot of issues exist, and it seems like development has nearly stopped on the game. I've tried it several times, each time uninstalling and wishing I hadn't plopped down that initial pre-alpha access fee.

@ Converge I believe I read h1z1 was just as bad. I have read that ARK is designed to not reward this type of gameplay.

DayZ gameplay 2 years ago was fun PvP survival with zombies in the mix. DayZ gameplay today is WWZ style zombies with snipers positioned on the tallest building of every town and your character constantly suffering from ebola with every wound. It's completely retarded.

Created/posted this 21 months ago when people were STILL defending Rocket and BI. Now rocket is gone from BI and DayZ altogether, not even the bugs have been fixed (much less any significant changes in features/gameplay), and the ETA for "release" is nowhere in sight. What a joke.

My advice is make use of Steams refund policy. Hopefully you have n't played it for more than 2 hours. If you read the user reviews at Steam you would have seen this game is shit and not advised to buy. I highly doubt this game will ever be out of alpha and IMO it is just a greedy money grab shit mod.

it is a bucket of fail smeared in shit sauce

return it

You're much better off playing any of the Arma 2 or 3 survival mods, than $30 for this piece of shit.

I returned the game vowed to NEVER get another early access game on Steam again. It was amazing how total shit that game was. Total total diarrhea!

Every single game/mod that has been made, or will be made on the Arma engine will NEVER make it past an alpha state of readiness/performance.

I have Arma3 in my Steam library. Never installed it but looks decent. What's the deal w/ Arma3? Since all mods made of this engine are complete total dog shit IMO, should I avoid installing Arma3? I've actually read decent things about Arma.

Breaking Point is a fantastic, fleshed out mod for Arma 3. Feels much more stable than DayZ SA (as stable as the engine can allow, anyways)

The original arma2 mod was a lot of fun.
When the standalone came out, things started going down hill quickly.

I played A LOT of the mod version. Standalone was so laggy and just broken when it came out. I went a long time not playing and finally a few weeks ago loaded it up in the hopes that something would have been better...

Nope, still laggy and broken.

I think the arma2 mod version is still going with updates now and again from some people, I would suggest that over the standalone.

ArmA 3 engine has its quirks, but it's still a lot better than the ArmA 2 engine. I have had very few issues with ArmA 3 and mods in general, and I play the game weekly (350+ hours logged on Steam I believe, and I used to run it outside of Steam so it's even higher than that)

DayZ is still based on the ArmA 2 engine so it's never really going to be at the level of ArmA 3.

Even though I think DX12 is going to remain a huge marketing-gimmick for a few years until it hits a stride and developers are actually targeting it and designing a game around it, rather than just bolting a couple DX12 features on to a DX11-targeted game to market it as "DX12", part of me hopes that Bohemia's promises of a DX12 patch for Arma3 will really relieve the CPU bottleneck that bogs down the engine and game. But I won't hold my breath since that CPU bottleneck is largely caused by AI, and secondarily DX12 won't fix server performance (or lack of).

Why would you buy ArmA3 and then not install it?

Here is some info on optimization. Here
Have over 450 videos of the game on youtube.
The game has quirks.
The game is a blast to play.
The new Experimental .59 just dropped and we are playing the shit outta it.
If you need help optimizing send me a message.

This game has gone nowhere. I get sub 20 FPS with the 4930k and a 980GTX. I was the biggest dayz supporter and played the mod very early in its life and love the genre. DayZ has just dropped the ball big time.

sheesh, I love this forum.. it saves me sooo much money... I was thinking about getting but thanks to you all... naaaaa I'll pass.

You might as well just get ArmA 3 and play one of the numerous and popular open-world mods:

-Epoch
-Wasteland
-Exile

You can't win a fight with zombies hardly ever. You walk around forever just to find out each house looks the same. The FPS are so bad you will put up with it for a bit then throw it to the side. Pile of crap

Love the game have 400+ hours. It's a love/hate game. The idea of it possibly working out and every one having a smooth experience is a great thing to look forward to. WIll it happen any time soon? Not sure but there's no doubt about it they are updating this and sticking to what they say(so far).

The game is the most immersive game I've ever played. Hunting down someone a click or two away or going into a town hearing gun shots all over is just as good as it gets. I do wish the FPS was higher as most people struggle near any big cities/action but my system runs it pretty good for the most part. 4790k @ 4.6ghz/16GB DDR3/290x but it does drop to the 20s more than I want it to.

I'm still a supporter, regardless of the bugs. It's an incredible game.

Game is total shit.

Have hundreds of hours in the mod. About 100 in standalone.

Move on; it'll never improve. The cash grab is over.

THIS GAME REQUIRES AT LEAST A 7GHZ i5 OR i7 PROCESSOR TO RUN WELL. If you don't have that don't play it. Seems 99% of people don't. SCREW YOU MOFOS PLAYING GAMES ON LIQUID NITROGEN

Seriously, this is one of the few games that dents my pride as a pc gamer.
