Hi Guys

It is with the greatest regret that I wish to say that My Best Friend and Supporter of my life has passed. My wife (Grandma) passed on Monday night November 2, 2015 from Cancer.

She was my greatest supporter when it came to my DC work. whenever I said I was going to buy something for DC the answer was always without hesitation go ahead. I am writing this to hopefully encourage other people to run DC projects in hopes of someday finding a cure or effective treatment for some of the terrible diseases out there.

Many have not seen the results of what some of these diseases can have on a persons life, such as Grandma was tethered to a 50' cord that was attached to an Oxygen machine for the last 5 years. We were fortunate in that we had the ability to acquire portable equipment which still allowed her to be mobile and get out of the house but many do not. This is just one example of how these disease can affect a persons life, there are many others that go along with it.

Even in her final hours of life Grandma still supported my DC work when I asked her if I should get a couple more GPU's to fold with she smiled at me and shook her head yes. Needless to say you are going to see my production go up soon.

Any of you who wonder if it is worth it or not I have just one question for you to ask yourself, if there is the sightsees possibility that you could keep one of your Grandchildren from having to suffer from one of these diseases would you do it. ?

I just wish to say to everybody DC with what you can and however much you can because in reality the reward does have the possibility of being great.

Fold on / DC on

Words fail me.

While it has been some time since I have been active on [H], I heard about this and did want to stop in and say my prayers are with you and your family. You had a major impact on developing my passion for servers, and I know that was likely due to Grandma's support.

I am so sorry to hear that Grandpa. I just want to echo the above, you are one of the major inspirations and driving forces of this team, and Grandma was the major inspiration to you. Truly the 'best of us'.

Grandpa,

Truly sorry to hear that the beast has claimed another.

John

I didn't really know either of you. But as one human being to another, my condolences on your loss.

I'm so sorry for your loss Grandpa. She sounds as if she were the light of your life and an absolutely amazing person. I'm so glad her quality of life was good at the end, and I'm sure you took amazing care of her. If you need anything, you know where to reach me.

I am so sorry to learn of your loss, Grandpa. You have my my deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences. Your wife sounds like a beautiful soul; may she Rest In Peace.

Grandpa, thank-you for sharing your sweetheart's story. She sounds like a very special person that had an infinite ability to give. My wife is on oxygen 24x7 too, so your story especially hit home with me. I too look at her some days, knowing that it is a serious condition and I thank God for every day that we still have together. I'm so sorry to hear that your wife has passed. Please accept my deepest sympathy along with my prayers that God will give you the strength to carry-on. Take care my friend and thank-you for the inspiration that you have given to many Folders/Crunchers over the years.

New member Here. Made an account so I could post, but have visited many times.
Although I am a member of another folding team,we all have a common goal. Our strive to help humanity by devoting our time and resources to find cures for these afflicting and debilitating diseases.

To Grandpa,
You and the support your loved one (Grandma) have inspired many people to help in this cause.
I know that now, these are just words posted from an unknown soul, but I have been where you are now.
The pain and grief will pass with time, and it helps to understand that that her soul is better off now. Without the pain and worries of life here on earth.
She no longer has to worry about how her affliction hurts you and other loved ones. Or how much happier you would be if she was not sick. It took me a while to understand that part of it.I hope it comes to you much sooner than it did for me.
If you need a stranger to talk to or support of any kind PM me a phone# to call. I will check back on a regular basis, although I probably will not post.

Rick

Grandpa, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. God bless.

Grandpa,

So extremely sorry to hear about the passing of your wife; you have my deepest sympathies. Know first hand there are no good words right now. All I can say is sorry and that I'm here with you. :-( I don't know what's after this life, but I sincerely hope that she is at peace, healthy and whole once more. Hopefully Damon is there too. He's a damn sweet boy to snuggle with.... hopefully Grandma enjoys that!

Sincerely,
Jason

Well... shit. Grandpa, my condolences on your loss, I am happy that she has continued to support you, she was one dedicated gal. She seems like she was a great wife to have around, and it's a shame such a good person succumbed in such a terrible way. Let's hope that the contributions of the DCers minimize the number who will go through the same ordeal.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Very sorry for your loss.

Thank you for sharing your story, thank you for all of your support and efforts to help all of our families find ways to prevent this from happening in the future.

Sounds like she was a hell of a woman Grandpa and the two of you had a great life together. I am sorry for your loss. Keep your head up.

Grandpa,

Deepest condolences on your loss, thoughts and prayers for you and your family at this most difficult of times.:(

My thoughts are with you.

Sorry for your loss.

Grandma was such a big supporter of DC'ing and killing the beast.

Grandpa, thank you for your contributions to the team, to DC'ing, and slaying the dragon.

You've shared much with me over the last few years, centered on our avid support of DC projects. I am now even more dedicated. Hope that makes you feel better. The words that come out now in this post just seem so trite. All I can say is that we are with you.

She's not hurting anymore. Her spirit and her strengths you will always carry with you!

Your friend,
Linden in Alaska

Thank you all for your responses, it warms my heart to see the love and caring that lives on in the DC community. I would like to wish the very best to all of you and I will always be grateful for your thoughtfulness your comments and your kind words.

Thank You
Grandpa

I have lurked for so long I forgot my name and password and had to look it up but after seeing your post and reading all your past posts you come across as a wonderful person, just want to say I'm very sorry for your loss.
I lost my dad to cancer when he was 67, it killed him in a month, before he got cancer we thought he would be around for many more years, I hope the work you're doing Grandpa_01 along with the rest of us will someday help other's be around longer for their loved one's or at least let them not have to suffer so bad in the end.

shit, here I was in the other post trying to figure out who grandma was and why she whooped my ass. I guess this is what I get for not being so active on the forums anymore. Prayers to you and yours, our thoughts go out to you. I don't do as much as I used to but I'll make sure to keep my cards on when I am able to in honor.

Sorry I'm late to reply, but you have my condolances.

I just saw this, so sorry for your loss! Sounds like a wonderful person & spouse!
