any owners of this monitors ? i need your opinion , as i can get only one of them , for gaming mostly and internet browsing/web design.

im gonna be playing GTA V, Metal Gear solid V , The witcher 3 and Batman arkham origins , also, star wars battlefront, and maybe other upcoming releases.

thanks in advance for your opinions.

Variable refresh is not that big of a deal at low fps (~40) since most games these days have triple buffering anyway with vsync on, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between variable refresh vs vsync at that framerate except that variable refresh will have more visible screen ripples (if we are talking about Freesync; G-sync might handle low fps better) and less input lag whereas vsync will look cleaner.

But the price certainly is too high. It's literally twice as expensive as its competitors at 32" 4K IPS scene.

That reminds me, I can't believe people paid $4k+ for 32" 4K monitors in 2013. That's the price people are paying for 65" 4K OLED TVs this year O_O

This is an old post, but as i am able to give some insight i decided to register, and leave my comments for future readers.

As of January 2016, i would NOT recommend ANY 21:9 monitor for gaming. I owned the u2913wm (now owned by my girlfriend), and the U3415Q (just sold a few days ago). Games are horribly optimized for the screen size! Everything becomes a quest for workarounds etc. to get the full resolution. If you cant find a good workaround, you are stuck with 1/3 of the screen as black bars on the sides.

Regarding game support:
GTA V - GREAT support!
Metal Gear solid V - Absolutely non functioning support! You will need to run this game in 16:9!
The witcher 3 - Great support.
Batman arkham origins - No idea.
Star wars battlefront - No idea.

I recently sold my monitors, and changed to the U3216Q. I will be able to give a comparison impression in a few days if anyone is interested and reads this thread.

For anyone reading this, the 21:9 is an absolutely gorgeous format! And it is GREAT for productivity. For games though, it's a few years in the future before i can recommend using this format.

I would do some research on the games you play at the Widescreen Gaming Forum to decide on whether or not you want to invest in an ultrawide screen. A lot of games do not natively support this aspect ratio, and will take some sort of workaround for it to work. The nice thing about a 34" ultrawide, though, is you can play pillarboxed at 2560x1440 and it will be the same as playing on a 27" 16:9 monitor. I don't own either monitor, but the U3415W gets high reviews from numerous sources. If the ASUS PG348Q wasn't coming out next month I would have been considering one of these, myself.

Part of the reason G-Sync is a hardware module is exactly so it handles variable refresh at low framerates. I can easily tell the difference between triple-buffered V-Sync and G-Sync when framerates dip under 40 on my PG278Q, but I generally run settings that won't let framerates drop that far. After using G-Sync I don't think I could ever go back to using a fixed refresh monitor.

To your last point: have you seen the Dell U3017Q yet? A 30" 4k OLED going on sale in March for $5k US.
